It's not just him though, is it? There is an arrogant whiff to the whole french side.

With Ronaldo and Messi past their best the media needed to invent another superstar and sadly, it was him. This tournament has highlighted that there is a shortage of outstanding players.

They tried similar with Netherlands side, and look how that turned out too - way too many spending more time on social media profiles and campaigns rather than focusing on playing well in actual football games in the modern game.

I like Mbappe and thought his penalty was pretty decent but it was a truly excellent save by the keeper. Just look at how high the keeper raised his hand  to save it.  Fantastic save. Mbappe is still only 22 and his best days are ahead of him.  I'd have him at Fulham in a heartbeat!  Grin

If you want to blame anybody take a look at Pogba.  He scores a superb goal and then spends the rest of the game gloating about it.  That stupid little dance he did irritated me.  Instead of dancing and celebrating he should have been urging his teammates to keep the pressure on and make sure they held onto the 3-1 lead.  France have some great individuals but they're not a great team.  I've backed Italy and am still hopeful despite the poor showing against Austria.

Pogba to blame lol, he was France's best player.

The French are arrogant barstewards who think the British will save them whenever they get into trouble, just like in WW2. Didn't work this time. They've never forgiven us for saving them & think that just because they've got a pretty language & a stompingly patriotic National Anthem that would be enough. In fact, the team should be playing in white kit with a vertical yellow stripe down the back of the shirts. If Swiss had scored the penalty it would have been a different game altogether!

We all know what the posing French are like
If they'd gone 2-0 down they would've sulked. They don't have that fighting spirit.

Just because two teams score two goals in the last few minutes then it always happens that's a lunatic analogy. Most of the time it won't happen. That's precisely why people are raving about yesterday's games. If the french were that great they wouldn't have been 2-0 behind in the first place.

Never been more certain a player was going to miss, I think nearly everyone was. Was out of sorts the whole game. He is over reliant on his pace and struggles to make an impact against an organised back 4 sitting back. If you play a high line like the Argies or Bayern then he'll murder you with his pace.

But in the second half the Swiss still gave him plenty of space and he was poor. That last chance he missed where he pretended to be injured was a bit pathetic. Media make him out to be the next Messi/Ronaldo but he's not got the quick feet or skill that they do. A lot of players that fast tend to over rely on their pace. Comparisons with Henry too, understandably, but not on the same level.... yet. At 22 Henry had a French League and a World Cup but had only just joined Arsenal and was a shadow of the player he became.

Anelka had as much if not more talent than Mbappe, some would say Henry too, but didn't fully realise it.  Mbappe doesn't have a Wenger to get the best out of him whereas they both did. If Anelka had stayed at Arsenal under Wenger he'd have become the player Henry did imo and Henry would never have gone to Arsenal or been as good.

I think he may have been unhappy that Benzema was brought back and became the focal point of the attack. They mentioned that on Irish TV last night and said that Mbappe's ego couldn't handle it. Never struck me as a guy with a big ego and not sure if there's any truth to that.

During the game vs Switzerland, ugly scenes for France (EDS):

- Rabiot & Pogba insulted each other - Rabiot unhappy with Pogba's defensive efforts
- Varane insulted Pavard, unhappy with his defending
- Pavard blamed Pogba, for doing no defending, Varane later backed Pavard up

Other stories coming out today too.

Pogba's best position is one of the two attacking midfielders in a 4-3-3, like he used to play at Juventus

you're asking for trouble if you need to rely on him defending

Mbappe plays best on the counter, see performance v Barcelona

both are good players but you need to fit the team around them, not vice versa

Kante

Pogba - Rabiot

Mbappe - Benzema - Griezmann

4-3-3 like v Germany

why did Deschamps change it?
By:

against Switzerland it was more like 3-4-3 with Pogba and Kante sitting deep and Rabiot on the flank

They miss Umtiti. Varane has been poor by his own standards for 2 years. Kimpembe is a step down from Umtiti. He should have capped Laporte when he had the chance as they knew he could play for Spain and he'd captained all the underage France teams all the way up. He'd have been a better option than that plank Lenglet who is useless in the air.

should have been capped when he 15

there's a new rule since last september that young players have to play 4 competitive games or play once in major finals or they can switch before they're 21. Doesn't apply to Grealish but he was gone by 16. Wouldn't blame Rice or Grealish switching. The FAI is a shambles, Ireland were playing turgid football for years. They feel as much if not more English than Irish having been born there and lived there all their lives. Worth a fortune to them too if they are England Internationals rather than Irish. Zero reason to go to Ireland unless you feel 100% Irish which they obviously don't.

I think Grealish's last game for Ireland under 21s was in August 2014 when he was 19

Grealish played 20 times for Ireland at u17, 18 and u21 level

he played gaelic football in Birmingham too, even played at Croke Park once
