Apologies to Spiller but it doesnt seem like Christmas if I aint on here doing this Grin That time of year again and tomorrow sees the start of the 2012 championships which will be closely followed by the BDO. Hopefully along the way we can have some laughs and tip some winners.

Jamie Caven v Roland Scholten:
Quite an interesting opener which features Jamie Caven who has never showed his best on tv v Roland Scholten who is coming back from some really serious shoulder issues. Caven is a slight fav based on him showing more on the floor in the last 12 months but I just think he is one of these players who is never going to do much under the lights. Scholten used to be dynamite around the treble 20 and if he can still keep any of that ability I think he can become the first outsider to win.

Recommendation: 1pt win Roland Scholten @ 11/8 (Lads)

Paul Barham v Scott Mackenzie:
Prelim match featuring 2 players who I don't know much (if anything) about. Never keen to get involved with these short races so a watching brief for me.

Recommendation: No Bet

Mark Webster v Richie Burnett:
Battle of the welshies here and it contains one of my outright fancies. Always had a soft spot for Webster as I backed him when he won his BDO title and I just think theres something likable about him. Its very rare if ever I can recall him throwing darts away and you get the impression he's a real trier. He often struggles on his doubles but his cover shooting on 19's right now is up there with the best in the world. Burnett has showed a real return to form of late and played well to reach the semi finals in Dublin at the Grand Prix. Could be a battle for Webby but in the end I think he will get through. However at the prices I'm happy to sit and watch with my outright bet in mind.

Recommendation: No Bet

Adrian Lewis v Nigel Heydon:
Defending champ sees Lewis meet with the undertaker Nigel Heydon. Lewis was tremendous in winning this title last year and got better and better as the tournament progressed. However he can be a slow starter and hes not really kicked on from his win as I expected. Heydon is solid but has a very unorthodox throw and I think the pace he plays at might get to Lewis especially if things aint going to plan. Not suggesting that Heydon will win but I don't think it will be a stroll for Adie and I think that the bet is for Nigel to win a set.

Recommendation: 1pt win Nigel Heydon +2.5 sets @ 8/11 (PP)

Wayne Jones v Barcham/MacKenzie:
No prices known until after the prelim match but I'd be surprised if Jones doesnt end up in R2 after this match.

Summary: Couple of small bets on the opening night but nothing too serious really. All views and banter as always will be very welcome and best of luck to anybody who has a punt or follows me on these tips Happy

what a game this has been.  Lewis finally finding the treble on his own throw. 140, 180, 170.  Should be 4-3 lewis - pressure on heydon big time.

If this was Taylor they'd be saying how he'd shown grit and determination. However it's Lewis so he's a fat lazy turd.

Not sure which side of that I'm on, just an observation.

think both players handled the pressure very badly there.  Lewis one to get in the later rounds?  Depends how you see it - Heydon threw it away?  Or performance of a champion to get through a game like that and comeback like he did?

Report Hugh-Mongous December 15, 2011 11:19 PM GMT
Criticism of Heydon is a bit harsh IMV and I think Lori had it right.

Read back through the thread and it was telegraphed early on that The Undertaker would be uncomfortable at some stage.

Lewis dug deeper than many of you think but ultimately is lucky to still be alive!

Next time he licks that gash of that b*tch-wh*re, he's gonna be scraping it off his tongue and keeping some in a jar!
