Hi Guys, Newbie here.

Opened betfair account 4 days back and overall lose of £40 - not happy.

Ive read over and over and over the laying business and ive decided to set up this thread in order to keep discipline and to hopefully win another £500. Im not being greedy im just looking to double my money!

On Thursday (28th) im putting £500 into my betfair account and it begin.

What do you people suggest, small bets or say £50?
Stay to football, tennis or go elsewhere.

Done betting before so know the basics, just looking for advice.

Also, any cheeky tips or bets for the weekend?

Thanks for reading, Redbull5

Eh, if your bank is £500 I wouldn't be looking to bet £50 every time. If I here the word discipline in another one of these threads like it's the key to generating money, I am gonna do my brains in.

Redbull5, I wouldn't risk more than £5 per bet with a £500 bank, and I would be placing many bets per day which may or may not get matched.

Laying or backing makes little difference, there's no advantage to laying if that's what you're thinking.

You can't "make sure they're profitable" as all outcomes are unknown. What you must do is calculate the true odds and bet at value, if you can't get matched at value don't bet. The results of your bets will then be irrelevant (the point that non value believers can't accept) and your bank will grow regardless of outcomes of events.

If I was you I would bet to minimum stakes for the first month then reassess. GL :)

Ok Guys, cheers for the advice, think im going to start on £5-10 bets where the liability isnt more than 10-15% of my total bank!

Going to take it slow and careful, not going to get carried away and limit myself aswell.

Anybody got any tips for tonights footy games?
Cheers

I think you will find that Trevh means your bet (or liability) shouldn't be any more than say 1% of your bank. I suggest you restrict it to 1 to 3% but defn no more than say 5% of your bank.

Good luck with your venture ...

I can give you a very good tip to making money on betfair, watch the horse racing markets, observe the weight of money which sometimes shows huge amounts available to lay, this indicates that professional punters are wagering certain good things to win, this doesn't happen in bookmakers anymore as exchanges offer better prices and acceptance of winners.

the best type of races to use this system of following the smart money are, maidens aw and flat, novice hurdles and sometimes handicap races, you will be surprised how beautifully transparent the betfair exchange is and see where exactly all the smart money is going ....

just pointing newbies in the correct direction as if you know where all the money is going then its a simple affair to trade in and get a good position pre-start and make a profit without even needing the dark horse to win, easy as ABC.

ok guys, results from today, pretty happy, would take this ammount everyday if i could. Had a loss of £9 aswell but it shows i can still make a profit whilst losing a bet.

Downloading the spreadsheet wont work so il just put my profit in each sport.

Horse Racing - £11.40
Tennis - £10.45
Soccer - £6.02

Total profit for 26/10/2011 = £27.82

New Balance - £527.82

Hopefully i can take this rough amount and hopefully each week i will make £100.

Cheers Guys

Redbull5
When: 26 Oct 11 23:30
3 mate, lay odds of between 10-15.. Nothing high at this point i dont want a shocker and lose half my bank in the first week. Going to be very careful and try make this work! Will be very happy at the same result every day!

How you getting on mate

By:
Redbull5
When: 26 Oct 11 23:51
at the very most between £20-£50!

So im just going on all different sports at the moment trying to win a little on each not just sticking to one. After a while i might stick to something i like obviously but just getting used to laying. Never done it before today.

well yeah i mean if you lay a 10-1 for £5 and it wins your straight down by £50, then you gotta be disciplined enough not to chase. i once slammed £850 on a horse to place chasing. it lost Cry

so be careful mate

do you work?

Thanks very much, Erm i might do it, but sometimes when i see other people do it for every day it gets cluttered so i may just post up my totals on each sport like yesterday! il see i dont know yet, what would the people reading it like?

Actually Redbull5 - it is probably the only interesting bit of information that other people would wish to look at .... and as you posted it at the beginning of your thread this was something that certainly took my interest.

You only did three horse race bets and don't know how many football bets ... how many did you do by the way - that I have no idea why you would think it would look cluttered ....

At the end of the day it is your challenge ....

I like to back and lay dogs, usually look to lay two dogs in a race for say £10 stake and back one dog for a £10 stake, i.e, if my dog loses but the other two and also losers then I make £10, obvioulsy if one of my selections wins it can be expensive give the 100% book prices compared to industry SP but it has served me well.

My next bet if Romford 3-07, back T2 and lay T4 & T6, obvioulsy if there are non runners or reserves my bet is void as these selcetions are based on the form of the original card.

Hope you enjoyed a winner and two well beaten lays! Next bet is Crayford 3.58, backing T4 and laying T3 and T6. I also think On The Way Out will easily win the 4.15 at Clonmel although will not be backing it if it goes off much less than 5/2
