Palace were full value for the win, despite the stats saying possession was 50-50 more or less I thought we had the best of it. Mateta is in a golden spell with his run of scoring but the star player on show was our man Eze. He was absolutely outstanding, again, and no doubt many other clubs will be looking in his direction for a transfer.
The Geordie fans were singing til the very end as were out lot.

Looks like it will be more or less the same team as Wednesday so I will plump for the same starting 11. Expecting a far more difficult game tomorrow than we had at Bramall Lane; their players should be trying to avenge the 8-0 home defeat they had against us so if that is not motivation enough then I don't know what is! Just thinking about Elliot Anderson; he still hasn't scored for us in the league; I do understand that he has had injuries and was very unlucky to have the goal ruled out against Forest away last season and he is still young however; I think he will have to start putting some chances away or his career at Newcastle may come to a premature end Sad 50 league appearances and no goals is not a good return for the position he plays in. I'm at work tomorrow until 3 o clock so will get to watch most of the match.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been given a suspended two-month ban from competitive football by an independent Regulatory Commission after self-declaring breaches of FA Betting Rules.

He has also been fined £20,000 and warned by the FA as to his future conduct.

The banning period is fully suspended for the duration of the 2024/25 season, meaning he will be available to return to competitive football upon the conclusion of an existing ten-month sanction imposed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on 27 October 2023.

Provided that he does not commit any further breach of the FA Betting Rules during the suspension period, Sandro will not serve any part of the two-month sanction.

As acknowledged by the FA in the independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons, the level of assistance Sandro has provided by self-referring and fully cooperating with a subsequent investigation is extraordinary and unprecedented. Sandro made full admissions as to his betting activity, and did so in circumstances where there was no other evidence to support misconduct
proceedings.

Sandro is continuing to follow a therapeutic plan and educational programme with the club's full support and will continue to train with his teammates.

Just looking at some of our out on loan players; Harrison Ashby; Jamal Lewis; Ryan Fraser; all players with 1st team experience; I wonder who will still be here next season; obviously Fraser will go; will be interesting to see what happens to the other 2 and whether the others will have any impact on making the 1st team squad. FFP will have a big impact on who they need to sell to buy; wouldn't upset me too much if the likes of Almiron Trippier Wilson or even Joelinton or Dubravka were to leave if they could get decent money for them; they definitely need a left back and if Wilson was to go; another forward. They need to be building the team around Bruno and Isak. Gordon has definitely been the surprise package for me this season

Hate to state the obvious but our cup runs just go to show how unlucky we have been this season; Chelsea got to the final of the league cup; Man City are in the final of the FA cup and Dortmund are in the final of the champions league; hopefully they will get the rub of the green next season and at least get some home matches; if they to kick on; they need to get into a european position

Final league game of the season on Sunday and Eddie has described it as a cup final in his pre match conference; at the start of the season I predicted that the size of our squad would be the biggest problem with the extra games that the champions league would bring and that has certainly proved to be correct so I gave them a top 10 finish; they have certainly surpassed that and full marks to them for even being in with a chance for european football for next season. going to have a total stab in the dark for Sundays team; loads of possible changes. Pope; Trippier; Schar; Burn; Hall; Longstaff; Guimaraes; Joelinton; Gordon; Isak; Wilson.

On another note; looks like Man City will win the league ahead of Arsenal; now this makes me laugh so much at the rage of Arteta against us in the home match so I am claiming that if City do win the league it is all down to the controversial goal that Anthony Gordon scored LaughLaughLaugh

Newcastle United can announce that five first team players will be leaving the club on the expiration of their contracts this summer.

Departing the Magpies will be long-serving duo Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie, who have made a combined 428 competitive appearances for the club.

Geordie defender Dummett is Newcastle United's longest-serving current player and will depart 23 years after first arriving at the club's Academy.

Officially joining aged nine years old, he emerged through the Magpies' youth system before making his senior debut in January 2013. He has since amassed 213 competitive appearances, scoring on four occasions, and has been a dependable presence in the first team squad for more than a decade.

