He's a master of his craft now and I'm amazed he has not been picked up for a few non-golfing programmes.

He'd knock the likes of Adrian Chiles into a**ed hat on stuff like The One Show and could, I think, turn his hand to most broadcasting tasks.

Don't know who his agent is but he ain't doing him much good.

Ken Brown is great. Having sky plussed a lot of the masters I was looking forward to fast forwarding through the Yanks advert breaks, but with Ken inserted into many of those they had to be watched too. Only Hazel wittering on could be dispensed with.

Come on guys! Ken Brown is awful. He is a buffoon of the highest order. I mean in one clip he was kicking a ball when comparing a draw to a David Beckham freekick!!

^ tbh his example was pretty relevant and easy to understand to non-golfers who invaribly tune in for big events don't you think ?

After his hilarious "Side Skipping" manoeuvre, I am now convinced he belongs to one of those witches covens, where they dance naked in the woods !

Its all very amateurish. I can see your point Hearts, but personally I think he is a clown!!
Report Back High Lay Low April 15, 2010 9:10 AM BST
I once witnessed him parking his car near a Tesco's in Luton.
His reverse parking technique was exemplary, he also took great care when opening his door not to make contact with the car next to him.

Sums up Ken pretty well i think.

For me he has developed that rare ability to seem as though he is talking to you personally rather than to millions of people. The changes in vocal tone from jocular to almost secretive being a large part of that 'intimacy'.

I don't know how many takes they need before they get that 'casual but accurate' demo he specialises in, but he never refers to himself or his skill in achieving it - concentrating on illustrating the effect of the shot rather than the execution of it.

He comes across as 'the man next door' without a hint of arrogance and he doesn't do self-deprecation either; I get no sense that he is 'up himself' as you do with so many media 'personalities'.

And he makes it look effortless. All in all, a very accomplished broadcaster.
Report clarkey April 15, 2010 5:59 PM BST
Sky would ruin him.

He's perfect for the BBC in a James May sort of way.

Both, very well put.

clarkey: Did KB commentate for Sky, several years ago?

Agree with Steeplechasing & Clarkey: Ken is mint
He could probably present anything, even a documentary explaining changes in the banking industry, he explains so well, and the viewer actually concentrates when he talks rather than listening passively

He is a regular on the golf channel euro tour commentary team. That entire team are head and shoulders above Sky.

guinness2dear on 19 Jul 12 22:23.....At least Brown talks quicker than he used to play...Makes me laugh when Alliss goes on about slow play today... Ken Brown used to take an age over a 6ft putt.

cob316 on 19 Jul 12 20:23.....Aliss and Ken Brown are pure class in comparison to Murray and Critchley, 2 of the most sycophant bores in sports commentary Yup.

guinness2dear on 16 Jun 12 20:42.....Ken Brown would get 5 years for slow play today... I'm not sure but i think his putter was about the same length as Garrigus's old one.

Mr Eboue on 16 Jun 12 20:37.....Ken Brown. I bumped into him at a garage in Scotland a few years ago. I like Livingston from Sky. Aliss (when concentrating) is great. I really don't like Faldo and Feherty.

d13phe on 7 Apr 12 22:37.....it looks easy when ken brown does it, one of the best short games ever

Deplasterer on 17 Jul 11 21:28.....Didn't see a great deal as was working most of the time, but didn't notice the usual "Ken on the Course". Mr Brown a legend in my book.

LoyalHoncho on 17 Jul 10 20:50.....My favourite Alissism of all time was when he was asked by Ken Brown what he thought of an American's "claw" grip on his putter. Instantly he retorted - "the last time I saw a grip like that was in the old Gents toilets at Kings Cross Station"!

Was looking at his Wikipedia recently and surprised to see he only has 4 wins on the European Tour.  Compare that to say Sam Torrance who has 21.
