Can decent look at Valhalla here: http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship/course/2014/tour/1

7th looks a cracking par 5, the 13th looks sensational and the I can envisage plenty of dramas on the 15th with that tiny green protected by sand and water. Tiger won last time with a score of -18 back in 2000 when he had that epic duel with that guy.

Looking at the market not many of the mid ranges are doing much of anything right now. Rory, Adam, Sergio, Rose and Ricky all playing some great golf lately, maybe throw in Furyk but he hates trophies. Along with Tiger and Phil, the second tier are either off the boil altogether, doing very little or in drug rehab - Kuch, Spieth, Bubba, Zach, Henrik, Kaymer and so on. Cream has really risen to the top recently, not sure who is gonna challenge the top bunch.

fowler seems a logical choice but  the current price doesn't float my boat.never really thought he was a great player in truth but hes obviously on a massive upward curve.

I was ready to lump on Harris English for the PGA. However has anyone else noticed how bad his putting has been lately? I've not seen too much of it to notice but from shot tracker it's that bad he must near enough have the yips! He is playing beautiful and giving himself birdie after birdie chance from 5-10ft but is only converting about 20% of his chances if that which is woeful from 5-10ft.

Of the so called 2nd tier players, the only one I'd back with any real confidence is Matsuyama at a general 66/1. Hard to back against Rory at the minute though isn't it?

Harris English may be suffering the pressure of trying to make Tom Watson's Ryder Cup team. If I was Tom and intended picking him if he does not auto qualify, I would give him a call and tell him he is in. As for next week , I reckon Hunter Mahon may be a bit of value. G Mac also playing well. Rory is very obvious but value would be later on in the tournament.

JUST HAD A GLANCE AT THE COURSE AND BY ALL ACCOUNTS LOOKS LIKE MAIN THING U NEED IS DISTANCE!! (sry caps)

I fear another rory show coming, which as much as I love to see I'm thinking I need to alter my outlook on the golf overall, I think the time of the 100+ ranking run is ending, the big boys gunna be in control a while!

must admit Donny, when I looked at that list just now I thought I must be wrong, they don't look long at all most of them names, but in the top 12 there u have 1st/2nd/3rd/4th and 9th longest drivers in the event that year.

the highlights from that year in stats

out of top 12 placings - there rankings for driving distance - 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/9th
out of top4 placings - there ranking greens in reg - 1st/2nd/4th/8th - so as always greens are important
out of top 7 placings - putting ranks there was - 3rd/4th/4th/7th - with tiger the winner down in 60th
out of top 10 driving accuracy - only rankings were 7th/9th - with tiger back in 12th

Now I have literally only glanced at the stuff so far, I mean 5 mins last night and 5 this morning so I'm not saying if there anything to these things as yet.

but on the face of it looks to me like DISTANCE AND GREEN IN REG ARE THE ESSENSIALS

DRIVING ACURACY AND PUTTING NOT SO MUCH.
By:

When: 04 Aug 14 11:09
see told u I'd only glanced - next thing I see is that in 2011 , every single green I think has been ripped up and completely redone - so the putting not being important part is obsolete and has no bearing on things now
By:
donny osmond
When: 04 Aug 14 11:12
putting and gir tend to be inversely related

miss lots of greens and have easy chip and putt.....

back fitting stats is dangerous too, as you are basing assumptions on one week
14 years ago, driving distance was probably 8 drives on 2 par 5s

In 96 & 2000 it was a par 72. Now it is a 7400 par 71. I would expect the rough to be much more penal than it was for the ryder cup.

Looks to me like it will suit a long straight driver. The greens are meant to be firm and fast (although this will depend on the weather) so going in with long irons will be difficut.

Every winner of the PGA since 2006 has been in the top 25 at the bridgestone the previous week.

Agreed stunning. This is the only major with a really high caliber event the week before giving the big boys a real test to find their groove. During the Bridgestone 4th round IBF was saying you need length and a high ball flight for Valhalla, he put up Adam and Day before mentioning Rory, being patriotic there but Adam is fair enough. If IBF is right about the profile not sure why he didn't mention Leishman with a bit of patriotism, has the traits and the Bridgestone form.

Leishman has to enter the equation, just a bit worried about that hook he seems to be fighting off the tee.Represents a great trading price at 65,can see him in the mix going down the stretch.

he 2014 field includes 29 major champions, with 70 international players representing 24 countries. The only fully professional field in golf also adds 20 PGA Club Pros who earned their way in by way of performances at the PGA Professional National Championship staged last month in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

didn't realize how much strengh and depth there was to this.

i can remember that putt like it was yesterday Frames, i had £300 irish pounds at 20-1 for Tiger to win 3 majors that year. Also had £200 at 150-1 to win Grand Slam but gone after the Masters. No Betfair in those days to manage positions. I should have asked Paddy Power for a price for coloured man to win all majors that year.

What price do we think Rory will go off at on here ? Layed him at 6/1 during The Open ,had some back at 8/1,even got some at 11/1(not sure what happened there),layed again at 7/1,6/1 and again now at 5/1.The good early position has long gone.Need a drift like last week but don't see it happening unless his late start Thursday is a negative.

I reckon 6.4 will be the best. Paddy Powers were best price 11/2 this morning but went to 5/1 five minutes after opening time. Hard to see him not in contention the way he is driving the ball and his confidence will be sky high. Beginning to show an aura like Tiger previously, all players looking for his name on leaderboard. I would not like to laying him for more than 6.4  Some bookies might quote 11/2 on wednesday morning but will scuttle back to the safety of 5/1 when someone puts £50 on him.
