He's had a good run for his money. Coming out with garbled nonsense for years, and staring down interviewers as if he was a cross between Aristotle and Yoda. Always had an aggressive attitude towards the media, whilst never missing an opportunity to take their money.

Havent seen the interview but read a transcript of what strachan said.
Apparently he seemed to have asked a question. Namely, what are the football authorities going to do if adam johnson makes a return and fans start abusing him?
Like i said i didnt catch the tv show so its quite possible GS put this question in the mocking tone he has been known to adopt with the media before.
But if all he has done is ask a question then really this is a massive over reaction.

once said this

Although this might be the most extreme example, it is not the first bizarre comment to have been made by Strachan in recent years. This is the man who followed his final game in charge of Scotland by saying "Genetically we are behind. In the last campaign we were the second smallest, apart from Spain. We had to pick a team to combat the height and strength at set-plays. Genetically we have to work at things, maybe we get big women and men together and see what we can do. But it is a problem for us because we have to fight harder for every ball and jump higher than anyone else".

Coming off the park at full time following a bad result, a tv pundit approached and stuck a mike in front of Strachan and said, "Gordon, can I have a quick word?"

Strachan answered in a flash, "Accelerate", and marched on. LaughLaugh

Reporter: "Bang, there goes your unbeaten run. Can you take it?"
Strachan: "No, I'm just going to crumble like a wreck. I'll go home, become an alcoholic and maybe jump off a bridge. Umm, I think I can take it, yeah."

On illness: "Pahars has also caught every virus going except a computer virus and he is probably working on that even now."

On Agustin Delgado: "I've got more important things to think about. I've got a yogurt to finish by today, the expiry date is today. That can be my priority rather than Agustin Delgado."

On Sir Alex Ferguson: "He used to play tapes of Bill Shankly talking. I remember that and a singer he liked. I don't know who it was but it was crap. He played it on the team bus too, and all the boys hated it. Until one night it got chucked away. If he's still wondering who threw that tape off the bus, it was me. So maybe he was right and I'm not to be trusted."

On the Pope: "He’s not a bad lad, to be fair. If it was ‘God bless Myra Hindley’, I might have a problem."

Reporter: "This might sound like a daft question, but you'll be happy to get your first win under your belt, won't you?"
Strachan: "You're right. It is a daft question. I'm not even going to bother answering that one. It is a daft question, you're spot on there."

Reporter: "What is your impression of Jermaine Pennant?"
Strachan: "I don't do impressions”

Reporter: "So Gordon, any changes then?"
Strachan: "Naw, still 5ft 6", ginger and a big nose."

Reporter: "So, Gordon, in what areas do you think Middlesbrough were better than you today?"
Strachan: "What areas? Mainly that big green one out there…"

From Martin Samuel in the mail
Looks like the knives are out for old Gordon.

Gordon Strachan was known for his acerbic quips. Some were funny, but they were also easy. Reporters tie themselves in knots trying to be polite after matches. Instead of asking the brutal 'why did you lose?' an interviewer will try to couch it in gentler terms: 'In what areas were the opposition better than you today?'

Strachan's sarcastic response to that one: 'Mainly the big green one out there' is amusing, but unenlightening.

'You don't take losing lightly, do you?' said one hapless questioner after a defeat, affecting sympathy. Strachan's reply — 'I don't take stupid questions lightly, either' — made no acknowledgement of this.

Yes, it was a stupid question, but would he prefer the blunt version? Managers don't seem to like that, either. Anyway, as Strachan now knows, there is a difference between a one-liner and the weighty analysis the modern game demands.

Sports discussion programmes are like the Andrew Marr show. Sexism, racism, executive pay, gambling, the rehabilitation of offenders, brain injuries, employee welfare, divisions in society, high finance, complex international law, the moral maze — be prepared to discuss it all, and without verbal missteps. Strachan thought the folks with the microphones had it easy. Now he knows.

Us yins from Leith can understand him and his attitude. I always hoped that he would be Hibs manager one day but Paul  Heckingbottom is doing a good job at the moment.

Strachan is one of the all-time great Scottish footballer success stories.  No doubt about that.  Given a choice of him or Hazard and it;s wee Gordie every time.
