Had 2 fit centre halves and the 2nd choice left back on bench yet plays Shaw at CH and Dalot at right back where he has Almaron and trippier to contend with.

Rashfords been naff whichever side he plays on this season. In Istanbul Garnacho had the run of the left side and was subbed when 2 up to be replaced by Pellistri who usually plays on the right.

And how Martial keeps getting in is a mystery. Ironic that 2 players who seem to be putting the effort in this season are the 2 he tried to offload to West Ham.

The last 2 Utd managers have been the worst in clubs history, the Olly must go brigade must be really proud.

Was fairly obvious Ole had to go (much as I like him) as the players had completely downed tools on him and he had no credible CV from which to win back any credit...

even his achievements were pretty limited if you're suggesting Ten Hag is somehow significantly inferior...

Ole took over from Jose when 6th and finished 6th ...

finished 3rd with only 18 wins and 66pts (a weak PL year)   (Ten Hag 75 pts last season in a stronger PL)

the only good season was the covid year (2nd) played in front of near empty stadiums where pressure barely existed in what felt like training games..

and then left with them in 6th after being battered 4-1 by Watford which Ralf kept them in...

That was the worst we've seen because of a few things, up until now even through poor play you never thought that there wasn't just a little chance that something might come our way in a game, tonight we looked like we were just waiting to be beat from the very start and it was just a matter of time until they scored and as soon as they did it was all over as you never thought there was even a remote chance of us scoring.

It put to an end of any turning of the corner notion, as someone said above, it might take a little while longer but that was the end for ETH tonight.

Outworked and bullied throughout, very sad to watch.
Report brentford December 3, 2023 1:38 AM GMT
was certainly an awful performance..

context would be of 3 aways in less than a full week is pretty tough sledding but doesn't excuse that level of performance...

N'castle are a a very decent side - already done Arsenal and Chelsea..should have done L'pool (but missed some big chances @1-0..)

refreshing to finally see Rashford being called out both on MOTD and the live coverage...embarrassing levels of effort doesn't even begin to cover it...and a lot of the problems came from that...lack of counter threat @ 0-0 was certainly a concern as well that should be a minimum with that front 3 but we're asking Mainoo to already dominate MF in big games away from home - that's probably not realistic...Bruno wasn't great tonight but can't always carry it and should have seen at least one yellow for Schar with a beautifully cynical foul on the counter (which I'm not knocking him for) plus the slightly dubious studs on ankle (not intented so  maybe not red but probably was a yellow)...
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- December 3, 2023 1:46 AM GMT
On another night schar and maguire would have seen 2 yellows

Of course they behave differently after one.

Had a good view on Schar pro foul and it's a yellow
all day. Didn't really see second one until tv tonite
and he stood on him which has been variously viewed by
var over last season. Var can't give yellow, whivh
is clear point of laws that needs to be corrected at some point.

But ref seemed pretty much in control and called out dives
and allowed a game.

Probably the worst performance I've ever seen from a united team.
Worse than any of the 6-1s or the 7-0 where at least we were in the games for a while.
We were out run , out fought, out thought , out everything tbh.

I'm not sure what ten hag was watching but how could a few of those come out for the second half.

The lack of effort from Rashford was disgusting and mctom wasn't much better.
Martial away to an aggressive team on a Saturday night,  come on.

Second to every ball and losing every challenge other than McGuire and Shaw.

It's probably looking like ten hag is not good enough but he absolutely has to stay for another while to see off the mctoms and Sancho's and Rashford's of this world.

Marcus's PR in overdrive yesterday after the TV pundits and written media finally couldn't ignore his stinking attitude.

Pictures released of him working at a food bank and giving everyone a tenner out of his pocket.

He'd have to dole out 35,000 tenners to drop a weeks wages to the poor.

Give a hundred grand to the centre( that he could write off a big % against tax) and it would surely have more benefit to the poor but that doesn't look as saintly I'm afraid.

Virtually none of them can earn more elsewhere unless they run down their contract. That's why they're so hard to shift. Maguire on 190k a week - who else will pay him that? West Ham reportedly offered 120k for 4 years and Maguire wanted 14m to leave, which equals the 70kpw shortfall for 4 years, even tho he only had 2 years left on his United contract. United reportedly offered him the full shortfall of 7m and he said no. An extortionate and shameless demand if true.

In fact the 3 best performances this season have come with Rashford out.

Brilliant effort from everyone last night and the chances flowed and although we didn't take them you'd like to think of we keep creating that amount the confidence in front of goal will return.

It was interesting to watch Rashford come on for last 13 minutes and after the amount of critisism he took all week he still didn't bother to come out of a jog.

Twice Bruno ran past him to close down and Garnacho who was out in his feet did the same going back on one occasion.

Rashy continued to jog.

The thing is Brentford it looks like he's wrong.

They didn't look like a team happy to see off the manager last night.

As you said above it's easier to press and put teams under pressure without Marcus .

The PL is so strong now that one cog not putting in the effort or doing their job gets exploited and makes us so easy to play against.

Would also explain why so many of Rashford's goals come in EL or domestic cup game's against lower div teams or weakened Top tier sides.

