They’ll go for a fancy sounding foreigner.

Fonseca or Favre.

Free agent (21.0) and international manager (13.0)

Get on.

Cool Laying off time I'd think.

Market InformationFor further information please see Rules & Regs.Who will be appointed as the next first team manager of the named club by the specified date?
FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT SHOULD THE NAMED CLUB NOT CHANGE THEIR MANAGER BY THE SPECIFIED DATE THEN THIS MARKET WILL BE SETTLED AS 'NO MANAGERIAL CHANGE'.

IF ON THE SPECIFIED DATE THE POSITION IS VACANT OR THE CURRENT FIRST TEAM MANAGER IS DESCRIBED BY THE NAMED CLUB AS ‘INTERIM’, ‘CARETAKER’, ‘TEMPORARY’ (INCLUDING AN APPOINTMENT DESCRIBED AS ‘TO THE END OF THE SEASON’) OR SIMILAR, THE MARKET WILL REMAIN OPEN BEYOND THE STATED DATE. THE MARKET WILL THEN BE SETTLED AS THE INDIVIDUAL APPOINTED AS FIRST TEAM MANAGER OR THE INDIVIDUAL WHO MEETS THE CRITERIA AS STATED BELOW.

1. Subject to paragraph 2, an appointment described by the named club as ‘interim’, ‘caretaker’, ‘temporary’ (including an appointment described as ‘to the end of the season’) or similar, will not constitute first team manager.

2. Notwithstanding paragraph 1, an individual appointed by the named club on an ‘interim’, ‘caretaker’, ‘temporary’ (including an appointment described as ‘to the end of the season’) or similar basis who remains manager in that capacity for at least 10 completed consecutive Domestic League games (including over the course of more than a single season), will be considered to have been appointed as the next first team manager for the purpose of this market and Betfair will settle the market accordingly on that person.

3. The actual duration of the manager’s contract will not be relevant for the purpose of this market.

4. This market will be settled using official information provided by the named club. Betfair will not be under any obligation to contact the named club for confirmation regarding the nature of the appointment. Betfair reserves the right to wait for further official announcements before the market is settled.

5. In the event that the named club change the structure of their management team and do not call the appointed individual first team manager, Betfair will settle the market on the individual who is responsible for picking the first team. In the event of any ambiguity over the appointment, Betfair may determine using its reasonable discretion how to settle the market based on all the information available to it at the relevant time.

6. Betfair will NOT be responsible for suspending the market when an official announcement is made by the named club. However, Betfair will suspend the market as soon as it becomes aware of an official announcement by the named club. Customers are responsible for all bets placed on this market at ALL times. Runners will be added on request subject to Betfair’s absolute discretion.

7. Betfair expressly reserves the right to suspend and/or void any and all bets on this market at any time in the event that Betfair is not satisfied (in its absolute discretion) with the certainty of the outcome.

appointing Fonseca could be a disaster. He is an attacking coach with no great record. He was supposedly overlooked for the Spurs job cos he had a poor defensive record.

Toon need a defensive coach ffs

crystal clear

anyone in a caretaker temp capacity will be determined the winner if they manage for 10 games if the appointment is not a permanent one

Lucien Favre would be the best bet of the mob in contention.

Gerrard has done a good job at Ibrox, recruiting on the cheap and building a makeshift side capable of challenging for the title.  Indeed Celtic were so bad last season he managed to get Sevco to a record-breaking title win.  Will the new manager get pots of dough to buy with?  If not immediately he could be the man for the job, given a chance in the short term to impress.  At the moment we can't forecast anything other than this - Newcastle will have to make do with what they;ve got until January, and the end of January at that.  That will be very frustrating for whoever comes in.

He has won 1 trophy in 12 at Ibrox domestically. Great Eh ?

if toon were serious, paying off Rafa or Joses contract would be the best investment they could make.

Agreed, it is not good but it is one more than every successive Newcastle manager has won in the last 50 years.

Owners wanted a Premier League Club, any one would do, they went with the one where two things had to be in place:

1. Current owner is despised...a few clubs tick that box

2. They would be confident that 90% of the fans would support them and that's where Newcastle get the pick.

Problem is that unlike in other take overs this one sees the club already in a perilous position and unlike with let's say City as an example this shower have already shown that they don't really look like they know what they are doing.

Don't get too carried away Toon fans, this has all the makings of one almighty sh1t show

Fonseca drifted a bit.

Looking at "the athletic" study
of him on YouTube he seems a
decent coach, quite a bit ahead
of other candidates, but,....

Fonseca? Every manager does well at Shakhtar Donetsk, they've won 13 of the last 21 league titles in the Ukraine, when he took over there he was the replacement for the best manager they ever had, Losescu, who left Fonseca with a title winning team. Poor choice imo.

very poor. hoping its wrong.

Mourinho would be a great statement and cant coach players to defend which is badly what this team need.
His statement today only confirms to me he'd love the job. it would be perfect for him as he is brilliant at building teams (rather than taking over finished teams)

Im worried Amanda is a bit of a bluffer and appointing Fonseca does nothing to change my mind

Fonseca was chucked out of the Spurs running as he was too attack minded. He achieved nothing of note at Roma.

He was spouting in some interview some rubbish about how attacking football is his way and he will attack against everyone and won't defend  on the edge of the box against City etc...

He sounds like a complete bluffer ala Villas Boas.

If Newcastle try to attack and do nothing about defensive organisation, they will go down...they have 7 games left against the top 4 and have 3 points ffs

Morp I think Jones said 2 games.

Rumour was 3,could well turn out to be 3.

You'd need 10 to get paid.

Wrinkly Alex snapped to the
70 on here seemingly.

3 should get a good trade.

I'm loving all these rumours and theories; top and bottom of it is; the new owners haven't decided who is going to take the job and when they decide; it will be settled before anyone has the chance to capitalise on it.

Keep them coming Laugh

Get it right morp. Worth a few weeks.

Clearly there are leaks though,

Such as Jones getting 3 games
which he later confirms, even
though its now stated as 2.

If they appoint Fonseca or that absolute bluffer Martinez, Toon are going down

How the f**k Roberto gets these jobs is nuts. He got Wigan relegated and was woeful at Everton

I chuckle at how the talking heads in the media think they need someone with relegation experience......There was me thinking relegation experience was a sign of a 5hit manager.

One outside chance appointment would Keegan on a temp basis till end of the season.

fans would be behind him even if they have a bad run of form between now and Christmas. Left on bad terms last time and what better way to sign off than keeping his beloved club in the premier league
