Ive played rob a few times and have to say he,s great craic but he struggles confidence wise.

When he,s on he can be unplayable but nights like tonight you just know he,s not hitting those important doubles.

Lewis loves to collapse like a cheap tent recently, so the Thorn has always got a chance in this short format.

The last time i played with him he was booked with Baxter to play 8 locals each.

The minute they hit town about 4 ish baxter headed for his hotel but Rob came down to the pub , put his name down and marked his game like anyone else. 

Beaten a few times he put his name back up and marked again,

No airs or graces,

Baxter came into the pub at 10 minutes before his off time and set up his merchandise table played his 8 games and fooked off.

Needless to say Rob was still there drinking away with the locals.

At one stage he was pulling his own pints behind the bar after drinking shorts all night.

He,s still revered around here.

Tbh I'm not even sure he had a change of clothes with him.
I'm friends with the guy who collected them from the airport and it was him who said he dropped Baxter at the hotel and the thorn straight to the pub.

He didn't leave until 3 or 4 am ish.

Other than his exhibition rules playing the 8 games he was just like an ordinary darts guy.
Marked , stayed on the board until beaten then put his name down again to chalk etc.

he's used to playing loads in a day. Taylor, Barneveld, Anderson etc don't like playing more than once a day. MVG is vulernable at the WC because the older players aren't tired

He's also vulnerable to the format. If it was on leg count he'd probably be a cert. Also vulnerable to the odd lucky get, like Barney last year

Ah yes, good point ww. I'd forgotten about that match. That WAS a mighty scare for the green machine. Whatever happened to him, not seen him at all this year (then again, I've not watched EVERY tournament. I know he's only a young dude, but I don't see him in this year's draw, so I guess he didn't make the grade. It would have been good to have seen a rematch!
I still think it would be a crime if MVG didn't win this year (i.e. next year!) He just deserves it so much. The best darts player since Bristow!

To put it in simple terms, he didn't make the grade. The match against MVG was his moment. I doubt he'll do anything in his darts career. I think MVG will feel pressure going into the tournament; the expectation for him to win it this year is enormous. Will he buckle under the pressure?
