So tense, so atmospheric and very clever.

Notable that Staeve Zaillian who directed it was also screenwriter for the  equally excellent 'The Night Of' as was talked about much earlier in this thread.

6 episodes out of 10 into Day of the Jackal on Sky. Original book by Frederick Forsythe was a great read followed by a brilliant movie of the same name. I watched and read both. This has absolutely no comparison with the originals except by name which it is using for exploitation purposes. However it is a watchable thriller if you don't want to have to think too much and just admire the excellent sound-track. Just p!ssed off that they felt the need to hijack FF's great work and movie. But hey-ho 5.5 out of 10 for effort so far - 4 episodes to go mind

The best scene of all time is Crowes character coming back from the coliseum to 100s of men chanting his name with fists drawn

"Maximus maximus maximus maximus"

Can you imagine the feeling of having that welcome after battling to the death ...

If you like American Football, then I can highly recommend the Netflix Series 'Quarterback' - They take three Quarterbacks in the 2022 season, including the superb Mahomes, and follow them everywhere, including in-game microphones, the first time the NFL have ever allowed this. A very watchable insight into the ups and downs of a quarterback over a full season - 8/10

I came across a TV film available to download on the BBC last night called THREADS, made in 84 and with many familiar tv faces from the past 40 years it depicts the build up to and then the actual nuclear attack on Britain and the aftermath initially in the immediate and then long term, very grim indeed and yes, you really would not want to be one of the unlucky survivors, here's a bit of the wiki blurb

Shot on a budget of £400,000 (equivalent to £1,290,611 in 2023), the film was the first of its kind to depict a nuclear winter. It has been called "a film which comes closest to representing the full horror of nuclear war and its aftermath, as well as the catastrophic impact that the event would have on human culture."[3] It has been compared to the earlier Academy Award-winning programme The War Game (1966) produced in the United Kingdom two decades prior and its contemporary counterpart The Day After, a 1983 ABC television film depicting a similar scenario in the United States. It was nominated for seven BAFTA awards in 1985 and won for Best Single Drama, Best Design, Best Film Cameraman, and Best Film Editor.
Report duffy November 25, 2024 4:45 PM GMT
I'm pushing this oneGrin

Retrospective reviews have been very positive. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 92 based on 5 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim",[39] whilst it has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% based on 10 reviews (with an average score of 8.90/10). The critical consensus reads: "An urgent warning against nuclear conflict, Threads is a chilling hypothetical that achieves visceral horror with its matter-of-fact presentation of an apocalypse".[34]
