Looking at the season gone by, a few players jump out at me as having had very disappointing seasons, I'm sure there are many more so feel free to throw them into the hat. Here are my 3:

Immelman - It amazes me how a player can go from winning arguably the most prestigious golf tournament on the planet one season, and finishing 156th on the money list the next season. Admittedly he doesn't play every week on the PGA tour, but he didn't exactly achieve much in his European starts either. A big disappointment.

Baddeley - Not long ago Baddeley was the pin-up boy of the 'stack and tilt' movement, but his form has taken a serious dive lately. He managed to creep in the top-125, but suffered a string of missed cuts, and a best finish of 9th place. Given that this guy was seriously being talked up as a future major winner and bright young star, 2009 was pretty bleak.

Woods - Personal troubles aside, it has clearly been a disappointing year for the great one by his standards. Admittedly, a disappointing year for him would be a career-defining year for many a player, but Tiger failed to win a single major. Worse still, he lost his 'invincible' 54-hole leader major record. I'm sure he'll bounce back, but catching up with Nicklaus is looking increasingy dubious.

Any additions welcome....

woods for me.
he has let more people down than he could ever imagine
Report Hearts.no1 December 23, 2009 7:14 PM GMT
Baddeley is to occupied with god to worry about golf imo.
Report Tiger-W1 December 23, 2009 7:38 PM GMT
It is Gods choice for him to have had a bad year, he wont be upset.

Imo has had a terrible time with injuries, unfair to criticise him too harshly.

Disappointments for me:

Harrington - did nothing in the first six months of the year, then when he got into contention, he got the jitters like the old days.

Garcia - after a couple of good wins at the end of 08 and some signs his putting was improving, I hoped he might finally be turning the corner...but 09 was back to his old ways with avengance. I fear he will now never fulfill his potential.

Villegas - failed to kick on from big wins at end of 08

Kim - too much partying.

Choi - very quiet year
Report Mr Eboue December 23, 2009 7:41 PM GMT
Justin Rose deserves a mention here.

serg was sh1t, cos he got dumped :/ baby shouldve got over it and won the open, espec only 2 behind after 2days, then prob cried himself to sleep that night and shot +6 next day :(
Report fading December 23, 2009 8:44 PM GMT
didn't realise Immelman had too bad injury problems this year, thought they were more in 2008 and he didn't really have any long layoffs in his 2009 schedule which I'm guessing he would have done had he had bad injury problems - played all the way through from January.

AK is a good shout too yep
Report mascherano December 23, 2009 9:06 PM GMT
fading after the Crowne Plaza invatational he missed 2 months of Golf. (missing The Open and US Open). when he came back he only played 2 events in the space of 3 months. (Missing the USPGA)

not sure what his injury was.

Report mascherano December 23, 2009 11:30 PM GMT
JB has won twice (both the FBR) won by 7 strokes (thats special) and beat Micko in a play off (thats special). wasn't he also in the one of the last groups in the USPGA in 08. he fell apart but played well.

JB has won more in America than Rose has won.
Report THE SPINNER December 23, 2009 11:33 PM GMT
Report Gary Binosh December 23, 2009 11:35 PM GMT
i wouldnt class rose as special

and when i looked at the rankins at the start of 2009, JB wasnt in the top 64, so he was not very good going into the year
Report mascherano December 23, 2009 11:39 PM GMT
i actually rate JB. like his game and if he could learn to putt he will be amazing. you look at some of the names on here, Camilo,Kim,Rose he has won more/the same as these players. i didn't expect much from him but thought he would be in the top 50 in fed x cup points.

Nobody mentioned Ernie . Always one of my favourite players , technically and attitude wise .

But evidence I saw this year in particular would not encourage me to have apenny on him in the foreseeable future .

So much talent , so little result recently .

Hope he turns it on in 2010 , but the sands of time may begin to run out faster now .
Report Gary Binosh December 23, 2009 11:44 PM GMT
yeah Masch, but Luke Donald played in the 2006 Ryder Cup :^0
Report mascherano December 23, 2009 11:44 PM GMT
kelly he aint been disappointing. played well but has just been awful when in contention.
Report mascherano December 23, 2009 11:47 PM GMT
and he played in 04 Gary.

what im saying is that he was a disappointment this year. after a win and playing in the Ryder cup (which the us won :( ) this year has been poor.
Report Gary Binosh December 23, 2009 11:49 PM GMT
well i suppose im basing it on the rankings, but i guess after winning and playingnthe ryder cup team, i cant argue, ive seen nothing of him this year

last i'll say on JB gary. i dont want to bore you to death with facts etc

Won FBR Open
Was in the Last group on the last day of the 2008 USPGA
Was in the winning Ryder Cup team

finished 38th in the Fed-ex cup

lost a play off to Casey at the Shell houston

finished 69th in the Fed-ex cup

(also came 2nd in the shark shoot out)

an average/poor season for him.

What about Boo ?
Report mascherano December 23, 2009 11:58 PM GMT
Lorena Ochoa ?

(no one said this had to be a thread about male golfers)

from number 1 she really has gone backwards.

oj, Boo, well tbf i think he was doing to well in previous season, as he says its only a hobby to him

Ochoa though is an absolute must for this thread, finally she isnt starting tournaments at even money

Had a great year with the Majors (Glover, Cab, Yang) and a huge profit on them but the US Tour proved trickier to crack so I look forward to trying again next year, as well as continuing to enjoy the genuine decency and excellent tips on this forum. Best on Betfair.

I had a long running fondness for Hamilton but realise now that he is gashed. Piercy continues to be on my radar but seems incapable of closing out, many let downs there in 09. Woods is a let down for the entire sport. Garcia needs to get his act together in 2010. I backed Watney on several occasions to no avail.

My golf wish for next year would be to see Phil win the British Open. His approachability and etiquette make him a stand out as a man for me.
Report Utd Fan December 24, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
Agree with most of those already mentioned but two more for me

Andres Romero - expected more from him this year

Ernie Else - going backwards faster than I originaly thought and possibly in monty territory
