Re the course set up, it would be useful to know if the Yanks plan to play it off the back tees. When they were used for the 2009 USPGA, only 9 players finished the week under par, and several holes have been lengthened even more since then. If that's the plan, then even par will win the foursomes and singles.

On the other hand, if they use the forward tees, most of the fairway bunkers and water hazards won't come into play and it turns into a pitch and putt contest. I've no idea which option would better suit the locals - or us come to that.

Clerkmore, Westwood has proven time and again he has the minerals for the Ryder Cup and he is a hugely popular and influential figure in the dressing room

That's why he would have been a good vice captain. He will be found wanting as a player as you will see.

Bubba hasn't qualified for two reasons firstly the US pick their team on a one year cycle but two years for the majors which have added weighting. Bubba has been poor in the majors and since he won early doors struggled in general.

Agree with a lot of clerkmores analysis although I disagree about JB Holmes - think he is a good pick, he wasunbeated in 2008 he is very long off the tee so could be good both in foursomes and fourballs. He also has two top 5s in majors.

Think Westwood will do a decent job he will be a good mentor out there in the pairs.

Matt Fitz is getting a bit of stick and whilst he is a bit green he has been impressive when winning down the stretch and did win the US Amateur which is matchplay.

Europe's success to me will come if the big players play well. Rory, Stenson, Garcia, Rose will almost certainly play all five matches If Europe have other players playing well and Clarke can stumble across the right partnerships then I think Europe have a great chance. The likes of Wood, Sullivan, Fitzpatrick can be used as often or not as Clarke sees fit in the foursomes and fourballs.

Think Knox was a massive mistake and any bare chance Europe had was with him playing in the form he is in currently. USA whitewash simples

Match Play between two teams of 12 Players Europe v USA with both the 1st and 2nd days a series of 4 foursome matches and a series of 4 four-ball matches and 12 singles matches on Sunday. That's 8+8+12=28 so 14½ wins it (14 retains it for Europe).

Anyone care to name names where these 14 points are going to come from...

i.e. OWGR #1 wee RORY Mc took away 3 points from Scotland 2014 with Win–Loss–Half record of 2–1–2.
Justin Rose was top-dog at4 with 3–0–2. (just ahead of Patrick Reed's 3½ pts with 3–0–1).
Henrik Stenson had 3 with 3–1–0.
Sergio García with 2–1–1.
& Martin Kaymer 2 with 1–1–2.

That's your 14½ from those 5 players alone.

Cab-Bello and Westwood showing the short games of 10 handicappers on 18.

It is hardly encouraging when you think these two are part of Team Europe.

Most recent Ryder Cups have been birdie-fests, presumably because the powers that be believe the public want to see loads of birdies and fist-pumps. Personally, I believe harder courses make for much better matchplay, especially in the pairs where pars can win holes as well as birdies and eagles. The Belfry is far from a great course, but had a fantastic tough 18th hole for matchplay. I reckon they'll have the tees forward, so that their bombers can smash it miles and it will play into their hands

Don't Europe win almost every time now?

I actually think Europe have an in-built advantage in this competition as although USA is clearly the strongest golfing country, it is just a country as opposed to a continent.

Does seem a bit strange therefore to make USA heavy odds on.

Having said that I do have a sneaky feeling that USA will win. Yes it's pretty much the same team as last time, but Spieth has won a couple of majors since, and Johnson Reed etc are all stronger players since Gleneagles. Koepka looks very solid. You go through there team and there aren't many weak links, whereas last time I think they had players like Furkyk and Webb Simpson who were a bit vulnerable.

Europe will be looking to exploit Fowler's lack of confidence.

lets be honest 10 million over the length of their career is a bag of chips to the likes of dusty and rory, dusty 11 o clock coke break probably cost him more than 10 million, some top golfers lose this in a year over a game of backgammon or a few months in vegas

Let's hope Arnold Palmer's passing is handled with dignity, and doesn't become a sideshow to the RC.

A minute's silence before the first tee shot on Friday, and players wearing black ribbons/armbands would be a fitting tribute imo.

I have a horrible feeling broadcasters will milk it though, and we'll be seeing old footage of AP at every opportunity.

You can bet LoveIII will use it as motivation, like Europe did with Seve. "We're doing it for Arnie" will be the battlecry this week.

Ryan Moore added as Davis Love III's final Captain's Pick. Love was scheduled to make the announcement during halftime of the Sunday Night Football match up between the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. In light of the news regarding the passing of Arnold Palmer, the decision was made to not make the announcement then, but rather in a press release that Moore's 11th-hour charge was enough to earn a spot on a USA squad hoping to win its first Ryder Cup since 2008 and just its third since 1999.

Moore joins Brooks Koepka as the only two rookies on the 2016 Ryder Cup USA team. The European team, meanwhile, will carry six rookies.
A quarterfinalist this year at the WGC-Dell Match Play, Moore's amateur match-play record is outstanding. Along with winning the 2002 U.S. Amateur Public Links, Moore also captured the NCAA Individual Championship, the U.S. Amateur Public Links, and the U.S. Amateur in 2004.
