Loads and loads of 6/10 bands. Got to be The Smiths though.
Joy division were/are a top band, still sounds good.
New Order, Oasis, The Charlatans, Electronic, Inspiral Carpets, The Fall, James, Happy Mondays...
Manchester, so much to answer for...
Few of the bands mentioned here are from Manchester.
Despite having lived in Surrey for 43 years because of my accent when I meet a fellow Northerner they sometimes ask me where I am from. I tell them Salford, just across the Irwell from Manchester. Often they'll say they are from Manchester. When I ask which part of Manchester they will say Stockport (Cheshire), Warrington (Merseyside) Oldham, Bolton, Darwin, or Burnley (Lancashire)
Btw Morrissey dreams of being born in Salford.
