It's odd because we are football mad and 96-2006 was peak football in this country

We only seem interested in England and that's it

Hopefully with it being UK wide with Ireland thrown init'll be a good competitive atmosphere
Report scandanavian_haven October 11, 2023 1:11 AM BST
I remember the England games being quite dull apart from the 4-1 thrashing of Holland.

Scotland, Swiss, Spain games, all dull, but the 3 Lions on a shirt anthem and advancement of the team plus being in England, gave off the impression on reflection it was a wonderful time, but the games were forgettable really.
Report SontaranStratagem October 11, 2023 1:12 AM BST
Throw in Gazza needing another inch on his stud and it was almost a final
Report scandanavian_haven October 11, 2023 1:15 AM BST
I too think it's a bit lame having the tournament in  the UK in 2028, who really wants to go to Sunderland, Tottenham (which is a bleak area even if the stadium is good) and Liverpool, you wanna go to your travels to the continent for the experience. Do they still hang their washing out on lines crossing the street up north?
Report scandanavian_haven October 11, 2023 1:16 AM BST
Rafa Nadal's uncle missed a pen for Spain against England, fun factGrin

I did enjoy Qatar to be fair

I think having it in places like that is good for the competitive nature
Report scandanavian_haven October 11, 2023 1:23 AM BST
Who qualifies as host by the way, England, Scotland, Wales and both Irelands?
Report SontaranStratagem October 11, 2023 1:27 AM BST
Only two spots allowed so it's up to the host nations to decide

Id personally give NI and Ireland the automatic spots
Report SontaranStratagem October 11, 2023 1:30 AM BST
The FA are apparently keen to remain competitive and go through qualifying
Report scandanavian_haven October 11, 2023 7:43 PM BST
England's qualifying groups are never competitive, they might as well take the free berth if they can.

Was in Berlin and Dortmund for the 2006 World Cup - was one of the best trips of my life. Managed to see two games, (which were not great) but the atmosphere around the place and meeting football fans from around the world was amazing. Loved it. Agree with others - experiencing the tournament in another country is the way to go. Germany a great country to visit besides football too. My mate and I will be going for 4-5 days for this tourney too. Promised my son we will be in the US for the 2026 world cup as they will put on a show too for sure.

That's a shame.

Still got the option of the first come first served when they release tickets people haven't paid for and not taken up. Looks like that will be after the play offs. Probably worth while logging in to the ticket portal anytime on here betting and just having the window open as tickets jiust seem to be uploaded at any point then when they're gone they're gone.

It's difficult to know how easy tickets will be to buy/transer from a stranger in the week before given they are all e tickets in an app now. I've never used tickets solely used on an app before.
Report Mexico January 28, 2024 11:33 PM GMT
UEFA will have a resale platform opening in a couple of months, will be a few on that , especially the cat1,cat2 ones.

Not sure when/how the tickets will be released for games where the teams haven’t sold their 10,000 allocation.

The resale platform will be worth looking at when get to knockout games. People will have tickets hoping their team are involved & sell them when in a different city or knocked out.

Was in Germany for 2006. Even if you don’t have a match ticket it will be fun. The fan parks were well organised.

Group winners, runners-up and the best four third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16.

Tiebreakers

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:[63]

    Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
    Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;
    Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
    If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams who are still level to determine their final rankings.[a] If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 10 will apply;
    Superior goal difference in all group matches;
    Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
    If on the last round of the group stage, two teams who are facing each other are tied in points, goal difference and goals scored then they drew their match, their ranking is determined by a penalty shoot-out. (This criterion is not used if more than two teams had the same number of points.);
    Lower disciplinary points total in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
    Higher position in the European Qualifiers overall ranking, unless the comparison involves hosts Germany, in which case a drawing of lots will take place.

I like to try and find one around those prices. It’s almost impossible though.

I remember backing Jackson Martinez for Columbia at huge odds for the Golden Boot at The World Cup. I thought they had a fairly easy draw. My bet flopped badly but an unknown teammate of his called James Rodriguez won it! He did pretty well for himself after that. It always felt like a near miss bet to me!

Jota around 40/1 is great I think. Scores bundles in the prem when fit, and he should get enough minutes in the group stages to score a a few
Report mesmerised June 12, 2024 8:18 PM BST
Whoever gave those tips from SportingLife should give his head a wobble, the worst bet I've seen so far at least in regards to the Turk.

Calhanoglu is purely a Defensive Midfielder for Turkey, that's what he did not score a single or nor provide a single assist in Turkey's qualifying campaign, and he was there 2nd most used player in terms of minutes played. It's at Inter Milan where he scores goals with the regista position he's been given, hence Inter's second top scorer. The journo must have seen Calhanoglu score the consolation goal against in the Austria friendly recently where they were battered 1-6 and thought he was on to something, would not back with counterfeit.

Hasn't done his homework on Shaqiri either, whilst a better option than the Turk, the Swiss manager recently said they have to be careful with Shaqiri because he can't play 90 minutes twice in 4 days, Switzerland have 3 games in 9 days. Don't fancy backing a Golden boot winner who'll probably play 65 minutes max in any game he plays

Those odds should be the other way around.

Kind Regards.
