Time zone yep
Plus
WGR players 2 and 12 (that's it).
Prize-money slightly less than say Web.com tour championship(converted to $US)
Golf Australia sold it's soul(if it ever had one)by doing a terrible deal along the lines of State of Victoria can retain(home to the famous Sand-belt Golf courses)President's Cup&World Cup and state of NSW retains The Aust Open.

AGU can dress it up however they wish but it will only be a big fish in a small pond, pity when you consider that the likes of Player,Palmer,Nicklaus,Watson all ventured all won as well as local heroes Norman etc,Commendable by Spieth to venture(thanks partly to McCormick).outside of the 1st 3 in the market the usuals will get wheeled out and perhaps  some newbie young gun will get a chance to shine.
Jordan and Jason have followed the script in their pre-tourny media commitments and that might satisfy the on-course fans.
Even sadder is the state of Oz golf trying to hold it's own on the World stage(tour wise)
We have
The Australian Open
The Australian PGA (at the public course)
we have ummm did I mention the PGA ? ok well that's 2.

The possible realities might include yes we have some world acclaimed Golf Courses designed by the World Acclaimed(past&present) but in the words of a Golf Equipment ceo(usa) when asked
With the huge demand in Australia of your product rather than ship it out why don't you build a factory here?
He replied Australian golf market accounts for 2% of our global sales.
Anyway in between the bombardment of Golf ads the home viewer might get to see some good golf(mute button recommended).

what happened to the australian masters eight ball?

Surely the way forward for golf in australia is to team up with the pga tour and have an aussie swing - say three events open, pga, masters in late november early december incorporated into the wrap around season. Use the other events as pga tour australia with a link to the web.com like they do in canada, china, latin america etc.
Report eight ball November 22, 2017 3:52 AM GMT
Hi Drive
The Australian Masters survived for 30+years but eventually IMG(who owned the rights)realized the balance sheet was showing Red numbers.
Probably a lot of info to gather from that but it does reinforce the dilemma of Oz golf going forward.
A point that is relevant is Australia's culture to product placement. We know that in the USA companies are lined up on a waiting list till 2022 to try and secure the rights to sponsor any of the 30+ tourny's on the PGA Tour. Why? because the culture of Product advertising and it's Market in the USA almost guarantees a huge jump in sales. e.g.Kia's halftime Superbowl commercial usually has a budget of US$7million add in the cost(winning tender) to air the commercial and you would naturally think why would they bother but the culture and numbers of the buyer(american couch potato)is large enough to make it a good deal.Proven year in year out,run a 30 second ad for Budweiser or Subway and the sales graph goes through the roof.
Australians don't have that same culture, never have and that creates the dilemma for future sponsorship's(how is this or that company going to make profit from sponsorship).
All to do with population and population relevant to the said sport.
As to your point re links to web tour, they did and have tried to co-sanction with the Asian tour but again this upcoming week is the perfect example
HK Open prize-money US$2 million.
Aust Open prize-money US$800,000.
Where would you rather play ?.
