i am at a total loss this week on who to pick, i dont want to back Bryson again tho he is in mega form, Rose i never like choosing because he is too much of a rollercoaster, dustin seems a little too off for the price he is and Brooks the same as DJ, and i dont really like any of the others so i think im going to see how it stands after the cut and go from there. 1 short priced in a field is ok but 4 just dont seem right.
Report lewisham ranger January 30, 2019 11:29 PM GMT
have had one bet here, colsearts each way, though perhaps that reflects my lack of confidence in trying to pick the winner of this event.

rose and dechambeau both hugely impressive winners last weekend, but they were such big performances they may have left their mark. would be happy to swerve them this week.

with dj not in total top form out of the favourites I like brooks. but could see an upset.

typical round by Johnson, blowing the tournament apart.

be interesting to see the response by pieters. think he might struggle today, to get to johnsons lead.

Caddie JP Fitzgerald on the bag for VICTOR PEREZ for a while now, and getting the results (previously worked for Rory McIlroy in his 4 Majors, split in 2017). Fitzgerald and Perez were working just their fourth tournament together when Perez won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last September.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan January 31, 2020 3:17 PM GMT
Fitzgerald is no stranger to big cheques having worked with McIlroy for 20 of his Tour wins. With the Holywood star earning roughly $64 Million between the PGA Tour and the European Tour during their on-course relationship, Fitzgerald is estimated to have banked, with bonuses, in the region of €7 million.
Victor Perez, a now 27-year old towering talent from Biarritz was a winner on the Challenge Tour (Foshan Open). The Frenchman held his nerve to capture the Alfred Dunhill at the end of September, a victory that more than doubled his career earnings with a 1st prize cheque worth €732,265.40. His promise was undeniable when making the step up to the Main Tour and since linking up with JP, that potential has been brought to the fore. Whether he goes on to hit such a sizable jackpot alongside Perez may be a distant dream but a proven caddie has partnered with an excellent player and as things stand, the sky’s the limit for the latest tag team on Tour.

Perez earned over 2 million euros in the last 4 months, which is 80% of his total career earnings. A win this week would add another 0.5 million+ to that and could lift him as high as #28 in the OWGR.

16th last week
2nd Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
20th DP World Tour Championship.
2nd Turkish Airlines Open (6 man play-off Schwab, Kitayama, Hebert, Van Rooyen & HATTON winner).
4th WGC-HSBC Champions.

Gee MAC, you left some big guns in your wake.....Graeme McDowell won the Saudi International, his eleventh career European Tour title. It was the first European Tour victory for G-Mac in nearly six years, his previous being the 2014 French Open. McDowell’s short game spurred him to the win – he ranked 2nd in the field for the week in scrambling and 5th in strokes gained putting.

"I want my kids to see me out there. No more pulling up YouTube videos." - and as he tells his kids - “I always tell my kids we live in a nice house because daddy can putt,Devil that’s about the heart of it, really,” he said. “The putter’s been a little ice cold the last sort of two rounds but I got it heated back up on the back nine today and I’m going to have to putt well to have a chance tomorrow.”

Dustin Johnson finished runner-up in Saudi Arabia, his best result since last year’s PGA Championship. DJ was the only player in the field to shoot in the 60s all four rounds.
Phil Mickelson tied for third, his best finish worldwide since winning last year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Lefty had not finished better than 18th in any of his prior 22 starts around the globe. He will defend that Pebble Beach title this week – a tournament he has won five times in his career.

Great win for Gmac , fairly comfortable in the end because few of the worlds "top" players can play in the wind .  Most of those in contention backed out over the last 2 days , particularly as the wind blew harder in the afternoon both days .

Gmac putted sensationally , got out of jail on a few occasions , hit only 3 or 4 fairways in his final round , but challenges faded and he knows how to grind out a win .  Think he should invest in a big "wind machine" to be deployed at each Major , talk to those guys in the "Oceans" film series , they could figure out something .

Perez disappointed after a great start, maybe JP should bring him over to Ireland for a week or two in the "off season" for a beneficial trip around our top class "windy" links courses . Couldn't do him any harm .

Phil looked more in the groove this week , despite windy conditions not suiting his driving ability .  Apparently after arriving at  Royal Portrush (last years Open) , took one or two "looks " at the links and said "I can't win here " . Wind and rough . Missed the cut as I remember .
Report Catch Me ifyoucan February 4, 2020 4:32 PM GMT
PEREZ has been living in Dundee for nearly three years! (why in the fcuk would he want to come over to Ireland ffs).

There are a number of reasons why he lives there..... he says it's the 'Golf Culture' in Scotland, but really he's getting his ass (girlfriend, Abigail, dental student).

“The culture of golf in Scotland should make almost every golfer want to come here. It’s great because the people here live golf and have so much passion for the game. You see people going to gas stations with a golf bag. You never see that in France. Golf is my life and I felt I needed to be around a culture that would cherish that, rather than being in France. I felt to perform in golf it was better to come here. I practise at Ladybank, I also work at Panmure quite a bit. Andrew Crerar, the head pro, has been fantastic with me. And then I go to Drumoig to play a few rounds because it’s right across the bridge from me from Dundee. I also use the Academy at St Andrews because I think they have done a fantastic job redoing the whole chipping area.”
