What's going on here?  There seems to be new low quality events cropping up with no consistent schedule year on year.  Last week we had the Rocco Forte Sicillian Open (some years it doesn't take place), a few weeks ago Golf Sixes and this week the Belgian Knockout (brand new).  Sky keep telling us that the European Tour is in great shape but I am guessing this is pure hype.

All about the pound note, or the euro

Agreed. You don't see the PGA putting on tournaments with joke formats.  The European Tour is dire and poorly supported for all but about 8 weeks of the year.  The clear solution, given that golf is a properly global sport, is a Tennis-style worldwide governing body with a proper hierarchy of tournaments and a ranking points system that encourages a lot more international travel (not just the best non-US players to the US) and integration across traditional boundaries.

Will this happen? In the words of Butch Harmon...'you bet it won't'

I know sponsors are hard to find but surely this week is crying out for a UK event. Why not have the British Masters this week instead of the week before the 2nd major ?
Hard work either way for Tommy to attract a few stars but more chance the week after a major with a Friday start than the week before and a Sunday finish.Add to that a lot of the country have a four day holiday starting today ,it just seems to make more sense to me.It really is conference standard the euro Tour.
Wonder where Pell is holidaying this week ?

it wouldn't necessarily have to be a tournament in the UK but not to have a European tournament seems bizarre at this time of year

it certainly makes you wonder what's going on

Makes no sense at all, does it?  Like you say, long weekend, perfect to attract the fans, could even go Friday - Monday and get a bank holiday crowd, plus give an extra day off after Augusta in the hope of attracting a few names.  Missed opportunity for sure.
