Players from all 20 Premier League clubs will continue to take the knee before matches this season to highlight their opposition to racism.

The Premier League say they "support wholeheartedly" the decision that has been made.

A 'No Room For Racism' sleeve badge will also be worn by players and match officials on their shirts.

The opening game of the new season sees newly promoted Brentford take on Arsenal on Friday, 13 August.

I thought Brentford were saying no Confused

If they've changed their minds then that tells me the Premier League have pulled rank and it's not the club's decision at all.
Report Angoose August 3, 2021 5:50 PM BST
In a statement, the players said: "We feel now, more than ever, it is important for us to continue to take the knee as a symbol of our unity against all forms of racism.

"We remain resolutely committed to our singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect and equal opportunities for all."

In February, Brentford announced they would no longer be participating in the gesture as the West London club felt it no longer had the required impact.

However, it is understood Brentford players have agreed to take part.
Report Angoose August 3, 2021 6:12 PM BST
Personally, I think it's time to find a new way of getting the message across.
The misunderstandings around the gesture deflect from its intent.

Equal opportunities for all?
Does that include white people who have had to contend with 'positive discrimination' for many years.

If your'e white no need to apply type equal opportunity.

All their players except Ivan Toney will be taking the knee. Ivan Toney says it's not enough basically, and not enough is being done at the top level to deal with racism. Similar to what Zaha says.

Of course they have. They did it in the Euros and were booed. You think they're just gonna shrink and give in. Has anyone been paying any attention at all? Get ready for players walking off the pitch this season. They're not gonna throw the towel in on this.

when brentford took the knee against valencia last saturday the crowd cheered but I'm not sure if it was for taking the knee or because they thought the game had started with the referees whistle, the valencia players seemed to think it was to start the game as a couple of them ran in to the opposition half, it wasnt a great start to the game

Report SirNorbertClarke August 12, 2021 2:34 PM BST
Of course the majority of people in the UK are not overt racists but bias does exist in society.

In America where it started it was a protest against a government and a country which did not value black lives as much as white lives. To that end I think our footballers would be better employed encouraging kids to go to school and not join gangs.

Having said that no one should be booing players taking a knee.

and even if bias exists lol at trying to eliminate it

bias is often the result of circumstances too, not vice versa

not many people would be biased against hiring jewish or asian people for example, because those communities are wealthy
