Anyone notice there was no handshake between Whitlock & Ronny?
I tried to rewind my tape to see what the initial reception was and I accidentally pressed record so I was unable to check.
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 1:32 PM BST
How do they decide which players face each other?
Certainly looks like the Belgians & Aussies are looking to 'guarantee' a doubles decider as the best players are facing the perceived whipping boys, Ronny & Nicholson.
Report doridoru June 14, 2015 2:00 PM BST
hahah they hated each other! nico blew it at 3-0
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 2:02 PM BST
Nicholson TRULY is utter bollox!
How the fcuk he can consider himself a 'contender' is totally bewildering Shocked

3-0 up, his opponent is somehow managing to play shítter than he is, numerous darts to finish
and he still loses four on the spin - Whitlock must be seething!
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 2:03 PM BST
Please don't someone tell me that Nico or the team hit 1.01 or I'll be gutted - I was too late to check.
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 2:07 PM BST
The team result did hit 1.01 for buttons so I'd assume Nico would've been about 1.03, maybe 1.02 Cry

Nico should give the game up...he's got zero talent!
I was fooled by the superb finishing against Taylor many years ago Blush
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 2:20 PM BST
It's about time Kyle Anderson (as a REAL Aussie) took Nico's place.
Report hfink June 14, 2015 2:28 PM BST
Well that was an entertaining match! Don't think I've ever laughed so much during a darts match. Particularly funny was Whitlock's w@nker sign towards Kim! Laugh
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 2:32 PM BST
I didn't see that mate...what stage was it at because I recorded it.
Report jimmy two times June 14, 2015 2:38 PM BST
gutted i missed that!
Report hfink June 14, 2015 3:07 PM BST
Hi Navel-Gazer, it was during the leg where Kim stood back after every shot when hitting the 140. After the 140, watch the shot of Whitlock: you can see him looking towards Kim, possibly saying something to him, then when he looks away from Kim you can see him make the gesture! (Unless he was just excercising his wrist ready for his next visit of course! Grin)
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 3:22 PM BST
Thanks mate...I'll watch that again later.
PS - fully agree with what Kim said about Nico in the post-match interview...all he didn't say was that Nico was a bellend!
Report hfink June 14, 2015 3:27 PM BST
Yes it's surprising what a bellend he can be during a darts match, but when you think back to that radio commentating stint he did a little while back, he sounded very sensible and likeable, and a very good commentator. Perhaps that's where his future should lie: commentating instead of playing!
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 3:30 PM BST
I'd agree with that...his overall game is quite appalling and he'd be odds against in a match against a couple of dozen players ranked below him - he should do a 'Mardle' and get himself a decent gig.
Report hfink June 14, 2015 3:38 PM BST
You're right there NG. But at least Mardle played some class darts in his time. I also find it hard to watch Nico, whether he's playing bad or not, due to his slow and deliberate style of play (apart from the somethimes amusing antics of course!)
p.s. the gesture was during leg 3 of the match. It was quite quick and easily missed. I hope I haven't misinterpretted it, but I can't think what else he was meant to be!
Report hfink June 14, 2015 3:39 PM BST

Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 3:48 PM BST
It's hard to believe he's consistently shít yet he somehow retains his top 32 position - that is SURE to go soon.
The more I think of it (since you mentioned it) he would be an excellent addition to the comm's box.

His entire attitude as well as his raw ability is in question...he's finished as a player in my opinion - I can't remember the last time he had a half-decent game on TV and managed a 90 average.

He's tried desperately to out-psyche his opponents and all he's done has been to confuse the fcuk out of himself...he's ran out of gimmicks and ability-wise the tank is running on fumes.
Report Navel-Gazer June 14, 2015 4:16 PM BST
The top players can regularly check out in 12 darts and I'd assume that 4 visits to the board is their target.
The second tier are probably more than satisfied with 5 visits (15 darts...especially on their throw) but that's a rarity for the ones like Nico who are odds against to achieve that, hence they're always gonna struggle to make headway in the rankings.

The majority of the players outside the top 16 (up to 100) are capable of 10/15 minute hot streaks (the likes of Painter, Winstanley, Kist, Baxter, Webster for example) even if they do lack consistency but I can't remember seeing a fired-up Nicholson doing anything special for YEARS - he seems totally reliant on his opponent playing even worse than him to get a result.
Report hfink June 14, 2015 4:18 PM BST
Totally agreed there. In a time when even mid-90 averages are now considered 'low' for the very top players, the standard Nico is showing is just too way behind. I think you're spot on that he will soon slip out (probably more like bomb out!) of the top 32.

Yes that's fantastic from Bristow there Jimmy, you can always rely on him to tell it as it is!
Report hfink June 14, 2015 4:23 PM BST
Yes the mind games may have worked a few years ago but the standard is just getting too high nowadays and his limited ability has been exposed. So yep, the comm's box beckons for Nico!

Really enjoyed the World Cup this year - great niggle, quality darts in semis and final.

But why, in such a short format when winning the throw can be so crucial (and has knock on consequences amongst other matches I think - if you start first in the first singles you start second in the second singles and first again in the deciding doubles?) do we not get to see the throw get decided? Was it done backstage, and if so it really shouldn't be.
