Report cob316 December 31, 2012 4:46 PM GMT
What Benitez actually said was: "When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow and compact and at times we were a little bit nervous."

Ferguson confidently states: “Benítez called Everton a small club, which just points to his arrogance," as well as "'Everton are a big club, not a small one which Benitez arrogantly said," (this quote came two years after the original "small club" incident).

Manchester City have constructed a sky-blue billboard with the words "Welcome to Manchester" under a picture of their new signing, Carlos Tevez. Many have read into this as being a subtle dig at United, and Ferguson's response to this was to say: "It's City isn't it? They are a small club with a small mentality, all they can talk about is Manchester United."

Anyway on that front, the major difference is that Paisley took over a club that had won the league, the fa cup and the Uefa cup in the last season or so of him taking over. ie a club in good shape. United were far from that as you know. SAF has built at least four great teams in his time.

Having said all that Paisley was a great manager.

Pete thats why comparisons are hard possibly impossible to make, when I look at some managers who have won thngs in diffeent countries I have a healthy respect for them

times change,a great illustration of this is Ancelotti, comes over here to aforiegn league and does the double first season I think, how long did he last?

slightly different a manager who wins the fa cup and the cl in the same season finds himself out of work ten weeks later

as you pointed out hes built 3/4 title winning teams and a great club and no one doubts his record, also as pointed out further up we will never know what he would have achieved at another club had he been sacked in the first 5 or 6 trophyless years

I think we should just applaud/acknowledge what a great job hes done, but there will always be detractors of anyones career over that period (united fans apart)

The man does not give a damn what the rest of the world think of him and he will continue to be a winner until he keels over on the touchline one day. He is the master of UK football, has been for years and will continue to be so.

There is a load of posts on here that reek of jealousy and I suggest that not one of the seethers would refuse SAF the position of managing whatever club  they support; they can't stop talking about him.

'My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f***ing perch. And you can print that.'

There are a lot of people who think this might be his last season.

As for caring what other people think about him, why should I? He certainly doesn't give a monkeys so why should we.

We don't feel the need to be loved and like him we only care about winning.

Of course I will argue the toss when people misquote or post inaccuracies but if it is just an opinion then everybody has to respect that others are entitled to theirs.

F uck me tommo, you have a good memory Grin Get over it mate, not sure if you have noticed but that happens all the time. We have had that done to us loads of times.

I disagree a lot of what SAF says and does but unlike your club and fans I don't whinge and whine every time we get a bad result.

I am cheesed off SAF hasn't got a midfielder in that we are obviously lacking.

He was wrong to call Newcastle a wee club

His team selections at times border on suicidal

His behaviour on the touchlines is embarrassing at times.

However that is him and I will take all that because of everything else he gives.

I understand we can't have the football genius that makes up Brendan Rodgers so we will have to make do with SAF.
