Having watched two horrendous clashes of heads in the 1st few matches of the World Cup caused by Goalkeepers flattening their own team mates, I can't help but think perhaps there needs to be a rule change.
Sometimes at corners and free kicks there can be as many as 16 players converging towards the 6 yard box which must restrict the view of the goalkeeper as he rushes out in an attempt to catch/punch the ball.
Both of these collisions were horrendous, with last night's defender totally poleaxed and appearing to have lost a lot of teeth and possibly other injuries.
The force at which these players are colliding with no head protection makes me think that it's only a matter of time before someone gets a broken neck and possible paralysis. The rewards in football are now so great that imo footballers are taking far to great a risk to get to the ball. Perhaps a limit on the number of players who are allowed in the penalty area at corners and free kicks would help, not only that but the endless holding/pushing/pulling is a poor spectacle and a nightmare for the referee.

I agree. It is impossible to judge who is fouling who especially with players who are looking to go down and on the other side defenders who don't even look at the ball. Not sure what the answer is Den.

stewarts rise a great post!

How about abolish corners and replace with throw-ins only?

Some players can throw a ball from the corner into the 6 yd box so same problem . What about no player allowed in the are except the goalie . . Easier to see blocking and diving  because it will all be on one line ?

'Corners' taken from the sideline 18 yards out

Use the same criteria as Rugby. If you cause an opposing player to land on his head or shoulder, it is a yellow or red card. The head collisions are  difficult to avoid.

How about playing it like a short corner in Hockey? where the ball is placed where the edge of the box meets the touchline, the defenders all line up in the goalmouth, and the attacking players all line up outside the box

where there is more info coming out about heading the ball and long term head/memory injuries, and people being encouraged to head the ball less, it could be a possible solution

So, both teams run full tilt at one another? That should help.

How about leaving it as it is and send the keeper off for serious foul play.

That would be England stuffed then.

How many corners actually beat the first man these days?

Getting a corner and packing the box is the whole idea.
Good to see an opposing keeper come up when his team
needs a goal in injury time.

A line where 8 yards from the penalty box the ball is on the ground only if it goes above chest high .. name taken yellow card ..  no throw ins only a kick instead also to chest  height ONLY  ..  . help ball players and have to play more as a team ..literally stops  high balls in opposition half . V.A.R.  to address offside .. same as ball  .THE  BALL HAS TO BE ALL OVER TO BE   OUT ...  existing throw ins  ... THE  ..whole body of attacker needs to be clearly ahead for offside decision .  the attackers ahead of opposition chest  or ..back ..? depending on what way defender finds himself .DAYLIGHT could be used also for  maximum help for the attacker again a V.A.R.  decision ..   ,, goalkeepers wasting time to be sorted .  falling on ball for a bit before getting back on his feet ..  NAUGHTY .??  Substitute .. NO Longer wasting time to leave playing area .  NAUGHTY . ?? Spanish  are very bad at time wasting .. NO MORE HEADING THE BALL AT ALL   ,,Name of the game  .FOOTBALL     YES    FOOTBALL .. LETS GO  ..  QUICKER GAME 45 MINS ALL USED IN 45 MINS .. WOULD BE WORTH  WATCHING .. MORE SKILL WOULD BE ACHIEVED FOR SURE ..  Ball on Park Longer . . V.A.R. must get the action report instantly as  same as the REFEREE only sees   it once .. LESS STICK FOR REFEREE  more work for his fellow assistants .. including linesman .. MOSTLY TO IMPROVE THE GAME WE LOVE  ..  That we have unfortunately lost    YES   ,,lost .    too much DINERO IN WORLD MARKETS ..  it is still going on ..  Never stop it now    too late  .. OR IS IT  FANS RULE .. OUR CLUBS . NO MATTER THE BUYERS ..  think .???    no more HEADERS . CHEERS .... HAVE A GREAT WORLD CUP   TALL ORDER  ,, but all the above will help the UK game .,

I knew Ronnie Allen of WBA and was very sad how he went from being a very good centre forward and manager with a great knowledge of the game and tactics etc to a shambling man who did not know that he'd left the Albion and kept turning up everyday, he ended up in a nursing home with his room done out as the Albion dressing room with his No 9 shirt on a peg, very sad, that was just from heading, same as Jeff Astle and Chris Nicoll and so many others. 2 players colliding head on at full pelt in the head has to be stopped somehow.
