SOME picks to consider...

1. Webb Simpson — Simpson is an absolute must this week. He’s got three top-10 finishes in five career Greenbrier appearances. This course suits his eye. Having a very solid season overall.

2. Bill Haas — Haas is another rare horse-for-course player at Greenbrier. He has a pair of top 10s in four starts, and he’s never missed a payday in this event.

3. Bubba Watson — Last week’s winner is making his third Greenbrier start, and he’s finished top 30 in both starts. It’s a sort-of home game for him, but don’t think of that as an edge.

4. Kevin Kisner 33's with PP — At some point, Kevin Kisner is going to win on the PGA Tour. His profile fits the type of guy that has won here in the past: not a superstar (yet), but a guy with a very solid resume. He has a bad Greenbrier record, but that was a different Kevin Kisner.

5. Paul Casey — Casey has never played at Greenbrier, so this pick is almost wholly based on his form. He’s one of two guys — Kevin Kisner is the other — to have lost in multiple sudden-death playoffs this year.

6. Tony Finau — Finau has notched six straight top-25 finishes on the PGA Tour. He’s figured out how to get it done on the biggest stage. His length should prove a huge edge and can help overcame wayward driving.

7. Pat Perez — Pat Perez has two top-10 finishes in four Greenbrier starts, so the Old White TPC clearly appeals. He was MDF’d last year. He’s rested after not playing since Memorial.

8. David Lingmerth — The Memorial winner has a pair of top-16 efforts in this event and he cashed last week at Travelers in his first start since that Muirfield Village breakthrough.

9. Brendon Todd — In his last four starts, Todd has alternated missed cuts with top-17 finishes. That’s not too shabby. Was in fourth here last year.

10. Will Wilcox — Wilcox has taken advantage of limited playing opportunities, making seven cuts in 10 starts this season, including five top-25 finishes. He was T-4 here last year.

This week it's a new PGA TOUR season that kicks off in West Virginia.

There will be new faces arriving fresh from the Korn Ferry Tour but the biggest change comes in the new cut-line rules.

The PGA TOUR has altered the 36-hole cutline rule this season.....

Top 65 and ties after 36 holes, instead of the Top 70 and ties

A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

Mostly sunny in the high 80's.....there is a 30/40% chance each day that storms arrive in the afternoon.

A true classical layout - par 70, about 7,300 yards, on bent grass greens situated about 2,000 feet above sea level (another variable only Bryson DeChambeau will examine) - The Old White TPC course has been a fixture of the White Sulphur Springs community since 1914 when C.B. MacDonald and Seth Raynor laid the groundwork here.
It's hosted since the inaugural 2010 edition of this event while the course had to undergo some major renovations after the flooding that cancelled the 2016 edition.
Plays into the hands of shorter, more accurate types... Stricker: "I was talking to somebody earlier. I don’t know if it favors any type of golfer here. I don’t think it favors a bomber. I don’t think it favors a short hitter. I think you’ve got to hit it straight. You’ve got to stay out of the rough, and you’ve got to hit some decent iron shots. The greens are putting well. They’re rolling true. So it kind of takes a complete game here, I think."

ON DEBUT...
Viktor Hovland Ranks 1st in the field in SG Ball-Striking (Off-the-Tee plus Approach) over the last year. He's taking the TOUR by storm and just needs a field-average short game performance to contend.
Scottie Scheffler It was Sungjae who stood out of last year's Korn Ferry class and this year it's Scheffler in that spot. He is one of the early favorites for Rookie of the Year alongside Hovland.

COURSE FORM...
Robert Streb, Russell Henley, Bubba (owns a house here).

CURRENT FORM...
It's DeShambles (& Kokrak)

I know we're getting spoiled with these young players winning, but what a rd and what a fantastic win by Niemann - a very mature rd today where a lot of older players may well have wobbled after some tricky leaves.
Report Total Bosman September 16, 2019 1:24 PM BST
Most impressive from Niemann, incredible to think he's almost a veteran by the standards of some of these young players yet not even turned 21 and still younger than most of the guys coming out of college and just getting started..  At 21 he'll be having his third trip round some tracks this year with two more years locked up after that, the world's his oyster.
Report Catch Me ifyoucan September 18, 2019 12:13 PM BST
A first win for Niemann - by six shots! This was the Chilean's first PGA TOUR tournament as an amateur in 2017, he secured his card here in 2018 and had the added incentive this week of trying to catch Ernie Els' eye and secure a Presidents Cup place. Devil
