Gary Anderson has withdrawn from this year’s Premier League ahead of Thursday’s opening night in Newcastle.
Anderson had to miss out on The Masters this past weekend and his back injury seems to be that serious that he will not be involved in the Premier League either. He spoke to the PDC about the announcement; he said that due to the pain he’s in it’s not physically possible to get himself ready.

“I’m sorry to the fans that I won’t be there this year, I’m as gutted as anybody to have to miss out,” said Anderson.

“I’ve really tried to get myself right for the Premier League but it just hasn’t been physically possible because I’m in such pain when I even try and have a little practice and it would risk long term damage if I was to do anything other than rest and undergo treatment at the moment.

“This isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly but I don’t want to let the fans and myself down by putting in performances well below what is expected of me due to my injury.

“My physio has advised me to rest for a few weeks to increase my chances of coming back stronger for the rest of the year and reduce the likelihood of me suffering repeated problems”, Anderson told PDC.tv.

A replacement is yet to be announced; but that will likely be revealed in due course.

I'd imagine these guys will be absolutely seething though:

Ian White
Darren Webster
Joe Cullen
Simon Whitlock

all been overlooked for younger guys. I think especially Durrant getting picked ahead of the likes of Webster and White will make those guys rage

Cooper you've gotta go to the night in Aberdeen. Big John Hendo is headlining the show!

I like this idea though, feels fresh. Premier League can get a bit stale after 4 or 5 weeks

Very sad Anderson won't be competing in this. As for the 9 replacements. Laughable. They should've picked 1 and played as per the norm with 2 dropping out on Judgement night.
