For his services to football ?Confused

What services, he won nothing with England, was kicked out of Old Trafford, bought by Madrid to sell shirts and retired to America aged 32, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes would be much more worthy of a knighthood - which is a load of bollox anyway, he should stick to his cockney roots, as should most United fans Laugh

A decent footballer, a likeable fella, but not great, would not make most people's top 50 players of the last 20 years anyway.

He should be made king. If it wasn't for Beckham London would not have won the right to host the Olympix.

Is he the guy who his wife phoned him up at half time during an England match to tell him his hair looked all wrong and so he washed it in the 15 minute interval so he'd look nice for the second half?

This absolutely disgusts me.
They refused to honour Bill Nicholson in this manner Sad

Politicians are, in general, populist sh*theads, who'd sh*g their own grannies if they thought it would get them a few more votes. This is one of the many consequences.

The best thing to do is ignore the honours system, and just know about the person.

It's not like Beckham would become a different person overnight if he was knighted.

In fact it matters less when famous people are unduly honoured than with people who are not well known.

There are probably plenty of people who've been knighted who don't deserve it who you've never heard of, but the problem is that with them, you wouldn't know that they didn't deserve it.

The House of Lords is, of course, a different kettle of fish, and matters greatly.

For services to himself. The most hyped player in the history of football. All the bs about his great free kicks and how many goals for England ?
Report Mr.Angry November 10, 2013 12:59 PM GMT
He's spent countless millions on football coaching centres, donated his wages from PSG to child charities in Paris, and been all-round a good egg and role model.
Report elisjohn November 10, 2013 1:00 PM GMT
would love to know actually how many direct free kicks he did score, I bet not that many.agree the most over hyped footballer ever
Report donny osmond November 10, 2013 1:00 PM GMT

why not make it even more absurd
Report loui November 10, 2013 1:08 PM GMT
he was a very hard working player, with a neat touch. very good would describe his ability, not world class though.

Donation of PSG wages was to avoid paying punitive French taxes.

its about time a footballer was honoured

beckham, murray, mccoy and some welsh rugby player would be a nice tribute to sport
Report judorick November 10, 2013 2:06 PM GMT
ffs you morons

Honours are not awarded on the basis of 'deserve'

they use a set of criteria, google it and you will find a very helpful website that explains it all

ffs Murray won Wimbledon and he won't be getting it

deserve, pfft

With a broken foot too, reducing his team mates to a ten-man team for all games in the tournament.

Only Eriksson would allow his captain to travel to a world cup in such a condition, becks earned his reputed £8m image rights.

Such was his fickle participation in that event he pulled rank on the regular penalty taker, Owen was well worth listening to later.
