i received my phone call yesterday telling me that 40% was now what i was now

going to incur.  he told me precisely 480 people were affected by this, yet it seems like

thousands have made over 250k judging by the forum.

clearly gonna have to try betduck again, but i play on mainly snooker, darts and tennis

so im probably completely f**ked as those sports seem to be dead over there bar tennis possibly.

now gonna have to up my poker playing, go back to a bit of spread betting and odd fixed odds betting as well.

and all coz betfair wernt just happy picking up all the commision i was creating for them.

cant see me  doing a proper job as my wife says i havent got a days work in me!!

im too used to playing golf, tennis and watching sport for past 6 yrs.

Why give it up if you can still make money?

not giving up gambling m8, but 40% on betfair is a bit too big a hurdle for even shrewdies.

be a case if i have to bet on here i will do, but will have to branch out whenever i can elsewhere.

Just make an extra 40% in bet winnings to cover it ... god, if you are making a living out of betting don't complain !!

It's 40% of your profit though so you'll still be in profit overall?

Simple variance in results may knock a few people out though catflappo, they'll be a lot of difference in averaging your profit over 10 years compared to weekly. To fall in the 40% net now won't only catch the courtsiders/insiders

im not complaining about making a living out of betting, but just rocking up with

an extra 40% in winnings is something im sure we would all like to do!!

id probably still make a profit but would be crab fat really.

as some guys have already mentioned, i also made most of my money between 2004 and 2008

and as time has gone on there are far more clued up people on here, so its been a

case of just grinding out a much smaller profit on here.

callataxi like you made most of my money in early days.  markets are much tighter now.  not worth the time and effort to end up with £40 instead of £100 (£80 was just about acceptable if you cut out the weak markets).  Betqu345ck worth a go, but otherwise its retirement.  only addicts will stay on.

calla im the same i made lots between 2004-2008 as well in a lot of the markets you do and many more.it has got a lot more difficult mainly because of the initial pc i have paid it every week bar maybe 4-5 since its inception, also the superbot jumping in and lowering the spread has made it harder to part the fishes money from them.i scaled down a bit on here and have been doing other things in the last couple of years as well so i guess i am lucky or was it foresight in doing this i dont know but it has ment i am still a long way of 250k,so i guess i am lucky for the moment that i will still only be paying 24% roughly most weeks.i have no doubt the next time they change it if its a couple of years they will probably get me again.the thought of a real job again after all this time is a terrible thought as i will be nearly 50 in a couple of years and i dont think i could handle it after all this time,gl bud i hope you find a solution.the snooker markets wont be the same without you and wicklow if you cant find a way round it.

im not on that calla sorry,as i said in my previous post i am not as active now as i used to be some weeks i dont bother at all i only bet when their is major events on now as the fish migrate then and there is plenty of scraps about to be cleaned up as you know.i hope it works out for you,i tried the other place last time but the markets you most want are either not there or populated with like minded people so its hard to make it pay.anyway i must go now.

no its not andy, losing 20% of my previous income on here made me branch out into other unrelated things  that did not take much of my time but its something that is handy as a back up to my gambling.

Hi calla

not had the call yet, but it will be 50% for me

I somehow can't see me keeping the motivation giving 50% back. Reckon i'm going to press it for a couple of months to see how it goes.

Good luck (we're going to ****g need it)

I think there will be more than just 40%ers whining.

I've not seen a post by a 20%er (I'll be one of those) yet who expects to be on 20% this time next year when the goalposts move again.

If they thought only the 480 new guys in the net were going to complain, they thought horribly wrong.
By:

When: 30 Jun 11 18:08
Lori certainly there is a fear they'll just keep moving the goalposts. I commented on that yesterday.

If you were cynical you might think they will, and are taking the "lets see what we can get away with" approach and a gradual bar lowering / rate raising.

"If they thought only the 480 new guys in the net were going to complain, they thought horribly wrong."

Surely for a lot of people there is surely a sense of fairness and an "if I was in their shoes"?
Also, given it's over a LIFETIME, maybe in a 5 or 15 years, how many of us, if we're very lucky, will pay it?

It's certainly something to make you think long term about BF knowing they've just stuck an axe above the head of anyone who does well here, measured over your entire lifetime, and will implement negative things that apply retrospectively.

If only it were that simple.

As Knight Rider has pointed out on his Monte Carlo simulation thread, there will be some customers who were up to now able to make a living from betting on here, but who will now be unable to overcome this new PC charge.