It's easier carry someone against these sides .

I really think he's a big problem for us and the infuriating thing is I think he will start him Saturday to give Gnashers a rest we will be told.

the leakers... assuming there are (or is) and that it's not just total bs are always going to inflate the %  of players sharing their view...but in most dressing rooms there's a lot that can be easily lead one way or t'other...depending who they think will win out or just weakness of personality (and we know there's a few of them)

Managers that reward training effort and don't shut doors on players bar Sancho for good reason typically have a chance to re-invent the team a bit..last night maybe proof of that but as referenced that was quite an easy game for any player to put it in (or risk OT turning on them not the manager)...and the Rashford decision at the weekend is big as is Marcus respsonse....

I (and I'm guessing you share this view) just don't think Marcus is going to change...he'll maybe up for it for a game or two and then revert to type...maybe quicker if results/performances aren't great...manager (who I;ve generally sided with as you) has the moment to potentially make this work but feels like a coins toss as to whether he does or not...and part of that is no more special treatment of Marcus...

Yep agree with all of that 8:16 post Brentford.

What I don't get is when Marcus first came in the side his workrate was phenomenal.
But somewhere along the ole reign his effort dropped and the non tackling walking Marcus appeared.
Hard to know exactly why but if I had to guess I'd say entitlement and believing his own hype.
Some believe he has a playing clause in his contract but I doubt it very much but I would say the club hierarchy egged on by sponsors put pressure on our managers to play him.

I think ETH will live or die on how he negotiates this conundrum.

yep, likewise...would never have believed I'd have to worry about his attitude and work rate when first seeing him..

as I've said before on here...he still comes across as very grounded, humble etc in interviews ...but it's either an act, or he doesn't love football (some don't) or he genuinely thinks he's the English Mbape - in which case he needs a reality check..

I'll never knock his lack of goals or assists in the short term...but the bare minimum both is and needs to be work rate these days...few players love that aspect ( a few weirdos) but it has to be the minimum to play...and the Gala' performance (only undone by GK errors) and Chelsea last night are such proof of how much difference it makes...

I notice Scotty made a point of referencing 'light training' ahead of the game...ETH when asked about that said that's always the case when game loads are heavy...truth maybe somewhere in between....maybe Eric is learning a bit along the way as well...wouldn't be unreasonable..

Luke Shaw is another who should be binned. Because he is English he gets away with it. He is a total disgrace as a pro. Overweight, constant injury issues and when he does play is limited in the extreme. Defensively dodgy as seen today and brings little output attacking wise.

Utd are now worse than at the end of OGS reign. That is a fact. The signings ETH have bee dire. Antony is a busted flush. Martinez is massively over rated and is showing frequent injury issues. I would sack EtH tonight and get in Kieran McKenna.

This would be a disaster IMO, for starters he's already been there and whatever input he had back then didn't really work and it would be another case of throwing someone completely in the deep end because he's having success at a much lower level you can't do that when they would be being asked to come in and sort out an unholy mess, he'd be completely out of his depth.

Whoever comes in next time needs to be first and foremost someone that the dressing room looks at with respect and awe, someone with gravitas who could look at the players and say, "who the fook are you".

I refer you back to 1999, any time they get a chance to beat us down for that night they will be up for.

duffy whoever comes in needs to gut the squad. It's little short of a disaster.

I don't intend to comment on United again until the club owners show some balls. I am sick of watching players steal a living.

might have a long wait Norbert...no money available in January and maybe no European money for the summer which would max spending at around 120-150m...that's 2 notable players max these days not to mention the attraction of the club for players continues to diminish..

would be handy if the Saudis would take Varane for 20m and maybe Casemiro as well for say 25-30m..

There's a top top player they could have for nothing, 2 footed, can play on either side.

Goes by the name of Senor greenwood.

Are they any good at golf?

Even a Pep could come in as united boss and within a year these players would stare him down imo.
Because of the insane wages we pay the players hold the power.

Pay a good player 140k a week and he bursts a gut to get to the next level.
If his level or attitude is not good enough and he's benched he'll want to move as he knows he can get similar wages elsewhere and play again.

Pay the same player 350k a week and he has no incentive to flog himself as he knows this is the pinnacle of his earning.
Bench him and he won't care as he knows he couldn't get those wages elsewhere so he's willing to sacrifice his career in the short term knowing most likely the manager will be gone and he gets redemption again and again.
As he reaches his last year the club offer him insane wages again so as not to lose an asset and on we go again.

Jones, martial, Dalot, Rashford, mctominay, Shaw , de gea all renewed on wages well above their ability so impossible to shift.

Sancho, McGuire, Varane, Casemiro, mount, Anthony Sanchez,Lukaku all signed on massive wages well above what they would have got elsewhere.

Everything Ralf Ragnick said was true about who we signed and what we payed was the completely wrong profile and strategy to succeed.

A complete cull is needed but can not happen because of the complete mess we have made of the player profiles and FFP.

Some of them are good players when they're bothered so for the foreseeable I'm afraid it's going to be up and down , hit and miss depending on how they feel.

Look at Shaw yesterday,   looked as if he really couldn't be arsed yet had just put in 3 very good games previously.
