Imagine they get relegated and then spend £300M in the summer. What price would they be for Championship?

How does 'building from scratch' suit Mourinho? He expects to have almost everything in place drones day one. Better for all concerned that he won't be going there. Three months of his moaning and blame shifting and the Saudis would be reaching for the bone saws.

Report DanielKoellerer November 3, 2021 1:39 PM GMT
Foreign manager bias is incredible.

Reality is Howe took Bournemouth from league 2 to the premier league in about 5/6 seasons. He then guided Bournemouth with a defence of Charlie Daniels, Steve Cook et al to mid-table finishes (or just below) for 5 seasons, all while playing good football.

Some bad recruitment and a bad final season is all he is remembered for by some mugs.

If his name was Jorge Ruiz with a slick back haircut, and a Portuguese passport (who'd achieved those things) - he'd be at United already, or at least Spurs.
Report DanielKoellerer November 3, 2021 1:40 PM GMT
And anybody who disagrees with that - have a look at sh1tters like Claude Puel getting the Leicester job, or Marco Silva getting the Everton job. Farcical.

Or even Nuno to Spurs. Howe has achieved much more than him. Ok a couple of top half finishes with wolves, and a promotion, on the back of loads of Championship investment. Plays crap football too. But... he's Portuguese and has a foreign sounding name - SIGN HIM UP.

Emery was fantastic at Le Arse.

Eddie Howe did a great job at Bournemouth.

Appointing Sam would be hilarious after all the hype, even Ashley wouldn't have him. But top managers won't want to go into a relegation battle where they'd not be able to spend their way out til the season is more than halfway done.

Sam still has this reputation of being ready every autumn to 'save' some club. But when did he last do that? Great work at Palace but he left 4 and a half years ago. Achieved nothing at Everton and West Brom just flatlined.
Report Racingqueen November 3, 2021 3:02 PM GMT
Howe is a no brainer. Was amazing at Bournemouth and what he did was above what normal coach would do.

For Howe, its a no brainer as well.

If they go down, he will not be blamed and is well suited to manage a team in the championship. He may never get a chance like this again.
With a good DOF bringing in better quality players, this could be the making of him and could turn out to be a long term appointment.

Thank the lord it wasn't Martinez/Fonseca getting it

It was either him of Favre who deserved it.

Was surprised by the Unai link as I wouldn't have expected a CL manager to be in the running but think potentially Howe could turn out a shrewd appointment.
Club need to get better football structure in place at board level (DOF etc..) and need major scouting overhaul before any big buys start (2/3 seasons time)

When you dig into Howes transfer record, its actually much better than it sounds.

Even the suppose failures end up being sold for more than they were bought. The supposed failures like Solanke are now coming good and I can see him having a great season next year if BMouth get promoted or he will get a move to a premier league club.

The comment about his time at Burnley is interesting because even though it wasn't a major success, his transfers provided the main basis of success for Dyche to get them promoted

Trippier, Voles, Ings, Junior Stanislas & Ben Mee were all brought to Burnley during Howes time there

Report lurka November 5, 2021 12:34 AM GMT
I'd have thought Howe would be a risky appointment given Newcastle's squad and position. But I suppose you wouldn't say Newcastle's squad is worse than Bournemouth's and with some spending in January he should be OK. The amount of goals his Bournemouth side leaked would be a worry, often conceded more than relegated teams. But on the upside he'll have a lot more to spend than he did previously - interesting to see how well he does with a decent budget behind him.