Ritchie arrived at the club from AFC Bournemouth in July 2016 and, alongside Dummett, played a key role as Rafael Benítez's side won the 2016/17 Championship title before re-establishing itself back in the Premier
League.

The Scotland international has appeared for Newcastle United on 215 occasions during eight years on Tyneside, and has scored 25 goals - the last of which was a vital injury-time equaliser against his former club
Bournemouth in February 2024.

Also leaving United this summer are goalkeeper Loris Karius, defender Kell Watts and midfielder Jeff Hendrick.

Karius joined the Magpies in January 2023 and has made two competitive appearances for the first team, featuring in the 2023 Carabao Cup Final and most recently in a Premier League fixture at Arsenal in February.

Hendrick, meanwhile, moves on four years after joining as a free agent, having made 27 appearances and scored three goals before loan moves to QPR, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.

Like Dummett, Academy graduate Watts brings a long association with Newcastle United to a close. The former Cramlington Juniors youngster first trained with United's Academy aged eight and he too emerged through the club’s talent pathway before making his Premier League debut in 2020.

The 24-year-old has now amassed 100 appearances in the EFL during spells on loan with Stevenage, Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United.

'A huge thank you'

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe said: "I'd like to say a huge thank you to each of the players leaving the club this summer. They have all given so much to the cause in their own ways, and I know our supporters will join me in wishing them every success with the next step in their careers.

"It's easy to judge players by appearances and goals, but the contribution made to the club by Paul and Matt in particular really has been immeasurable over many years. They have had a huge influence on our progress as a team and as a club.

"They have been incredible people and players to work with. Their dedication, professionalism and leadership in the dressing room during my time here has been first class, and they will bring undoubted quality
and experience to their next clubs.

"It's also a significant moment for Kell, who has been with the club since he was eight. Kell is a top professional with an outstanding attitude, and his next club will be incredibly fortunate to have him.

"I wish the players and their families the very best for the future."

'Always welcome at St. James' Park'

Darren Eales, Newcastle United CEO, said: "On behalf of everyone at Newcastle United, I extend my sincere thanks to the players reaching the end of their contracts this summer.

"For Paul and Matt, so many years of consistent service as part of the first team squad is coming to an end and I want to pay tribute to them both for their immense contributions on and off the pitch.

"Paul is one of our Academy's great success stories. He is a shining example to young players in this region, and while Matt came to Newcastle through a different path, he will always be an adopted Geordie.

"Paul, Matt, Loris, Kell and Jeff have been consummate professionals during their time here, and I extend my very best wishes to each of them. They move on knowing they will always be welcome at St. James' Park."

Newcastle United can announce its Academy retained list for the 2024/25 season.

Under-21s trio Jamie Miley, James Huntley and Ellis Stanton have all agreed new contracts, while Nathan Carlyon will be supported by the club throughout his rehabilitation following a long-term injury.

Amadou Diallo and Michael Ndiweni, who made their first-team debuts last season, are among 13 youngsters set for release this summer.

Also departing at Under-21s level are Will Brown, Jude Smith, Jordan Hackett, Matthew Bondswell, Lucas De Bolle, Kyle Crossley, Dylan Stephenson, Shaun Mavididi and Rodrigo Vilca. Under-18s pair Taylor Ross and Carter Milmore complete the list of players leaving the Academy.

Meanwhile, 11 members of the Under-18s squad have agreed their first professional contracts with the club.

Adam Harrison, Aidan Harris, Johnny Emerson, Anthony Munda, Scott Bailey, Sean Neave, Dylan Charlton, Rory Powell, Harry Powell, Josh Donaldson and Darren Palmer are all in line to turn professional this summer.

Academy Director Steve Harper said: “I would like to thank all of the players who are leaving for their efforts throughout their time with the Academy. They have all grown as players and people during their time here and should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved representing Newcastle United.

"All of the players know that the Academy is here to support them as they prepare for the next steps in their careers. I now look forward to following their journeys and we all wish them every success in the future.

"I would also like to congratulate the players who have agreed new contracts. The hard work continues and it gets tougher every year as they look to continue their development, but they should all take great pride in this recognition and use it as motivation for the season ahead."
