city have done v well to get here and get past a psg team who were poor i thought,if cr is fit to play tonight then this step up might be just stretching city,at this level of the competition i think your flaws can be cruelly exposed-waiting on the cr nod to play and if he does then a real m win by a clear margin...

It was a very dull game, Madrid parked the bus the whole match and their best chances were from set pieces, the only way they were going to  score, that or diving, which they did twice in the box looking for a pen.

No way will they sit back in front of their own fans at the Bernebau, they wouldn't allow or accept it, City will either be battered or have a cunning plan to anticipate this and play counter attack, which with De Bruyne and Sterling on the wings could work well.

Normally 0-0 wouldn't be a bad result. Given the circumstances of no Ronaldo and how Real Madrid set up it was.

In a vacuum 0-0 isn't a bad result, but it's still hard to see Man City getting through with this result, and they had a chance to win tonight. This was a big chance for Man City to show what they've got in Europe, and they showed nothing really.
Report enpassant April 26, 2016 10:49 PM BST
MP's response to losing his play-maker (in a 3 man midfield) was to bring on a striker. In one stroke handing the control of central midfield to Real (started that way v Bayern a couple of years earlier and got hammered). City were left with two workhorses in central areas, DK & JN wide. They struggled badly to get the ball to the strikers (SA was having to come deeper and wide to get a touch at all). Resorting to hoofs from back to front they were outplayed for the rest of the game. If MP thought 4 3 3 or if you like 4 5 1 was the way to go why change it so fundamentally after Silva's injury ? Tactically poor. Very fortunate to get 0-0.

Report Rob_The_Bantam April 26, 2016 11:15 PM BST
Difficult to understand the Sterling for Navas sub if City were actually trying to win the match.  Just replacing one very fast player who is unable to pass, cross and shoot with another.

If Sterling, Navas and the likes of Walcott were of average pace, would they make it into a Conference team?
Report wolf3011 April 26, 2016 11:22 PM BST
0-0 is almost always a decent result in a semi final first leg for the home team as Madrid are always going to score in the second leg so city would need a goal anyway. If they took a 1 goal lead, Madrid scoring one in the second leg which they surely will  would mean city have to score again to qualify and if Madrid score as it is now city need to score to qualify so very little difference. The idea that city could take a 1-0 lead to Madrid and defend for 90 minutes keeping a clean sheet is laughable.. city have to score away so little changes and the goal less draw is a decent result all things considered

it was brought in because teams playing away were simply parking as many buses as they could to try and get back home with a 0-0.

now 0-0 away is considered a good result for the home team and a bad result for the away team as there were no away goals.
