Slightly strange development as he`d have been unlikely to play until at least the end of January, and possibly not until the WGC in mid-Feb, so I don`t see why any announcement needs to be made now. The cynic in me says he`s either just window-dressing to look like he`s doing everything possible to save the family to try to rebuild his image, or there`s still more to all this than meets the eye.

not on betfair

How many Majors will Tiger Woods win during 2010? The four Majors are the Masters, the US Open, the Open Championship, and the USPGA Championship. All bets stand irrespective of how many majors Tiger Woods plays in 2010. This market will be suspended at the start of the US Masters. At this time all unmatched bets will be cancelled and the market will be re-opened. At no other time will Betfair cancel unmatched bets and it is the users responsibility to manage their own positions.

Rory announces he's joining the tour and few weeks later Tiger announces he's leaving indefinitely.

The more i think about it the more it looks like the car crash and the subsequent revelations about Tiger's 12 extramarital affairs could all just be an elaborate sham designed to give Tiger a decent excuse to leave the tour so he doesn't have to take on the curly haired boy wonder.

Can you imagine him moping around the house, "Of course I don't wanna play golf Elin darling". He'll drive her mad. Biggest recipt for divorce ever. Give the marriage 6 months at most.
Report espinjo December 12, 2009 8:16 AM GMT
might be the beginning of the end
no doubt he will be back but this has taken a great out of him and he knows people look at him very different after this mess up.
That might be the biggest problem. How woods ego will cope cause thats whats given him the edge.
And can he stay away from the good stuff once hes taken a liking to it ?
Elin was his first and once he dicovered there was better putting surface elsewhere there was no holding back.
Annoucment of woods being a sex-addict and in therapy due before summer. Annoucment of set back before next x-mas and divorce in may 2011.
Then after not winning any majors until 2014 he will anoounce his retirement and focus on bulding courses and become yet another bizznisman in the sport of golf.
And people will argue even more who was the greatest of all time.

Tiger will be back when his management deem the climate favourable for a return

Maybe some charity work at home or overseas whilst he is off , might raise his stock a little, a visit to the forces overseas would raise his stock somewhat as well , especially as he has often spoken warmly of his respect for those guys.

Like disgraced politicians etc time will mend to some extent and he will return. Hopefully when he does he shows more respect to the fans as he needs to earn their respect. An hour signing after a round and some photos would help in that process.

I dont undestand the big deal, if its not working with the Swede he should get rid.

As soon as you get caught playing away the relationships over anyway as they have you by the balls when the trust goes.

His PR team need to get working overtime, maybe dig up some dirt on Elin so he can come out of this with a tiny bit of credibilty and get back to playing golf.

The whole situation is doing my head in, my wife wont stop going on about how much she detests him every time he appears on the tv now.
Report Tiger-W1 December 12, 2009 11:23 AM GMT
Tiger's management have announced this purely to try and get the press off his back. There's nothing he hates more than having people prying into his life. He's hoping keeping a low profile for a few months will quiten things down for a while. He'll be back for the masters imo no doubt. He'll get bored after a couple of months without playing.

Elin will file for divorce soon anyway. How can she possibly stay with him after he was sleeping around when she heavily pregnant, taking these birds back to their house when she was away etc. If she does stay it will purely be via a finanical settlement where they will have their own wings of the mansion and not see each other, just a public show.

The biggest challenge will be to have a better relationship with the public. He should take a leaf out of Mickelson's book.

Little conspiracy theory i`ve been working on: Tiger been exposed as a bit of a party animal, possibly a bit off the rails, been behaving badly on the course for a while now, found `snoring` at the scene of a late night car crash, refused to talk to cops.

There was a lot of speculation about drugs at the time of the crash. A failed drug test destroys Tiger and the tour. An `indefinite break` sounds much better for both. Just a thought.

suspect it will be the opposite. Would expect to see Tiger giving less and becoming more of a recluse.

Still wouldnt be suprised to see him return in dubai wipe the floor with the field and go on to dominate golf again. I cant see how he can repair his marriage after all of this and he would be better moving on and concentrating on his golf.

I can see public opinion turning at some point, perhaps when people feel Tigers' had enough of a media and public bashing they'll start to feel sorry for him.
People will want to see him back doing well, the media will sense this and start writing some "he's changed, now he's looking for redemption on the golf course" type stories which will further improve the public's sentiment towards him.
Talkback radio hosts who criticize or joke about Tiger will receive a barrage of callers saying " hey, lay off Tiger ".

Also probably helps in America that his wife is a foreigner and not some all-american type girl from texas or california.

Heard an experienced journalist from New York say today that there is ''no sympathy'' for Woods in the US.
Apparently he took one of his paramours home while his wife was pregnant.
That's pretty lurid stuff and makes a mockery of the clean-cut family man image that he had cultivated and been lavishly rewarded for .
So... to the infidelity we must add hypocrisy . At least John Daly never pretended to be anything other than a ''wild thing'' bad boy.
While Woods golfing record excites high admiration -his behaviour on-course has been questionable and his shenanigans off-course are indefensible.
The storyhas all the makings off a classical tragedy -who knows how it will unfold ?
