don't know how you can have all those years of coaching experience and end up with just 30% of the ball and almost 400 less passes than the opposition - at home, against a team of similar size and expenditure, if Moyes was brave with his set up, his teams will be dangerous, he rarely let's them off the leash like he did against Freiburg.
Possession football is not our game and thank goodness too. If you enjoy the play it out from the back sideways backwards game then Villa is your team.

I rate Moyes, think West Ham are lucky to have someone who's got them to 3 European quarters in a row and much further up the table, but he is painfully pragmatic at times, he has some really good players, the way they played against Freiburg was brilliant to watch that attacking football, they can win the Europa with the players they have imo but not if they put the handbrake on, the second leg just gone was a case of needs must, Moyes's default setting is sit back and wait to counter, reactive rather than proactive

Freiburg are nowhere near as good as Villa and with such a small squad we can't afford to throw caution to the wind. Our improvement in the last 4 years or more justifies the tactics and I don't want to see another Pellegrini who was brought in last time to replace Moyes and plunged us into the relegation struggle yet again.

We hunted like pack of wolves Played fantastic football on front foot Second half he reverted back to type, sat on a pen box Gave 3 point away We had that game by bollox And surrendered it in the second half **** var musks Moyes being useless **** that won’t let play Front foot attacking football which works better for us Cos we can’t defend 30% football Stats bzck that today Stats in burnley game other week another tale of too half’s We look dangerous going forward Sit back look ****

I think par is 7th or 8th and can understand some of the fanbase wanting better football at home against teams lesser or equal to them...but none of my business at the end of the day..on here like everyone I'll add it though...

Moyes just has to understand that attacking IS defending, further ball is away from your own goal the better, camping deep in your own half against multi million pound teams is not a good tactic in this day and age.

What I've learnt watching West Ham over the years was that you win nothing if you can't defend properly and attacking is not the be all and end all and far from it.

very true sparrow, and I think that side of the game doesn't always get the appreciation at any club..
but still West Ham even in my lifetime have a great rep for attractive football..the feeling I guess (and I don't see enough of your games to have a strong view) is that they have enough quality to play more on the front foot in some games where he chooses not to..
if gets top 8 come the end of the season he's probably done ok especially with some Euro fun..
Spurs fans wanted Conte out...record wise no that different to Big Ange but a better watch...can always end in tears though.

That reputation for attractive football came in the 1960s along with Moore, Hurst, Peters etc. but the reality was we never once in that decade challenged for the league because Greenwood the manager never bothered about defenders. Bobby Moore made the point in his book and I was there watching throughout that period and it was heartbreaking giving away goals after scoring great ones ourselves. The best team we ever had came in the mid 80s but was broken up after one excellent season.

Moyes does a decent job, west ham have some excellent exciting players, who don't really want a slow build up.
Maybe slow build up and possession is better for points gained but can kill the joy out of the game.
Far rather watch kudus than tika taka

Rather watch anything than tika taka the most boring of all tactics but West Ham have come a long way in the past 3 years or so and I for one don't want to go back to the Pellegrini etc. days of fighting relegation every year.

that's the point with Moyes, he's a good manager, but he has a higher ceiling and it just seems like he wont push though it, they literally have the players to take games to teams, they shouldn't be having 30% of the ball and home against Villa and make 400 less passes near enough.

But it's 600 sideways passes, that 1/ stack up your team passes and 2/ restrict the time oppos have ball.
West ham more direct, so less passes and possession
But you could set different standards and have meaningful passes and possession...
Looking forward to West ham visiting sjp, been good games of late...

Going forward we have some good players but we are weak defensively and there is a need to protect. You don't get anywhere if you can't defend as the majority of seasoned West Ham fans know only too well but time will tell as to what will happen in the future.

It's a balance, isn't it, with 11 players you can't be expansive, and defend well.
Pretty much what Southgate is proving with England.
Brazil 1970 did it, but not seen too many since...

On talent West Ham are about the 9th best team in the league
England have the No.1 team IMO, but 2 holding midfielders, formation with 8 players behind the ball most of the time, unless they are losing
