I am going to run this little evil gem of a system on the horse racing favs, with a stop-loss of £1000 and reset.
Bank of £2000 - for £70 per run - backing no less than 3s
Feel free to discuss the merits and enormous pitfalls of the Martingale betting system here, although I doubt there is much that needs commenting on now.
High risk and not recommended, i'm in the lap of the Gods.
Thankfully i've been doing other betting on top (lays) which is going smoothly so far - possibliy due to the ground.
Strange, I was just thinking similar!Thankfully i've been doing other betting on top (lays) which is going smoothly so far - possibliy due to the ground.
Wedged, somewhere back in an earlier post you said that there were certain types of races that you did not get involved in and also that you were happy to play in Irish racing. I simply mean that I am betting blind in all UK horse racing without applying any sort of personal opinion about the race type, conditions etc.
Your results so far show a profit of £3242 in 25 days. This is an average of £129.68 per betting day. At a target of £70 profit per bet you are making a profit of approx 1.85 points per betting day.
By betting blind in UK racing only at odds of 3.3 or greater I am making an average of 1.79 points per betting day. Slightly less than you but close enough to suggest that plain old averages would provide a similar result.

That drift was worrying, but it by no means is a guide to spot a loser/winner imo.

Hi Topnag, I'd not worked out my profit per points stat - interesting, thanks.
I see, so yeah with a recoup losses system such as martingale, you do stand a good chance either way - as long as you avoid the days that bring some very stange results. And that is where the stop loss comes in which should help you reduce the damage caused by those days considerably.
How long have you been running yours?

DAY 26 finished with TWO successful RUNS giving a net profit of £130.
Should be slightly more but annoyingly my first bet didn't quite have enough on to make the £70 so lost £2.50 even before commission.
Finished slightly early but I agree with Buzzer's earlier opinion to stop after the 2nd run as the ground was an unreadable factor.

I was first introduced to cover-to-win staking when an old racing buddy showed me a copy of the Legacy betting system about 10 years ago. I believe it is still in copyright so I won't give the selection method here but it was not the winner finding method that impressed me (which is pretty obvious) but the staking plan. I have applied it to many different betting methods over the years, the most successful being to back the favourites in maidens from the beginning of the flat season to midsummers day. Wait till next year and try that too!
It is the staking plan of a current and popular system called the Favoutites Phenomenon which grinds out steady profits over time as well. I am a forum addict and have been following your thread from the start, and have been playing with real money but to smaller stakes over the last 2 months. I am a firm believer that systematic betting is a profitable exercise, but that no single plan will make you the retirement package that you dream of.
I have added your version to three other cover-to-win systems that I am currently running and it is a welcome and profitable addition. I have a day job (of sorts) and am unable to keep uninterrupted records as the nature of cover-to-win betting means that you have to be free to bet all afternoon. I can usually get 3 or 4 afternoons free per week.
The way I am betting is this. UK horse racing only. Odds to be 3.3 or greater on Betfair. Bet to be matched before the off ( no in-running). Cut off point to be the equivalent of a loss of 6 points. This will vary according to prices but as a general rule this will stand a run of 6 or 7 losses. By betting this way I am getting returns very close to yours in terms of points won. There must be many variations on this method.
Good luck with your target of 10k. I am cheering you on!

By the way the pedant in me insists on calling this a cover-to-win method and not a martingale. Martingale simply means doubling up your stakes after a loss and is the express super highway to the poorhouse.

A good read there, Topnag. Best of luck to you also. I see you have been here since 03 so hopefully you are quite accomplished at what you do by now. :) Glad it's been worth a read for you (and others).
I understand it's not strictly martingale, so I agree there, but it is rather more catchy hehe.
P.S. Good result for you stevies. I made a bit of play money on the game, although would have made more had MU not won! ha.

took on Iron Range at 2.16 in the 2.20, someone must know something but this is plenty short enough against the horses who've already shown reasonable form

Have to admit I followed the market like a sheep there. It must have been doing great things away from the course for that price though.
At least it won't have hurt you much at that price Buzz.

Just one of those days that we have to expect now and again, being the 3rd run that has hit a stop loss of the thread.
Using my averages, it should add 7 days onto the length of the challenge until (hopefully) we reach the target.
Due some luck perhaps?
