Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has named an unchanged starting XI ahead of Wednesday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Brentford (kick-off 7.45pm GMT).
The Magpies host Thomas Frank's Bees at St. James' Park, aiming to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the second time in their last three seasons, and Howe has opted for the same starting XI which claimed a 4-0 win against Leicester City last weekend.
Martin Dúbravka, who kept a clean sheet in Saturday's victory over the Foxes, continues in-between the sticks while Fabian Schär and Dan Burn retain their spots in the heart of United's backline, with Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall occupying the respective defensive flanks.
Bruno Guimarães, who netted a brace in the Magpies' 5-1 win against Brentford during the 2022/23 campaign, is situated in the middle of the park alongside Sandro Tonali and Joelinton.
Jacob Murphy, who registered two assists in the Magpies' 4-2 defeat against Brentford earlier this month, is in line for his 100th competitive start for United and, along with Anthony Gordon, will aim to provide attacking support for Alexander Isak, who has has netted three goals in his last three Premier League outings.
Harvey Barnes, who was on target against the Bees eleven days ago, is named on the substitutes' bench along with attacking duo Will Osula and Miguel Almirón.
Howe, targeting a 300th win of his managerial career this evening, has a number of defensive selections to deploy from the bench if needed, including Kieran Trippier, Lloyd Kelly and Matt Targett.
With Sean Longstaff serving a one-game ban after picking up yellow cards against AFC Wimbledon and Chelsea in previous rounds, teenage midfielder Lewis Miley has also been named on the bench while Odysseas Vlachodimos is the substitute goalkeeper.

We are number 3 in the draw which takes place just after half 10; will it be Arsenal who we will give a good game at home but will struggle away; Liverpool who we just can't seem to beat in recent years or Spurs who we have had some right ding dong matches with. Regardless of who it is it will be a tough one however; you can't win if your not in. hopefully the 1st leg will be away

Joe Willock will start for Newcastle United at Ipswich Town on Saturday as head coach Eddie Howe makes one change to his starting 11 for the trip to Portman Road (kick-off 3pm GMT).
The Magpies cruised past Brentford on Wednesday to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals and Howe has opted to make just the solitary alteration to his side for their final pre-Christmas outing - and it is an enforced one, with the suspended Joelinton missing out and Willock stepping into the midfield in his place.
Martin Dúbravka continues to deputise for Nick Pope in goal, with Tino Livramento, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall forming a now settled back four.
Willock is in midfield alongside Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali, with Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon either side of Alexander Isak in attack.
Lewis Miley is back on the bench, with Kieran Trippier, Harvey Barnes and Sean Longstaff also named.
Matt Targett and Lloyd Kelly provide defensive backup, with Miguel Almirón and Will Osula more attacking reinforcements. Odysseas Vlachodimos is the substitute goalkeeper.

Hate to be critical of the forwards however; how many 1 on 1 chances have they missed this season if they had taken even half of them they would have been in the champion league places

Tonali looks to be motoring up through the gears now. Serious talent that lad.
Him and Isak would on top form get in any team in the league imho.
Murphy is some hero. Lads with twice the talent don't have half his attitude. Great to see him getting some good end product. Absolute missile for his goal.

Would hate to see Isak or Tonali leave; as for Anderson; I said towards the end of last season; he would have to start scoring goals or he could go; I certainly got that one right; as well as he is playing for Forest; he hasn't found the net yet; I realise he is still young and will get better however; his goals tally will have to improve

respect that opinion but Losing Anderson was poor imho. He was never going to be a goal scorer really. I agree as a whole the midfield did need to start contributing goals but I saw that as lacking in the more senior players like Bruno and Longstaff. He has found a proper niche at Forest as a midfielder and is now bringing and end product to his game with 5 assists and his engine is a major factor in Forest being 3rd.
That lad should be the guy youngsters look on as proof the Academy in Newcastle can work and there is a pathway through. Not every player in a high class squad is going to be a goal scorer. Too many people too quick to judge youngsters these days. With proper development he would have been loaned out again after his time at Bristol to a high end Championship club to get game time and develop. Cos of the CL and squad weakness that didnt happen and its only now at Forest he is getting consistent game time and is developing big time. IMHO unless he declares for Scotland, he will get an England cap soon.

Just watched the pre match press conference for Thursday against Aston Villa. The way I read it was; 10 out of the 11 places will be the same; the only possible change will be which Joe will play ? Joelinton or Joe Willock. As for January transfer window; could be a tumbleweed month

Kieran Trippier and Joelinton both start for Newcastle United as head coach Eddie Howe makes two changes ahead of their Boxing Day visit of Aston Villa (kick-off 3pm GMT).
Trippier has been handed his first Premier League start since October's goalless draw away at Everton while Joelinton, who served a one-game suspension during United's 4-0 win against Ipswich Town last weekend, returns to the starting line-up in place of Joe Willock, who reverts to the bench.
Martin Dúbravka, targeting a third successive Premier League clean sheet this afternoon, starts in-between the sticks while Dan Burn and Fabian Schär, who netted a brace in last season's 3-1 away win against Villa, are both situated in central defence. Lewis Hall retains his spot at left-back.
Bruno Guimarães, who has recorded four assists in his last five competitive outings, captains the hosts and is situated in the middle of the park alongside Sandro Tonali, who scored on his Magpies debut in a 5-1 win against the Villans last term, and Joelinton.
Jacob Murphy, who has registered three goals and three assists in his last three Premier League matches, and Anthony Gordon will aim to provide attacking support for Alexander Isak, with the Swedish forward aiming to score in a fifth consecutive league fixture.
Harvey Barnes, on target in last season's 5-1 thrashing of Villa at St. James' Park in August 2023, is one of multiple attacking options Howe can deploy from the bench if required, including Will Osula and Miguel Almirón.
Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley are also named on the bench as well as defensive duo Lloyd Kelly and Matt Targett, with the latter joining United from today's visitors in the summer of 2022. Odysseas is the substitute goalkeeper.

