Seems like countries that are over -controlling internally or externally and countries with shakey or lob-sided political balances or border issues will say no to online betting.
Makes one proud to be betting on betfair and british. ![]() |

I couldn't get on Betfair from Turkey two years ago.
As someone says, it could be because of Islamic Law. Saying that, and I know it's not a "proper" Muslim country (I think it was 60/40 Muslim/Christian) when I was there, but I could bet from Lebanon, albeit ten years ago. And it was on W Hill. |
By:
It's not about Islamic Law (in Turkey) It's all about the money - online gambling in Turkey is restricted to the state owned website - IDDAA who are the only online licence holder there. Turkish government has tried to block bank transactions to foreign owned betting companies but not too successfully. The state owned website offers very poor odds and is the last choice of any serious gambler there.

^
like unibet in Holland. |
By:
And the Dutch government has also tried blocking transactions etc. It's all about money for all these European countries who don't receive a penny in tax when their citizens bet. They can't actually say so though, so they make up some stuff to justify it.

Any updates please ? cyprus -no ??? Cyprus was very much available when you posted that on July 8th. It's still very much available now, but technically illegal since since last Friday the 13th. The legislation isn't aimed at home users though, and it may not be blocked. The picture is far from clear at the moment. I'll keep you posted. |

Today on the news - Betfair exchnage not available in Germany and Austria.

By:
Betfair is still available in Austria and in Germany the situation is not clear because excludes only persons who are residents in Germany to avoid any tax problems.
|
By:
is it Betfair LEGAL in Canada or just active for betting but illegal?
|

I can offer solutions for people who cannot bet in their countries. I'm a full time here. pm if interested.

I've taken my eye off the ball with BF 'news' of late. Have they made any progress with opening up the USA?
|
By:
From what I have read and seen, Betfair are focusing on California and the lobbying that is going on there.
New Jersey is also a strong market to go after. |
By:
Cheers, SS. Judging by liquidity across some of the markets, the sooner things start to open up the better!
|
By:
Bf will never crack the USA it may "bribe" a state or two but even then they would need a seperate platform, the state laws and federal laws on gambling over there are crazy and will never agree, take a bet and lay it off in NY and youre looking at rico charges designed to jail mafia members. . .
