the biggest laugh is we are terrible at parking the bus....its not the natural game and our players are far better when we press and play attacking football....

It would have been a lot worse if you hadn't won. I don't get Kane, top player who plays the game proper at Bayern yet when he pulls on an England jersey he just wants to fall to the ground at every opportunity. Also no point in playing Arnold in midfield if players aren't running beyond the defenders for him to launch balls to. That's why he's in the team there can't be for any other reason.

This is what I mean when I say look at England players in an England shirt. Great names on paper and for club. Not the same in an England shirt. Kane and Foden prob the worst. A right footed LB will not work with Foden, not that Southgate likes his FBs to push on much (but at one point early in the 2nd H he had both pushed on as wingers beyond Foden and Saka, just for one attack with only two at the back?!)

I would say it's the manager influencing them more. Telling them to close the game out, which they did in fairness. 3 points in the first game is huge, whatever the performance.
When England had Scholes on the left and no top class left footed left sided winger, they still had Ashley Cole or a left-footed FB. Now they have two right footers and the FB doesn't push on anyway. Courtesy of bookies I made a couple of chickens. But, the stress created by Mr Southgate's managerial inadequacy cannot be good for England backers.

not Kane playing deep again ffs, we've had all that in the past, virtually playing a quarter back role, he needs to stay up top with better service.
He does f all if he stays up top against a deep lying defence. No pace to run in behind, not good enough in the air or holding it up, if he at least moved a bit by dropping deep with others running beyond him it would cause more problems than him being satic for 90 mins. What attributes does he have to beat centre halves defending deep?

The whole point of T-A-A starting with his passing ability was to help Kane, so far that's just a sample size of one match, he will persist with this route but needs to bring in Gordon to at least beat the full backs and get a cross in, Foden can't do that.
Kane is static and marked by 2 CHs. All England's attacking is up the right side, Kane's movement is atrocious. Get him dropping a little and the likes of Saka, Foden and Bellingham making runs into the box and one FB at a time providing width on the attacking side. TAA would have more options then too. How is TAA going to help Kane static and marked by 2 men? Giroud would cause that defence much more trouble than Kane. It's not about getting him to drop deep, you have to have runners in behind with it and lateral link up too. Southgate is very poor at attacking tactics. That's England's problem.

+ves are it was easily the best defensive performance of the Euros so far. Serbia had no decent chances. Negatives, England were totally ineffective on the left hand side. There was now width or danger. Foden was awful, (I partly blame Southgate) and Trippier who was very solid defensively, offered nowt offensively and no width as he's right footed. How bad must Chilwell be now? England need Grealish when they are under the cosh, especially in this match where Serbia were going man for man. Grealish normally has players doubling up on him. I'd have prolly bought on Eze. Like Southgate, TAA was all over the place (I blame Southgate there too) Better teams could have exploited his two bad mistakes. If England can't keep the ball, I'd chance Wharton, or move Bellingham back and play Palmer in the ten. The good thing is if England beat Denmark, they've likely won the group, so Shaw can get a full 90 minutes, and players like Wharton, Palmer and Eze can press their case. Thank god for Bellingham

Disagree with most comments. Mostly positive reinforcements from last night for me. Without Bellingham, England have a decent squad but not a tournament winning squad imo but really great players can elevate their teammates and Bellingham's influence will have that effect on the whole camp. We were robbed of Duncan Edwards but his spirit has come back. We are very lucky.
England have also been lucky having to play Marc Guehi. I don't doubt the manager would have stuck with Harry Maguire if possible but on the evidence of the tournament so far he would have been a liability. Grappling in the box is not permitted.

Play two number 10's in Foden and Bellingham, nobody better than Foden in threading balls through, drop Trent, put Gordon or Eze out wide. I'd drop Kane and play Toney as well, Kane clearly half fit.
The only change I would make is to drop Trent and either swap for Mainoo.

Thought Cesc Fabregas comments were interesting. Ultimately the good players have got to want to play better. Having a shocking manager isnt an excuse, go out there and grab the game despite him.

southgate seems to struggle to adapt his tactics & formation, if it works he's fine, but said before once you need to adjust he doesn't have the ability to make it happen, an abundance of talent but tactically he's lacking, he needs to find the right balance whether by choice or accident

Kane had TWO touches of the ball in the first half, it's the job of the midfield to feed him, not his job as some have said to come and get the ball, that's a waste of his talent. Southgate needs Foden and Bellingham centrally and someone one the left wing that can actually beat a defender, cross or make runs towards goal with aim of giving him the ball. But in the Denmark game based on his comments pre match, there will be no changes.
Hope the FA are on the phone to Klopp's representatives because if they don't get him someone else will.

There's a case to be made for Kane dropping a bit deeper at times to create space but that's up to how you want to play tactically...
neither is wrong or right as such..it's also worth noting that despite a relatively quiet game it still took a very decent save to keep him off the score sheet and he's currently the most fouled player in the tournament (6) - some of those very handy in reducing Serbian momentum in the 2nd half..

Some of you worry too much. All will be well. Once Foden and Kane get their teeth into the Danes, you will be eating humble pie. CES also said putting defensive players on instead of attacking players, puts doubt in players mind,but the subs went on because we,d already lost control,our attacking play, is CES seriously suggesting that if CES,MEESI,chavi, BUSQ lost control of a game attacking wise and you took 2 or 3 of those players off ,the subs replacing them would br able to get the momentum back that those 4 had lost, if fodden,jude,saka,trent,kane,rice,had lost control/momentum of the game CES isnt seriously sugggesting that by taking 2 or 3 of them off and replacing them with gall,watlins,palmer,eze etcwould have changed the game in 20 mins as subs,if so they should be starting

Its theory but to be fair Cesc has won a couple of euros and a world cup. He said bringing on defensive players sends adefensive message but not sure he was saying the opposite is true though (i agree putting 6 up front doesnt suddenly swing the team back onto confidence mode)
I agree Bellingham may be destabilising things. Some players need to boss everyone else around to give themselves confidence but we need those four or five key players at their best and not just one - Bellingham needs to be aware of that to some extent but its up to individuals to work out how they are going to play better in the next game

It's Southgate. I'd say Bellingham is given freedom to roam all the way into the box and the likes of Saka, Foden aren't because they have to man the wings and help the FB on their side. When he brings on defensive players he's changing tactics to close the game out. Southgate is sending the players that message because they are his tactics and the players know this before the match.
The guy is very defensively minded and one goal is always enough for him. Croatia and Italy sensed that and you could see the equalisers in those games coming a mile off. I'm not sure his defence is as strong this time and his midfield isn't protecting it as much either.

What we've learned thus far from this tournament is that England are at least 3rd favourites behind Germany and Spain.
mbappe needs to turn up where Lukaku and Kane havent.

It's a two way street; some of England's best players are developing under managers more distinguished than Southgate. They will have their say if England falter. Fortunately, Denmark are next up and the next match is not critical. In fact, it may help in England stall.

I don’t agree with the pundits in TAA. I would rather have a midfielder in there like Mainoo. Not seen much of Wharton but I think he might also be the type of player the midfield needs. Too many players. Just pick the best in each position.
Wharton has potential to join it all up with his passing.
