Surely their only hope was to defend well and nick the odd goal?

Against Leicester their defending was shambolic and they offered nothing up front.

At that rate it could be all over by Christmas.

For sure as they've signed a lot of rubbish to boot

Between them and Fulham for the wooden spoon you'd think at this stage
Report betting_masta September 15, 2020 8:18 PM BST
Bilic is a good manager, proved by getting them up, but you cannay polish a turd as they say. Pereira looks a player but the rest of their team is absolute pony, especially the back five, although they signed Ivanovic today but he can only improve them so much. sure to finish bottom two along with Fulham

Leicester were shocking for the final 7 months of the previous season though, gave up a 15 point lead over 5th?

Leicester looked no better than that final 10 games either
Report stroodle September 15, 2020 10:11 PM BST
Gave up 15 points says it all, maybe better than people think. Did they not have a few of their main players missing near end of season, remember Leicester won't have a star bench waiting to come on. Not disagreeing with the fact WBA looked really poor the other day, but as I said Leicester was in canter mode in that game, and maybe be better than people think.
Report Dav_vin03 September 15, 2020 10:26 PM BST
Bilic is at his best when he sets up his teams to be hard to beat, I can see them frustrating the hell out of Everton on Saturday.

The problem for Bilic is if they do concede, the tactic has to be considerably altered and in effect the team waste 10 mins of play adjusting to a new approach to chase the game.

I think West Brom relegation is only 50% chance, no value backing them to get relegated at 8/11.
Report Coachbuster September 15, 2020 10:28 PM BST
I don't like writing teams off this early   ...Villa were being written off early last season and they took 2 pastings from Leicester home and away  4-0,1-4

theyre poor  but i'll reserve judgement
Report differentdrum September 15, 2020 10:49 PM BST
They couldn't have been less impressive in falling over the line at the end of last season.

The Premier League will soon suss out that Pereira only has one decent foot and yes, he is the best they have got by some distance.

The away status has no impact in an empty stadium
Report G Hall September 16, 2020 9:57 AM BST
I looked at the starting eleven against Leicester and then the bench, there is absolutely no way that squad is going to stay up, even with a few additions, apart from Pereira, there is not enough quality, and predictably Bilic will inevitably pay the price, instead of being honoured for his achievement of getting them promoted.
Report Aspro September 16, 2020 11:16 AM BST
There are more than crowd elements involved in an away game wolf. Travelling, maybe having to stay over an extra night etc. All of these impact a player's psyche.

does seem to be slighty fewer goals too .. don't know if thats because of the empty stadium too

Be interesting to see what sort of team Bilic puts out against Harrogate in the League Cup tonight as the League 2 newbies have started well and this is their Cup Final. West Brom play Everton Saturday lunchtime so wholesale team changes seem likely.

Glad to see we have so many expert pundits who have summed a team up after one game. Very well done. I'm surprised some of you have been here for a few years as with your expertise I'd have thought you would have made enough to retire on in your first year.

As for SS's they've signed a lot of rubbish it's good to know we have such an excellent reader of a player's ability.

If you watched the Leicester game you will have noticed that the Baggies were at least the equal of Leicester in the first half. Ok they did go missing after the first goal but that applies to a lot of teams.

As for falling over the line last season they did. But a lot of teams didn't perform after the covid break. As a few of you are so confident that the Baggies will go down I'm sure you're fully exposed now as it's surely too good an opportunity to miss.

As for tonight Baggies may make 10 changes or may field first team. We don't know yet.

People have to remember who seem certs to go down at the beginning in large parts is because of the manger, and the way he has them playing, managerial changes always happen every season when teams are struggling, then off a sudden not dead certs. So after just 1 game, it is way too early. Tbf to Leicester to people who say they too were not at the races, 3 of their usual back 4 were out/gone, Chilwell gone, Evans suspended, Pereira injured and Maddison on the bench coming back from injury.

West Brom’s price has come in considerably for tonight’s game vs Harrogate, someone knows that either Bilic is playing a strong side or a small Harrogate squad will give the subs and reserves a run out.

It has nothing to do with " how a manager has a team playing" .Its called the honeymoon effect where players are motivated, pick results up and then revert back to their usual level usually. You're obsessed with managers, tactics despite the evidence showing player quality and motivation is mainly all that matters

Report Dav_vin03 September 16, 2020 6:29 PM BST
Kamil Grosicki could do with a good game, if no more than to help raise some interest for a move as Bilic doesn’t fancy him despite only signing him in Jan.

These days many of the players travel to home games as much as away ones, I don't see an 80 minute drive on a luxurious coach being a disadvantage for city tbh

Report wolf3011 September 19, 2020 10:37 PM BST
Norwich were pathetic last season , the white flag of surrender came out before they kicked a ball and almost seemed to accept relegation. If west brom show the same cowardice, they deserve to join them back in the championship although at least they spent around 20 million this summer. Delia at Norwich just baked the players a few cakes and hoped for the best
