try 59.9 million quid with 10 mil euro add ons . its only money
|

Crazy money for a decent footballer. I don't think he's anything special to be honest. That fee if real is crazy. Taught fee's might be on the way down but it seems they are on the way up. Shane Long fee show's its out of control.
|
By:
Does Woodward or any of the United board have the faintest idea what they are doing or do they just lob silly money at anyone with a 'name' ?
|
By:
It seems when players go to spain they get the best on the cheap. When they ship them over english teams play way over the odds. Ozil for example.
|
By:
Why does he want to leave Madrid, they offered him a new contract?! In today's market I actually think he is worth it and just what that lot need.
|
By:
Because he wont get a game. Madrid only offering him a contract so he wont leave next season on a free. Same with kediera. Basically both told sign of u will sit in the stands for the season.
|
By:
Why would he not again? He was outrageously good in the matches I seen him in last season.
|
By:
I'm a united 'fan' (ie was a supporter until life took me away from being able to follow them as much as I did)
But I dunno seems a huge amount for what is ostensibly a Madrid cast off...is he 14m better than Ozil...?? Whilst the numbers are astronomical for a man of my advanced years I'm trying to break it down commercially... Please some whipper snapper break it down into raw stats? Goals? Assists? Wtf is this guy gonna bring to the table for 56m because I'm not seeing it.... |
By:
Di Maria has played 124 times for Real Madrid, winning just about everything possible during that time, and 52 times for world cup runners-up Argentina. He's 26 years old so arguably not reached his peak yet and made the most assists in La Liga next season. It's a lot of money but a safe bet in my opinion (and I'm a City fan
![]() |
By:
*last season (hopefully he doesnt get the most assists next season
![]() |
By:
He's a very good signing (from a complete neutral who watches a lot of Spanish football).
|
By:
Thanks...that'll do lads
![]() I'm getting old...convinced these Latino mincers will be a disaster etc then forget the leagues full of them now ![]() |
By:
I would have been fuming if we had paid 50m for him. He's just not consistent enough. On his day, he can win games, but others, he's just a passenger.
30-35m would have been a far more reasonable figure. They should be getting DM and Khedira for 50m. |
By:
I don't think you can call Di Maria a passenger. Even when he isn't affecting the game in the final third he always puts a shift in. Has a superb engine.
|
By:
He was fantastic in most of the matches I've seen him in for the last 3 seasons, and without doubt would be a great addition for Utd. However regarding the price; last season there were rumours of him and Coentrao leaving for Spurs + £50m for Bale. Also last year and the year before Arsenal were also supposedly interested for £30m. For a player who has;
1- been playing consistently well for 3 seasons 2- but has not improved significantly over that time 3- has only one good to average world cup behind him 4- had only a year left on his contract and was facing a season on the bench £60m (inc add-ons) is far too high and will indeed be a world record for a player in that position. Frankly its stupid money even considering some of this summers transfers and as Utd really need to strengthen in other areas this really would be a massive overpayment for a player they don't really need. That said he may well be brilliant for them but I feel they will still need at least 3 good players added to the first XI to challenge for the top 4. |
By:
My only main worry if I was a united fan is if he is not a bit lightweight for the premier league. You can see someone like Cattermole not breaking too much of a sweat in kicking him into the stands.
|
By:
LOL @ Di Maria being light weight. He's a battle tank who barges his way through players, it's his USP.
Real won the UCL because of him Argentina would have won the WC had he not been injured (maybe) Real lost again Atletico this week because he didn't play....he was ridiculously good in that away fixture last season. I hate Man U....but they're making a good signing here. |
By:
In spain the half decent players look good as they get so much space. In the prem players dont get time to pick a pass. Ozil has struggled. There is no way di maria is a 50m player. I think he is at best a 20-25m pound player. I think arsnal have been robbed buying sanchez who was basically a bench warmer.
|
By:
You've been extremely selective in your examples there anfeild. There was a lad call Torres who didn't do too badly for your mob once upon a time.
|
By:
Di Maria is not worth the money. United are desperate due to their lack of spending over the last few years. Real are mugging you and its great to see.
|
By:
I'm not a Man Utd fan, far from it. I don't have any allegiance when it comes to the Premiership.
|
By:
Has been great for Madrid and its a bit like last season when they unloaded Ozil, who had had the most assists and was a key part of the team. Its will obviously hope he has more of an impact like.
Didn't realise he was in his last year which makes the fee ridiculous. How much would he costs if he had 3 years left. When PSG are backing out you know it's steep. And so, where does he play? Wing back? No.10? Midfield 3? What's the plan Louis? |
By:
any who really belives that di maria is not worth 60 million really doesnt know the world of football as it is now anywere between 50-80 million is were these players sit just have a look around the world what players are going for a player has price and if u want him u buy him look at shane long 12 million he probley isnt close 2 being worth that but football is diffrent these days u have 2 pay a fortune just 2 get average players
|
By:
For 60m you want a game changer. You want the goal scorer etc. Di Maria is a run of the mill player imo.
|
By:
You obviously haven't watched enough of him and/or are blinded by club rivalry bias.
|
By:
i watch ever madrid game has nothing 2 do with bias i belive he is a game changer
|
By:
My reply was to anfeild.
|
By:
The price is irrelevant IMO. Utd are up against it and are going to have to pay over the odds for any decent player. If he is a success, he was worth every single penny for them right now.
I'm unsure though. Clearly a very talented player, but can't help but feel La Liga will suit him much better. |
By:
I have watched him many times. Early last season, though I can't remember the opponents, I thought wow. He had so much energy I actually thought he should be drug tested. United need to add quality and if they have to pay a premium, then so be it. If Van Gaal has identified someone he genuinely feels will do the job he wants, then he has to go for it.
Ask yourself this, is he twice as good as Felleni? Of course he is. |
By:
Do they have any regard for FFP in Manchester?
|
By:
I thought he was poor in the W.C
|
By:
Man u think they are playing football manager with cheats on.
They basically have a top keeper, no defenders or midfield but they have a few decent forwards. ![]() Going to end in tears. Ronaldo sold for 78m, great business ![]() |
By:
ronaldo wanted to go, so what can you do?
|
By:
If he gets Utd back into the Champions League in the next 2 seasons then I presume that would justify the fee, seeing as people on here think Utd will go down the plughole if they don't get back in the top 4 sharpish. As a player he has a great engine, talent and was clearly one of Real's best players last season. He'd have to stop the 'going down injured every 5 minutes' lark though very quickly.
|
By:
Is he a matchwinner though ? Like a Bale or a Suarez or even a Hazard. Seems 20 m overpriced to me.
|
By:
Because man u are trying to buy stars rather than a team, its great to watch a team implode like this.
They are rudderless. They could spend 500m and still not have a 'team' |
By:
He's an excellent player and in pure football terms will be a terrific signing.
The fee is inflated though, especially for a player who would not be first choice, wants to leave and apparently no serious rival bidders. Real can clearly smell Woodward's desperation. |
By:
|
By:
Unless Di Maria can play centre back then its not really the best use of Utd's money. At the back is where they look woefully short of decent players. Don't get me wrong Di Maria is a really good player but you to strengthen where you're weakest and they look poor at the back having not replaced Vidic or Ferdinand.
