Just watched Bibaa and Nicole on Sky Docs about those two ladies who were stabbed to death in a park in London and the Police misconduct that took forever to even begin to look for them that culminated in the family going out to look and the boyfriend actually discovering the bodies.

Then two officers who were supposed to be protecting the scene and bodies taking pictures of them and sharing to a private group online....shocking stuff and the eventual apprehension of the murderer....3 episodes.

House is fantastic. Hugh Laurie absolutely nails it.

House is brilliant, hard to argue with that but, for me, it became monotonous and only managed about 4, maybe 5 seasons.

Just finished the first series of Andor

Now, I was a Star Wars nut as a kid. And I made a point of going to the cinema to watch the newer three to re-live those days. But I wouldn't say I'm a Star Wars nut now. Tried the Ben Kenobi one and found it dull and I think they've generally wrung it out.

But Andor is way different imo. It's very human. It's a galaxy where the force and jedis and light sabres aren't mentioned or seen. It's a prequel to the Rogue One film, which I think is the best of them and is genuinely a great film. But this is also great. It's essentially a heist and jailbreak series, but with lots of petty politics and the mundane realities of trying to start and finance a rebellion while the authorities are becoming ever more draconian.

Just started series 2 which seems to be going even more recognisable for people of the world today. And it's a big thumbs up from me. You don't need to like Star Wars to enjoy this.

Anyway, the final instalments of the best series I've ever seen on the telly start this week-end.

I refer of course to The Handmaid's TaleCoolCool

.........................................

It took me a whole season to be totally convinced but now a few episodes into season 2 I'm hooked. Elisabeth Moss exceptional as she was in Mad Men.
If you like your tv..... Grim, harrowing, cruel, with just a flicker of hope then look no further. Its a tough watch. Enjoy/Endure Scared

"Mr. Inbetween " is the absolute nuts and up there with the very best of series in recent years. I'm giving it a very worthy 9.5/10.

In other news (please don't laugh) but I shelled out a score to watch D.Dyer in " Marching Powder. " I was pressurised, it's a long story, into doing so.

Just started Handmaid's Tale too. I think I did most of the first season a few years ago but it was just too grim.

My one question is - are all the seasons just based on the one book? I've got it on my shelf and it's on my list to read soon, but it's not the weightiest tome, and doesn't seem six series worth.

Severance is funny at times, but too much of a slog to watch more than about 4 episodes. Silo is slow and nothing much happens, had to give up after 3 eps. From is weird but addictive. Reacher is quite ridiculous (I've watched the first two seasons) and the lead character is extremely wooden. I'll probably keep watching for mindless entertainment though.

I watched The Thin Red Line which is streaming on Disney+ atm.  Has an all star cast.  Woody Harrelson, Nick Nolte, Sean Penn, John Travolta.  Some people rave about it but I just think it's OK.  It reminded me of Spielberg's series "The Pacific" which I think is excellent.

Woody Harrelson - another who I just can't watch with any enthusiasm.  Certainly can't be calling him a star.  Just my opinion.
And agreed, Cruise was surprisingly good in Rain Man but I just watched A Few Good Men and it was like man against a boy - Nicholson v Cruise.  The gulf in real acting ability and star presence was glaring for me.
Still Tom keeps laughing all the way to the bank, as we used to say.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 31, 2025 6:06 PM BST
Tom Cruise is actually a good actor. He's just spent the last ten years playing Peter Pan and trying to prove he can do mad stunts while in his eighties.

Watched Trainspotting 2 the other day. Seen it before but wanted to check it out again.

Firstly, got to say it's worth it just for the scene in the social club. That's just a great few minutes. But I don't think I've seen any sequel that spends such a high percentage of its time simply replaying scenes from the first film or at least making such overt nods back. Just felt like little more than a nostalgia-fest for fans of the original rather than any real progressing of the story.
Report s.kenbo May 31, 2025 6:52 PM BST
Nicholson stole the show in a Few Good Men. His ‘You can’t handle the truth’ line is the first that springs to mind when you hear the film mentioned.

It was Dustin Hoffman who stole the show in Rain Man.

There is some really good sports docs all under the name of "untold", some american stuff that would have gone under the radar to most of us. There was one called Johnny Football about a high school quarter back who was destined for the big time in the NFL and ended up p!ssing it all away - quiet entertaining.

Really enjoyed it. It's a cop show set in Scotland, but it's probably most similar in tone to Slow Horses. Misfit team lead by an irrascible boss, lots of backstory and multiple overlapping cases. It doesn't drag in the middle, writing is great and the cast are all relatable. Recommend.
