Reports saying Dortmund will accept £90M

Surely if they paid £85M for Maguire you could hold out for £130M here Confused

Brentford don't have United after their name.

Waste of money imo, good player but don't spunk that much one one player unless he's a true world beater which he's not, why are Dortmund even willing to sell.

Football and the money in it is grotesque. Love my football but am seriously getting p!ssed off with it and the inequality that exists in the great game. If this is what they are paying this chap then the world has gone officially mad. I don't even rate the lad. Not his fault btw.
Report darren_discombobulates_sports August 4, 2020 6:41 PM BST
if they were not paying footballers the wages they are, then there'd be a lot less tax and national insurance contributions made to the country which helps pay for things like the NHS, schools etc, they also put their money into other industries such as when they buy expensive cars and homes as well as the community work they do and charity contributions they make, clubs make obscene amounts of money globally off of the back of the players and their names selling the club including on the back of replica kits, do not see why the players should not get a cut of it exactly, we all know those that work in the emergency services deserve more but that's not the way the cookie crumbles, you can't pay them the same amount.

The Premier League contributed a total of £3.3 billion in tax to the Treasury in 2016-17.

The £2.4bn tax contribution (in 13/14) could pay the salaries of around 93,000 police constables – over 90 per cent of all those in England and Wales.

The impact assessment also found that the Premier League supports 103,354 full time equivalent jobs in the UK.

my concern would be looking at his heat map, much of his best work was on the left hand side, which is rashford's position. so sancho will have to play on the right where he is less effective. it also means mason fraudwood will get less minutes

have to admit have not really watched a lot of his so hard to judge, but the numbers look great, can you not though find 2 players for that combined fee that would strengthen your squad? 100 mil or so for one player unless he's in the ronaldo/messi league doesn't seem right.

interestingly, Sancho's xG performance is actually comparable this season with Messi. Messi is a lot more dangerous in terms of goals and providing assists but in xG build up, Sancho is similar - from understat.com

I think the price that Dortmund are asking for is fair. Look at it this way, if Man Utd were selling Sancho right now they would be demanding 150 million. Just because its a German club we think we can rip them off.
Report lurka August 7, 2020 12:05 PM BST
Don't think it's about ripping them off. Doesn't seem to be anyone else interested, so United are using that to get a better deal. He will have 1 year left on his contract in another year and Dortmund know they are not likely to get as big a fee then. Now is the time to get a big fee for him. Getting even £80m in the current climate could prove to be shrewd for Dortmund and they should be able to get a lot more than that. Having a big sum of cash to spend will buy you a lot more this summer than next.

It's Dortmund acting the bollócks more than Man U imo. They will cash in surely.

The thing is Utd do the same thing it feels like with every transfer, start haggling over a fee and then ultimately pay what the selling club wanted in the end anyway, same will probably happen here.

No-one else is in for him by virtue of it being so expensive. If this goes on to next summer I guarantee almost certainly more clubs are in for him if the fee is like 60m or whatever.

Report lurka August 7, 2020 8:40 PM BST
What is your point?
Obviously more clubs would be interested at 60m? Doesn't mean Dortmund will get more money for him.
He seems hell bent on wanting to go to Man U. If that's still the case next year then it doesn't matter if another club offers Dortmund more. He can say sell me to United or let me leave for nothing in a year. Then Dortmund's bargaining position will be even weaker.

Dortmund are acting like they hold all the aces when Man U and the player do in the current climate. But they know this and will cash in this summer.
Report Angela Rebecchi August 7, 2020 9:08 PM BST
Dortmund playing hard ball, they always do. Pleased United are standing strong. We have offered more than enough. They can take it or leave it.
Report n88uk August 7, 2020 9:44 PM BST
I'm not convinced he's hell bent on joining Man Utd is sorta the point I'm making, it's just Man Utd are the only option at the prices being quoted as no-one else has that kind of money in this market. I don't really think from Sancho's pov it's Man Utd or bust at all.
Report n88uk August 7, 2020 9:50 PM BST
Who is in the better position depends what view you take, Man Utd are always under some pressure to sign players, the onus to do so will be more the longer the window goes without any major signings. From Dortmund's point of view it's how much extra they get now vs what they'd expect next summer. Didn't they turn down about 30m for Lewandowski when he had 1 year left on his deal from Bayern when he was guaranteed to go there on a free next season, so they are far from guaranteed to just jump at a fee, though I guess it's how far it's from their valuation to an extent.
Report lurka August 7, 2020 10:28 PM BST
I think the Lewa situation was a lot different. Direct rival and Bayern tried to bully Dortmund into selling him a year earlier and acted very shabbily in negotiations, disrespecting Dortmund. They'd have lost a lot of face with their fans if they'd sold him and it wasn't really a practical option the way Bayern behaved, acting arrogantly like they'd no option but to sell.

United aren't doing that. They are the only club apart from City and PSG perhaps who will be spending at the 100m level this summer. I don't think Pep or City would sign him back. Clubs are unlikely to have a full season of attendances next year and you can get more bang for your buck this Summer with every club down millions. It's a no brainer to sell and Dortmund could get 3 or 4 players in and strengthen the whole team. In Lewa's case it was like a no brainer not to sell the way Bayern acted. They could lose Haalandfor cheap at any stage with his low release clause, get a few young players in.
Report n88uk August 7, 2020 10:37 PM BST
I think it will happen in the end anyway, though in part because like I said Man Utd always blink eventually in these negotiations over the last few years. They didn't want to pay more than like 50m for Maguire last summer and ended up paying 80m. This will probably get done in the end with some deal with add ons.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a fantastic old skool full back to me.  In past eras full backs were valued most for their defensive strengths.  Nowadays the most prized FBs are the Carlos/Cafu clones like the lad at Liverpool.
I doubt AWB will ever be that but his case is not helped by the player in front of him.  Darren James not prem class IMO and Greenwood shifted out to the right because he can't break up the brilliant Rashford/Martial partnership.
When Shaw and Rashford play Man utd are strong down the left if they sign Sancho I think they will be even stronger down the right.

Klopp and Co. identify the players that fit into Liverpool's team and style of play with Michael Edwards making it happen.

In stark contrast, United have a scatter gun approach and are linked to a whole host of big names and star players. Ed then haggles over the price with the saga dragging on over the whole summer, until the going rate is paid or the player walks away. Given the current set up at United, I can't see this changing in the forseable.
Report duffy August 11, 2020 1:09 PM BST
I'd tell Dortmund and Sancho to get on with it then, for 120 million I'd want a guaranteed 25/30 goal centre forward not a winger.

Let's see how he feels when it dawns on him he really might be stuck there for another year.
Report Cauthenmeister August 11, 2020 7:02 PM BST
If I was Sancho I would jump at the chance to play one entire season with Erling Haaland. There is the opportunity to take the Bundesliga away from Bayern, and all the kudos that would go with it. He is still young enough to have a massive impact in the PL, but I expect the lure of all that lovely money will be the overriding factor.
