**really, there are many underlying reasons why people win. Most have nothing to do with luck.

Luck is a convient curtain to cover the underlying reasons.

" There are lies, damn lies, statistics and then there is form".
From The Sayings of Dr Slicer, available at all not very good bookshops nowhere in the country.

I have seen "Luck" first hand. Both good and bad! Believe me- it does exist.

This is a very philosophical thread! Maybe we should consult that famous philosopher Mark Hughes?

Hard work and luck are something to do with luck re gambling/work i would guess. If ,say, a small kid has cancer or run over..would they have been ok if they had put in the 'hardwork'?

if the kid is taught the importance of crossing the road properly, kid survives , cancer is another story, but i was just chatting from a gambling point of view, that whats on peoples minds on here.

I know..was just saying luck can't just be in some walks of life and not others. If it affects one it's got to affect all.

You can't dismiss luck. It's lucky you were born/raised and live in a 1st world country. Lucky you weren't born with a terrible disability. These are things which we cannot control. Circumstances and fate. Now, making the best of the hand you're dealth, that is another matter. So everybody is partly correct, but luck (good and bad) is always there and it's always a factor.

It depends what you mean by luck.
Obviously there are fluctuations due to random chance, which are larger than we intuitively expect, leading us to see patterns which aren't really there.
If by luck we mean a sticky kind of good fortune which is not due to chance, that is another matter.
