Today sees the resolution of the third round and we'll know the quarter finalists by close of play today. Looks a good line up and hopefully there's a couple of decent bets to be had.

John Part v Kevin Painter:
R2 - Part bt Richie Burnett 4-1
Ave: 91.82
180's: 5
Doubles hit: 39%
HC: 76

Painter bt Mark Walsh 4-3
Ave: 93.12
180's: 3
Doubles hit: 40%
HC: 134

Opening match sees an encounter with 2 of the more experienced players on tour. They have some history at the worlds as they've met twice before with the score standing at 1-1. Don't actually have the h2h record to hand but its been pointed out to me that Part holds the upper hand over Painter though which could have an impact. I thought Part played well in R2 and I'm convinced it had something to do with the afternoon session and him not playing in the evening. It might be a good thing for him that he is on first again today as its less time for him to get busy at the bar! Painter is currently riding the crest of a wave due to his Players win and also his good form so far here and you know he fancies another long run at the worlds. He's scoring well and hitting his doubles and its very similar to the year he went all the way to the final. I think this will be a close match but at the prices Part looks just a little on the large side to me and as such I'll be having a small bet on him.

Recommendation: 1pt win John Part @ 6/4 (Totesport)

James Wade v Steve Farmer:
R2 - Wade bt Jelle Klaasen 4-0
Ave: 95.91
180's: 3
Doubles hit: 57%
HC: 54

Farmer bt Kevin Munch 4-2
Ave: 84.89
180's: 3
Doubles hit: 34%
HC: 97

Probably the least exciting match of the day between Wade and Farmer. Wade's doing just enough yet again but he's not really convinced me that he is at his best. He is a great match player though and there's not many you would trust to dig it out more than him when things aren't going according to plan. Farmer has had a good run beating Baxter then Munch but his R2 game was a really low quality match and he has to play much better to trouble Wade this afternoon. Fancy a comfy Wade win but priced accordingly and I can't find a decent bet in this one.

Recommendation: No Bet

Paul Nicholson v Kim Huybrechts:
R2 - Nicholson bt Tabern 4-0
Ave: 97.61
180's: 5
Doubles hit: 38%
HC: 112

Huybrechts bt James Richardson 4-1
Ave: 95.61
180's: 6
Doubles hit: 41%
HC: 100

Last match of the afternoon sees a potentially really good match. Nicholson played really well in R2 and scored heavily whilst not being under a great deal of pressure. He's needing a good run to get in the PL and also to improve his ranking so he's got some added incentive to go deep here. Huybrechts has impressed me again this week and I really like his style and how he doubles. Its obviously his toughest test to date but I think he might be up to going very close. Tossed around a couple of bets such as Kim to have most maxes at 7/4 and him to win at 11/4 but I think the handicap betting with Hills looks way out of line so I'm having a decent bet on that.

Recommendation: 3pt win Kim Huybrechts +2.5 sets @ 8/11 (Hills)

Simon Whitlock v Michael Van Gerwen:
R2 - Whitlock bt Steve Beaton 4-1
Ave: 96.42
180's: 5
Doubles hit: 42%
HC: 100

MVG bt Mervyn King 4-1
Ave: 91.59
180's: 5
Doubles hit: 36%
HC: 158

Opening match of the evening sees the best crippled darts player in the world take on the oldest 22 year old in the game. Whitlock has played really well in both matches to date but lets not kid ourselves that he was under any pressure in either game v Smith or Beaton who both played very poorly. He's scoring well and is full of confidence but I'm curious to see what happens if an opponent pushes him. MVG has really surprised me this tournament as hes definitely showing a lot more consistency and his win over King was terrific considering the fact he was totally outscored for the majority of the match. It would be brilliant to see the guy who looked a world beater at 17 come back as he could be an extremely exciting player for years to come if that was the case. At the prices I'm going to risk a little bit on MVG as I just don't think Whitlock should be as short as 1/4 in this one.

Recommendation: 0.5pts win Michael Van Gerwen @ 11/4 (Hills)

Dave Chisnall v Andy Hamilton:
R2 - Chisnall bt Phil Taylor 4-1
Ave: 99.05
180's: 8
Doubles hit: 45%
HC: 119

Hamilton bt Vincent Van Der Voort 4-3
Ave: 95.69
180's: 8
Doubles hit: 42%
HC: 100

Chisnall has to come down from the elation at beating Taylor in r2 and it will be interesting to see how he copes with it as he's gone through a lot of emotions and hes bound to be tired. The day off probably helped him though and I hope he shows his best in this match. He doubled better than I can remember seeing in that match and if he does that again then Hamilton has a tough night ahead of him. Hamilton dug in well in both matches as they;ve both gone to deciding sets but he is beginning to show some of the form that helped him reach a semi final at the worlds years previously. He's very similar to Chisnall in that he scores heavily but doesn't always double well and its a match I'm really looking forward to. Hamilton looks almost a bit big at 2/1 in this one but the bet I like is the maxes. Chisnall and Hamilton both bang the treble and the fact that they don't hit doubles consistently should hopefully result in a lot of legs and the chance for the mark to get beaten comfortably.

Recommendation: 2pts win over 10.5 maxes @ 10/11 (Hills)

Gary Anderson v Colin Lloyd:
R2 - Anderson bt Devon Petersen 4-2
Ave: 93.61
180's: 11
Doubles hit: 42%
HC: 134

Lloyd bt Scott Rand 4-1
Ave: 90.78
180's: 6
Doubles hit: 38%
HC: 167

Last match of R3 sees the resurgent Colin Lloyd take on the ever frustrating Gary Anderson. Anderson played well in patches v Petersen last night but he was under a lot of pressure from his opponent and dug it out well to come through. He actually doubled well for a change but his scoring seems to be a bit off as its either a max or nothing right now. Lloyd played superb to bt the well fancied Rand and as the regulars know his new belief is down to one word. Bobby George!! Typical Lloyd was that comment but he looks a lot more relaxed and I think this could be a good match as well. I like the max bet again here as Anderson is the best max scorer in the game and Lloyd aint too shabby either at times. Throw in the fact I think this goes 6 or 7 sets and I think the mark is beatable.

Recommendation: 2pts win over 12.5 maxes @ 5/6 (Hills)

Summary: Really good day's action ahead I think and hoping that there are maxes galore in the evening as i fancy the maxes quite strongly in the last 2 matches. i also think Huybrechts is more than capable of pushing Nicholson close and hopefully he does for the sake of my money! All views and opinions as welcome as always from everybody and the best of luck to anybody having a punt today.
