Morning folks,

Darts wise I thoroughly enjoyed most of the action yesterday. Punting wise it couldn't have gone any worse but hey ho onwards and upwards and all that. Today sees the afternoon wrap up the last 16 and then this evening we get the first 2 quarter final matches.

Adrian Lewis v Mervyn King:

R2 - Lewis bt Vincent Van Der Voort 4-1
Ave: 103.68
180's: 9
CO%: 46%
HC: 146
Legs played: 20

King bt Ricky Evans 4-2
Ave: 94.81
180's: 6
CO%: 39%
HC: 110
Legs played: 25

Opening match of the afternoon sees 2 time champion Lewis take on The King and I'm looking forward to it enormously. As Silverback kindly pointed out King has actually won their last 9 meetings which is a really surprising stat to me but most of those victories have been on the floor. However it's definitely worth considering if anybody was going to take the short odds about Adie. I personally think he's playing better than when he won his 2 titles and he was excellent in putting VDV to the sword in R2. If Merv is going to win he is going to have to produce as close to his mythical A game as possible. He got a good victory v the youngster Ricky Evans and played pretty well but he needs to improve again to trouble Lewis in my view.  I'm hopeful it won't be a whitewash and if it isn't I think Lewis can cover his max line.

Recommendation: 1pt win Adrian Lewis to hit over 8.5 180's @ 10/11 (365)

James Wade v Devon Petersen:

R2 - Wade bt Andy Smith 4-3
Ave: 91.86
180's: 5
CO%: 56%
HC: 122
Legs played: 33

Petersen bt Justin Pipe 4-1
Ave: 95.18
180's: 3
CO%: 50%
HC: 130
Legs played: 20

Wade survived another 2 match darts against him in his win over Smith and that now makes it 8 in 2 games. He's doing just enough to scrape through and the question is can his luck continue? I was actually surprised by how well Petersen played v Pipe as I had him down as streaky and a 90 average player at best but he averaged 95 over 20 legs and checked out at 50% which is good shooting however you look at it. If he plays like that again he can definitely push Wade who seems to be going through the motions and then finding a bit only when required. As such I'm going to have a pop at Devon on the handicap.

Recommendation: 1pt win Devon Petersen +2.5 sets @ evs (365)

Michael Van Gerwen v Gary Anderson:

R2 - Van Gerwen bt Kevin McDine 4-1
Ave: 96.88
180's: 11
CO%: 37%
HC: 118
Legs played: 20

Anderson bt Brendan Dolan 4-1
Ave: 97.97
180's: 2
CO%: 40%
HC: 119
Legs played: 19

Last game of R3 sees the joint favourite for the title take on the mercurial Subtitles in what could be a belter of a match. Van Gerwen played well in R2 and upped his game after his opponent tried to take the mickey out of his celebration. He's fantastic in full flow and the pace of the game should really suit both players. Anderson has played well in his 2 wins so far but it's really a change as he just doesn't seem to have the same power scoring. The last 18 months have really seen a dip in his 180 hitting and unless he finishes really well I honestly don't think he'll live with MVG's scoring. I really like the Van Gerwen maxes here as he is frightening on the treble once he gets going and he pinged in 11 in 20 legs in his previous match. Really surprised to see the line as low as 7.5 and as such it's worth a decent bet.

Recommendation: 2pts win MVG over 7.5 maxes @ 10/11 (Boils)

Peter Wright v Wes Newton:

R3 - Wright bt Michael Smith 4-3
Ave: 105.07
180's: 7
CO%: 39%
HC: 161
Legs played: 31

Newton bt Robert Thornton 4-1
Ave: 95.51
180's: 6
CO%: 47%
HC: 83
Legs played: 20

First quarter final sees both players try to make it into their first ever semi final at the worlds. I think nobody would disagree that Wright has probably been the best player so far this tourney based on averages and level of performance. I thought he was absolutely tremendous in a great match last night and my only worry here is how much it took out of him cos he looked shattered after the match. As long as he has recovered fully I think he's a worthy favourite to reach the semis though. Newton played well v a disappointing Thornton and he will also be hopeful of a win over a player who he is ranked higher than. However I think he's got it all on v a guy who is easily playing the best darts of his life and is full of confidence. Now we're into the best of 9 it will sort out the men from the boys and I think this has 8 or 9 sets written all over it. In the hope that is the case I'm going to get with the total sets as my bet.

Recommendation: 1pt win Over 7.5 sets @ Evs  (Sky)

Simon Whitlock v Ian White:

R3 - Whitlock bt Kevin Painter 4-0
Ave: 92.96
180's: 5
CO%: 38%
HC: 80
Legs played: 16

White bt Richie Burnett 4-3
Ave: 95.92
180's: 6
CO%: 38
HC: 128
Legs played: 27

Last game of the day and I think this could be a good match. Whitlock is the only player left who has yet to drop a set but he was not exactly pushed against a very average Painter in the win last night. He's scoring well enough but I'm not convinced he can be relied upon to hit the crucial doubles now in a close match. Obviously that theory hasn't been tested yet as he's not been involved in a close one but the history of the last 18 months definitely shows he can crack when it gets close. I've been really impressed with White in his 3 matches and his level has rarely dropped below 95 for the whole tournament. Considering he'd never won a match at the worlds before this year that's quite a turnaround. He never panicked when he went 3-1 down v Burnett and although Richie helped a bit White just continued to hit big scores and hit checks at crucial times. I think White will go close here but unfortunately he's not as big a price as I hoped for. So I'm going back into the total sets market here and will be backing over 7 sets again as I expect a close one.

Recommendation: 1pt win over 7.5 sets @ 6/5 (Sky)

Summary: Really looking forward to today and lots of bets that hopefully might actually win unlike yesterday. As usual I'm sure the crack and banter will be top notch on here and all bets and views are welcome as I'm bound to have missed the value somewhere. Best of luck to all punting and may all your bets be winners!
HH Happy

Totally agree about Peterson v Wade, handicap at evens is a good looking bet. I've done total 180s +13.5 in the MVG match and highest checkout +132.5 in the Lewis game for a nice afternoon session treble. Good luck with your bets all.

Seemingly Wright has averaged over 97 all bar one of his last 8 matches on tv. Does that again tonight he will win I think

I'm also in a bit of a mood as Thornton has came out and said he was still toiling with the flu and thats what contributed to his performance yesterday. Given he said beforehand he felt fine and just a bit tired he's either put us away or is looking for an excuse as to why he played like a drain

Evening sesh will be an anti-climax after this afternoons card.

Should have tried to switch it IMO, but then I suppose that wouldn't be fair on those who have tickets for this afternoon.

I've done a £Whoops single on Wright, 4x£5 trebles and a £10 acca all with sporting:

Lewis Over 8.5 180s @ 17/20
Anderson Over 5.5 180s @ 10/11
Wright -1.5 sets @ 19/20
Whitlock v White - Highest Checkout Over 131.5 @ 4/5

Not my normal kind of selections/stakes, but it's saturday and the darts world champs Grin

Given King's record versus Lewis, isn't the handicap worth a look?

The early start for Lewis could well help to cover the maxes as he gets into his stride. Looking for King to put in a good display here, but not too good.
