How is he odds on , no sporting achievement for the year and the rules state u need one, so he might not even be nominated.
Not everyone in agreement of what hes doing either ,hes going against the governments wishes too who run the BBC.
Historically footballers dont do well in this either, Kane odds on after been top goalscorer at world cup couldnt even win it

Ridiculous, but the award has become less and less important. That's the only saving grace.

Need to be careful because I posted the last thread on Chit Chat before it was closed questioning exactly what he did himself beyond lending his name to the campaign.

I even wonder if he actually writes his own comments that now seem to be quoted every few minutes.

It must be great having all that money, gaining kudos with those who have nothing, and getting someone else to dip into their pockets.

We live in a world gone mad, where political correctness is everything.

Rashford started the fund with his own money.

He's done little to be nominated for spoty

But bbc keep featuring him on their front page

Geoghegan Hart probably deserves a nomination ahead of him too after today.

Weight of money on rashford might
suggest he is being nominated.

Giggs never did much in the year he got
nominated, but bbc make their own rules as 249/1 layers found out.

Hamilton won't win, he is stupid at public relations and does not come across well at all. "Got away from the slums of Stevenage" etc... Rashford a big helping hand from all the ManURE fans up and down the country has to be the bet not that he has achieved anything in 2020 sports wise.
Report Darlo Bantam October 28, 2020 4:33 PM GMT
has to be the bet not that he has achieved anything in 2020 sports wise

For that reason, I seriously doubt he'll be nominated. Despite its slightly confusing name, the award is about sporting success and achievements. If he's nominated, he'll win; but given a panel of judges will go through it on the criteria, it's far, far more likely he won't be nominated but will win something else on the night, perhaps the Helen Rollason award.
Report scandanavian_haven October 28, 2020 4:45 PM GMT
no chance he would win if he was nominated, go through the list of past winners, it's because they achieved something during the last year, he would be breaking that mould. Most people who vote are sports fans, sports fans are not going to vote for someone because he fought for free school dinners.

Of course, this is no ordinary year, opportunities to perform a sporting achievement to capture the imagination of the public have been in short supply.

In every Olympic year above, a gold medalist went on to pick up the SPOTY award.
Clearly, the Olympic Games didn't happen this year, so the trend will be broken.

If Rashford wins sports personality of the year over Lewis Hamilton, incoming 7 time world F1 Champions who's just broke Schumachers 91 GP win record, then the award is laughable, he's not as unpopular as people suggest, he won it before and was runner up 4 times, I can't see people voting for Rashford in droves.
Report Angoose October 28, 2020 5:36 PM GMT
But the award is laughable, everybody knows that Crazy
Hamilton runner up in 2007/2008/2018/2019, won it in 2014.

Personally, I think that the award will go to the person who can calculate the marginal advertising revenue from substituting an episode of Heathrow : Britain's Busiest Airport with a thrilling EPL encounter between West Brom and Burnley Laugh
Report scandanavian_haven October 28, 2020 5:42 PM GMT
don't think he was clear winner in the four times he was runner up, 2007 didn't win anything, Calzaghe probable deserving winner, 2008 imo he really should have but still Hoy was multi gold medalist, 2018 Thomas won Tour de France, last year I think he should won, Stokes won but England didn't even win the ashes. But overall don't think he's been hard done by.

Incidentally It was actually announced just today angoose that Heathrow is was no longer Europe's busiest airport, gone to some Paris airportDevil

Back to more important topics, and surely it is time for the world of figure skating to, once again, pick up SPOTY.

1980 - Robin cousins
1984 - Torvill and Dean

I'm going big on Peter James Hallam and Natasha McKay Happy

Giggsy won it when doing little

As 249/1 layers know well.

Jimmy Anderson would be a similar
case as most of his wickets were not
this year

An element of Hamiltons achievement is
past years too!

Quite hard to concentrate on this year
for nomination panel, and impossible
for those voting.

They really should not nominate rashford
as he clearly is not most deserving
footballer to be nominated for
sporting activities.

Give him some award for work
in spare time to aid society
but there are already loads of
footballers doing stuff for local
food banks, who deserve reward in
similar manner.
