at 7676 yards he will have to get his driver out. If he drives it well then he will be the man to beat.

Seem to recall that Calc's low ball flight on 17th in '91 Ryder Cup singles was a tad unfavourable Wink..one for the old'uns there or YouTube it...that summed up a dramatic course layout though which will make for a cracking event and lively market!

Interesting looking layout Kiawah Island. Hard to figure who it will suit but it looks like a tricked up Sea Island - Mr Consistency Matt Kuchar lives at Sea Island... Already matched a few longer prices, O'Hair, Davis and Points. When the course has an ocean view, back DA Points Wink

Linksy course, remember Pod & Paul McGinley winning the world cup here in the 90's, I believe.

can't wait for this event. The PGA gets a lot of stick as the weakest major etc but the last two have been tremendous events played on fantastic tracks. This week will hopefully be the same. If the wind blows it could be brutal (heres hoping). The field includes all of the worlds top 100.

Lovely course....link.....on par with many UK's courses......if the wind comes then it will be won by anybody......if the wind comes, expect a low scoring round.

Strategy for now is to lay those starting on the 10th hole.....higher chance of bogies than birdies.

if anyone like me is bored/sad enough to look, check out Aaron Baddeley's shot tracker for the wgc event. All over the place yet still finished tied 8th.

If there is any let up off the tee this week, he has to have a good e/w shout.

i fancy ian poulter this week, will love the links, loves the majors(7th in the masters,9th in the open),some players seem to focus solely on the majors nowadays and i think poulter is in this group, just like gmac.he has made all 11 cuts in america this year(3rd in the arnold palmer)made all his cuts in europe this year(4th in france)and won in oz just last december.i think his putting has been a huge inprovement this year,he has no nerves and even the flash bravado seems to have been toned down a bit,he will also be eager to qualify automatically for the ryder cup

Looking for value. Scott Stallings good hitter and does well on Par 5s. Also like Garrigus and Kyle Stanley

Bubba 40  - fresh and chomping at the bit.
Keegan Bradley 42 - no reason why Sunday's victory should be a negative in any way.
Bo Van Pelt 75 - Congressional and Sawgrass showed he can handle the demanding courses.
Nick Watney 80 - capable if finding his best and too big too ignore.
Bill Haas- 90 bar the first few holes on Day 1,he would have started day 4 close at Lytham.
Franny Molinara 110 -just hoping he is not beginning to lose his top form.
YE Yang 340 - had missed 4 of last 6 cuts when 3rd in last years UP Open.
Manassero 350 - Sergio went close when the bright kid of the tour.

Kyle Stanley - Quality player; backed him at The Open pretty much same reasons this week. Loved the way he achieved his bounceback victory showed his pedigree will win a major, just a matter of when.
£325 each way 150/1

Scott Piercy - Current form is just ridiculously good, can't see him winning to be honest but feel he has a very very good chance of a top 5 finish.
£400 each way 125/1

Thorbjorn Olesen - Should never of been 200/1, played with Tiger at The Open and should of really got a top 5 finish in that. Again wouldn't be suprised to him place this week, record on windy links is excellent too; he won in Sicily on a very windy course.
£125 each way at 200/1

First Round Leader
John Daly - Loves the links and played great last week, could definetely shoot a good round, and in this market in only takes 1 65 or something. Teeing off early too.
£100 each way at 200/1

I know it doesn't happen but Keegan Bradley to win back-to-back and he's the defending champ too. And he doesn't mind playing Links golf either. He's got a decent chance this week I reckon. And maybe Westy could have his big day this week too. This course could be right up his street!

Well we have no real course form to go on but are told that Kiawah Island Ocean course is a monster Pete Dye design so who will it favour? I guess with its length you can probably rule out the shortest hitters and you also nedd someone who can handle the inevitable wind that is bound to appear at some point. Basically I have gone for a range of players who I feel are overpriced due to varying factors but I have left out one player I think may go well - Webb Simpson - I want to see the bags under the eyes of the US Open winner having come back from paternity leave!
Carl Pettersson has a very strong association with the area having studied and lived in North Carolina since he was a teenager. He won the Wyndham in the state in 2008 and this year won The Heritage at Harbour Town in South Carolina. He is now a five time winner on tour and in comfortable surroundings I think he will give a fine account of himself 0.3 ew 150/1
Bill Haas is the second player I have gone for with local ties having been born, lived and been to college in either North or South Carolina and says he is familiar with Kiawah Island. He has now won four times in the last two years but has been a bit off form since winning the Northern trust Open earlier this year, however he has shown some glimpses of form in his last two starts. I think at his price he is well worth backing considering he knows how to win and has won an event as strong as the Tour Championship 0.5 ew 80/1 (6 places)
Bud Cauley is a player I just couldn't resist at 200/1 - I know it's a Major but I just cannot see why he should be such a big price when you consider the form he has shown in his short professional career. He has been 4th in his last two starts - admittedly in two weaker events but he was 4th in the stronger Bay Hill event earlier this season. I just think at the price he is well worth a small risk 0.2 ew 200/1 (6 places)
Robert Garrigus certainly has the power to overcome the lengthy Kiawah Island course but sometimes he can combine that with some great GIR stats which has led him to being 2nd three times this season already. Over his last few starts he has shown some really good scarmbling stats which should help him this week 0.25 ew 125/1 (6 places)
I am not really sure why Steve Stricker is 50/1 this week and he is the shortest priced player I will be backing. I simply don't get his price as he has won eight times in the last four years with a Major being the one "event" that has eluded him. He has been in good form over the last month including a 5th at the John Deere when going for a "fourpeat" and was 2nd last week at the WGC - quite simply he should not be double the price of Westwood or Dustin Johnson 0.4 ew 50/1
I will put Rory Sabbatini in as I like a man with a bit of course form and there are few playing this week who can say they have won at Kiawah Island but the feisty Saffer can. In 2003 he won the World Championship event here alongside Trevor Immelman so he as much as anyone will love to return to the course. He has had a strange couple of months playing events he has never or seldom played before but the bookmakers seems to have rapidly forgotten his 2nd to Tiger at the Memorial just two months ago and he has many good finishes on windy coastal courses over the years 0.2 ew 225/1 (6 places)

The favourites don't look strong to me and there's many at decent prices that you can make a good case for. I think the big hitters will be at an advantage and so far I'm on:
Bubba Watson 40/1
Dustin Johnson 40/1
Padraig Harrington 55/1
Robert Garrigus 125/1
Carl Pettersson 150/1 - thanks to TMM for this one
