One of the very best commentators from a golden era ,  the voice of Kick Off and Granada football on a Sunday in the 70s.

I stand corrected elis. It was Hugh Johns (with the big coat) in the midlands. Must  have been world of sport cutting to him. Happy

on sundays when i was a kid we always used to visit my gran in norris green liverpool. my dads family were liverpool fans and my mums family were evertonians.

we all sat down to watch sunday football on itv and gerald was invarably commentating on a NWest big game. We all enjoyed listening to his impatial and informative commentary as well as his distinctive voice.

it brings back memories of real football and days when football was about local commumties and football for what it was ,, fantastic entertainment and something that got into you phsyci and your emotions.

A great commentator and a sad loss. glad he lived to a grand age and thanks for the memories u gave us all.

Sadly all of both sides of that generation have now passe away but it wsa good while it lasted and at the time!!!
