I remember this match like it was yesterday. Managed to get a day off school with a reoccurrence of an imaginary illness to be able to watch it.

The two gentlemen who have made it through to the final are LEIGHTON REES of Wales, who many at the time regarded as the best in the business, and CHARLIE ELLIX, a London-based star player in terrific form. (Not to be confused with Charles Ellis, runner-up in 1972). They will be playing for a mouth-watering £150 first prize.

It's a best of 5 leg floor match to decide the champion. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for a most unusual refereeing incident in the first leg.

Best of order please, Charlie will throw first.