Cracking atmosphere yesterday, Villa fans never deserted their team despite not having any success on the field of play. Thought they were more than in it though before the sending off.

Bruno scares me when he is trying to play the ball out from his 18 yard box so like yourself; I prefer him playing further up the field; BDB position is definitely centre half and he made some crucial interceptions yesterday. Villa did play well yesterday but we scored at the right times. How unlucky was Bruno to have his goal chalked off; that rule could do with being changed; how could he possibly have moved his elbow out of the way with the ball coming to him at such speed.

Eddie Howe has named an unchanged side for Newcastle United's Premier League game at Manchester United on Monday night.
Following the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Magpies head coach Howe has opted not to make any alterations to his starting line-up, with the only difference in the squad being the return of Tino Livramento, who replaces Matt Targett among the substitutes.
That means Martin Dúbravka will start in goal at Old Trafford, where he spent time on loan in the 2022/23 campaign, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall at the back.
Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton will play either side of Sandro Tonali in the middle of the park as part of United's in-form midfield triumvirate, with the similarly on-song Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak forming a three-pronged frontline.
Livramento is back on the bench along with Lloyd Kelly, Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley and Joe Willock.
There are attacking options, too, in the shape of Miguel Almirón, Harvey Barnes and Will Osula. Odysseas Vlachodimos is the substitute goalkeeper.

Isn't it nice that 40 points is no longer a target. A fantastic start to the year; they showed their resilience after conceding an early goal. Thought the way the game started the sore would be 9-8 one way or the other; toughest match of the season on Tuesday coming up imo; heres hoping they can grind out a result for the 2nd leg

Interested to see the team tomorrow. Personally I think it is too early for Botman to start again so Kelly might get the nod; Livramento and Trippier could go either way; who will replace Bruno ? I think he might put Joelinton in the middle and Willock comes in; only time will tell

Might be a big ask for Botman but he starts for me.
Straight choice between Longstaff and Willock. Longstaff for me rather than moving Joelinton and bringing in Willock. Can see the argument for starting Trippier Might be a big ask for Botman but he starts for me.
Joe Willock will start against his old club as Eddie Howe makes one enforced change to his side for Tuesday night's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal (kick-off 8pm GMT).
Willock - who began his career with the Gunners before joining United in 2021 - comes in for the suspended Bruno Guimarães in the only alteration from the United team that beat Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Saturday, meaning Sven Botman keeps his place at the back and Martin Dúbravka continues in goal as the Magpies look to give themselves a platform on which to build ahead of the second leg at St. James' Park this month.
Tino Livramento, Botman, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall form a back four in front of Dúbravka at the Emirates Stadium, with Willock linking up with Sandro Tonali and Joelinton in the middle of the park.
And the in-form trio of Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak start in attack as Howe's men attempt to continue their fine recent run, which has seen them win their last six games in all competitions.
There are options aplenty on the bench for Howe, with Harvey Barnes, Miguel Almirón and Will Osula the most attack-minded of them.
Defensively, Kieran Trippier, Lloyd Kelly and Matt Targett provide backup, while Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley are the midfield reinforcements. Odysseas Vlachodimos is the substitute goalkeeper.

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has joined Championship side Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 29-year-old, who has 171 Magpies appearances to his name, had temporary stints with Standard Liège and Queens Park Rangers during the last campaign.
Hayden, a Jamaica international, has now made the switch to Fratton Park and will link up with former United team-mate Matt Ritchie on the South Coast.

Only Martin Dúbravka and Joelinton keep their places from the 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win at Arsenal.
Sven Botman, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock and Dan Burn all come out of the side.
But Fabian Schär returns from suspension and there's still a great deal of experience and quality in both the line-up which will take to the field for the 3pm GMT kick-off and the substitutes.
Dúbravka starts in goal with Kieran Trippier captaining the team and Schär joining the former England man in defence.
Matt Targett and Lewis Miley make their first starts of the season while teenage winger Trevan Sanusi is named among the substitutes for the first time in a competitive game.
Tonali, Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Burn and Guimarães are also options from the bench.

Dúbravka will be looking to mark his 36th birthday with a ninth win in a row in all competitions. The Slovakia international goalkeeper has played in each of United's eight successive victories.
Alexander Isak is fit to start as he looks to score for the eighth Premier League game in a row while Anthony Gordon is in fine form himself, with three goals in three matches.
Sven Botman also returns, having sat the Bromley game out after playing twice in quick succession following his return from an ACL injury.
Emil Krafth returns to the bench after recovering from the injury which had sidelined him since the end of October, but Harvey Barnes - who scored the winner when United beat Wolves at Molineux in September - is unavailable after coming off at half time against Bromley.
Howe confirmed that the winger has suffered a thigh injury which would keep him out against Wolves.

Slow start, Wolves kept the ball and knocked it around and had a couple of decent chances.
We were far from our best but the difference was when our chances came they were put away.
I will give the Wolves fans a mention, they were the quietest lot we've had up here all season.
On we go to the next one.
