A brief look at these two games
Looking at things objectively, Spain are overrated, they are overrated because they have looked like world beaters against piss poor opposition, an old Croatian team with 5 of the front 6 being over 30 who were clearly at a tournament too far for them, they beat one of the worst Italian sides of all time who needed a last minute goal to scrap past the worst Croatian of all time, then they beat Albania and Georgia, wow.
They haven't players of Musialia,Wirtz, Havertz, Gundogan and Kroos calibre running at them or threading balls through, no where near, bearing in mind this was also the same Spanish team that lost to Scotland in qualies. That said, Germany's defence is not what is was either, 2-1 Germany for me with Kimmich and Raum or Mittlestadt to do a job on Yamal and Williams.
If Martinez had the ball he would drop the cry baby Ronaldo, refuses to let Fernandes take free kicks of pens when he's better than him at them, is the focal point of attack but turns like a ocean liner. France want the opposition to have the ball so they can counter, dangerous tactic with Silva and Bruno in midfield, at least it would be if Ramos was starting so he can actually run in behind the defenders. Mbappe doesn't need to play with a mask, but is doing so, restring his vision, makes him feel uncomfortable and doesn't looks as effective. Feels like a draw, probably 0-0, extra time, pens. Portugal to edge it.

I think England could be confident with drawing 0-0 with both of these teams
have played better opposition while looking very average
alot of power/pace athletes in this French team but very little real technical ability or nous.

as tobes referenced...coverage would have been quite tame as no home nations involved (or Ireland who used to get treated as one for some reason)

With no home nation representation in France, both the BBC and ITV decided to snub the tournament. Just two matches were shown live – the West Germany v Spain group match and the final – a crying shame for those of us starved of football on television. The BBC screened Uruguay-England live and ITV showed the second half of Brazil v England (thus missing John Barnes’ wonder goal), but their decision to ignore Euro 1984 seemed odd.
TV bosses probably thought that a football tournament with no home nations was unlikely to be a ratings winner. Football was hardly sexy at the time, but the decision to mainly put out highlights shows deprived viewers of watching some classic matches as they happened.

Just get rid of extra time. Means the better team has to attack more in normal time
But a lot of better teams are happy to go to the lottery of pens and don't take risk late in the match or ET.

Spain at the last 2 WCs a prime example. Going to pens against Russia and Morocco who want pens and get a psych boost when they get there.

There are less bad ones nowadays. Both these teams are strong at the back and poor up front. Deschamps always approaches KO games against teams like that very cagily.

Maybe. I just like them from a betting standpoint, 30-60 mins more chance to make money.

I was expecting France to get better as the tournament went on. But they've got worse. Yet are in the semi final. That saying 'knowing how to win' springs to mind.
both France and Spain were willing to take high profile players off a good while before the end of the game, and it paid off for them. That's something Southgate is too scared to do.

I think France have been poor up front. Good in midfield and defence. They have played better teams than anyone else, need to factor that in, and most of them pack the defence when they attack.
@ Wonderssobright, today was a new day for the UK,England is by far away the majority of that,while i would in the past agree with the sentiment,i would like them to win tomorrow,get to the final maybe, winning it would be a step too far for me but i think it would be a boost for the country.
I've no prob with England winning it if they are the best team on the day or even if they aren't and play well and take their chances better. Was the same at the last WC and euros.
But no way if they stink the place out every game and win it. I thought they played quite well against France at the last WC and wouldn't have minded if they'd stolen it late like the French did but I think that was because they went behind early in the game. Normally it's the other way around and they play anti-football for 70+ mins.

Hamann comes across as cynical and negative but those tips were plausible except for Openda which was dumb, he only started 1 qualifying game so not sure how he was going to start over Lukaku let alone be top scorer. I had Portugal winning and Ronaldo doing well before the off, looks stupid now but it's easy after the event, he was on pens and free kicks and thought he'd rack up a few goals in the groups, same as Lukakua who should of done but had 3 disallowed. The only thing I had right in the group stages was the exact finishing order of Austria's group at 22/1, also put too much weight on Germany doing well at a home tournament, another couple of years under Nagelsmann and they will probably be favourites for the World Cup in America, Spain winning the final on pens at 40/1 would be the only other long odds winner.
