Everton and Forest board members ringing up the premier league today to ask how is this acceptable?

Who else is going to post a big loss on their accounts?

Which other clubs in the last 3yrs has had a big net spend?

Newcastle have said they can’t spend because of the rules.

Which other clubs have had big outlays and couldn’t spend in January! Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea even though the last mentioned sold a lot of players to the Saudi empire to balance their books.

Was reported back in December that there was 3 more teams to be investigated. Clearly forest and now Villa will be investigated. So who is the last one?

Arsenal?

Villa's losses appear to be within the ffp rules though, so what's the problem ?
Report s.kenbo March 5, 2024 9:34 AM GMT
Google says £105m loss is the cap over three years. If that’s right, it seems poor management to be over by so little if heavy penalties could be imposed. The sale of an unwanted player could balance that.
Report BULLET TOOTH TONY March 5, 2024 10:14 AM GMT
119m in a year can be offset if the other 2 profitable, but then the goalposts move, so they will need to sell to make profit needed to keep below the threshold.

Don’t think it’s arsenal they only posted 58m loss I believe on last books issued.

Ollie Watkins I guess will be sold in the summer unless they win European trophy and qualify for champs league

Yes it's a 3 year rolling period, so you might be ok this year but will run into problems next year or in 2 years.

Everton seem to be in trouble again for the same problems as last year. The procedure has been fast-tracked and appeals are due to be heard within a few days of the end of the season, so presumably they should have any points deductions applied this season and not next. Can't see Everton being sanctioned twice in the same season (or possibly at all) for essentially the same spending. They sold Gordon for big money and improved their finances a good bit but still fell foul. It might have a lot to do with wages as it's very hard to get rid of those players who won't get the same wages elsewhere. Forest I can see being sanctioned in the same way Everton were, not so sure about Everton as they will be victims of the procedure being fast-tracked this season if they are sanctioned again this season. Forest's cap is reduced somewhat because they were in the champ for some of the 3 year period.

It's not the same spending its a different 3 year period albeit 1 of
the years rolls over and new one added.

Try going down the bank and saying I'm only overdrawn
today because of spending 2 and a half years ago
so can I have a refund on my overdraft fees for this year...

Lol

Tony, champs league money wouldn't kick in in time to have any impact on this year's profit/loss and there is more chance of me playing for the villa then there is of Watkins being sold this summer.
Report lurka March 6, 2024 11:29 AM GMT
It essentially is the same spending as they reduced their wage bill and got big money in for Gordon last season, ie made things better significantly but it still wasn't enough. Of course they may be sanctioned again despite all this, but if the current charges are penalised this season, I can't see them getting penalised a second time in the same season for essentially the same thing when they've tried their best. Forest should be tho. I am assuming here that the new charges will be penalised this season rather than next, which is why the procedure was fast-tracked AFAIK. It would be unfair to Everton to do that as they are victims of the change to fast-track, whereas everyone else penalised two years in a row would be penalised in two separate seasons.

It is nigh on impossible for these teams to correct things in one season. The first players you should get rid of are the least marketable because nobody will pay them the same wages. They are not going to take a pay cut to move. If you pay them a lump to leave that only makes things worse in the current period. You have to sell your best and most valuable players, often young homegrown players like Gordon, which Everton did. They might need to get rid of Branthwaite next.

They didn't reduce it enough

They knew the rules and thought they could bend them again

We shall see.

You suggest you can spend a billion this season take
6 points next season and enjoy benefits in following
years with impunity.

It doesn't work like that.
Report Crisp77 March 6, 2024 12:51 PM GMT
Unai Emery going to get lots of plaudits but the is the 10th highest spending coach over the last ten years. Expect him to leave if the taps get turned off.
Report Busvaldo March 6, 2024 12:53 PM GMT
Amortization is probably key to this..
Report leif March 6, 2024 2:41 PM GMT
Some of the overspend can be written off if they've invested in infrastruscture and various other elements.
Read somewhere that overall loss is stripped back to around 80 million after exceptions.
They need to be careful though. Champions League football would do them the world of good should they hit the top four places.

Villa in the Champions League would be like seeing Al Pacino on Coronation Street. Crazy

Where exactly did I suggest that?

Did you read the bit where I said they may get sanctioned again? Just not likely in the same season as that would be solely due to the change to fast-track. They might sanction Forest and Everton but postpone Everton's until next season and apply Forest's to this season. That would be fair. Applying two sanctions to the same season for Everton would be completely unjust and would result in a legal case Everton would likely win.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- March 7, 2024 9:36 PM GMT
You are making up arguments and judging them yourself.

Opinions are fine, but the whole isea of delayed sanctions to
this season, are already likely to cause legal action
to those who suffered relegation last season due
to the delay.

Leicester may well be promoted and now they have
a season in championship in their 3 year rollover.

They won't be chuffed if delay in Everton sanction
has led to that.

So Everton may have to ride 2 horses in 2 races and
argue a different case in each.

The football administration is at fault, and ffp will
not stand up as being fair.

Hey ho, we are at where we are.
Report lurka March 8, 2024 8:19 AM GMT
I'm not making up arguments. If one club were to have two points deductions for two separate 3 year periods applied in the same season that would be clearly unfair if other clubs will not. They would be victims of an administrative change to how quickly penalties are applied, whereas other clubs wouldn't be. You have to treat all clubs the same.

Leicester 'won't be chuffed'? Maybe not but it's not Everton's fault that the process at the time was only concluded long after the start of this season. They have changed the rules since but if they apply two sanctions to Everton in the same season for two different periods they will be sanctioning them in a way other clubs won't be, purely because their breaches occurred around the time they changed to fast-track and that is clearly unfair to one club only. Everyone else gets sanctions for separate periods applied in separate seasons except Everton. That would be ridiculous.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- March 8, 2024 2:22 PM GMT
Why would it be unfair, unfortunate maybe, but if they hadn't obfuscated
then they may have had deduction last season and would gone down.

Can their accountancy team not count?
