Happy New Year to all on the darts forum. Hopeful that today could see some belting games and hopefully we can win a few quid along the way Happy

Terry Jenkins v Wes Newton:
R3 Jenkins bt Mark Walsh 4-0
3 dart ave: 99.05
Doubles: 48%
180's: 7
HC: 120

Newton bt Mensur Suljovic 4-0
3 dart ave: 97.34
Doubles: 63.1%
180's: 4
HC: 90

Opening match of the quarters sees an interesting match between Jenkins & Newton. Jenks has been improving round on round in this tournament and I thought he was clinical v Mark Walsh in the last 16. Almost 100 average and nearly 50% on doubles is great shooting and if he can maintain that then he is capable of more wins yet. Newton impressed as well but was never under any real pressure v Suljovic but a 97+ average and 63% doubles is superb. Unfortunately can't find a bet to get stuck into at the outset but given that Jenks never does things easily this might be a really good match for trading as hopefully there will be a lot of swings.
Recommendation: No Bet

Adrian Lewis v Vincent Van Der Voort:
R3 Lewis bt Robert Thornton 4-1
3 dart ave: 101.05
Doubles: 48.3%
180's: 9
HC: 167

VDV bt Simon Whitlock 4-2
3 dart ave: 94.95
Doubles: 28.9%
180's: 6
HC: 96

My one remaining outright hope Lewis takes on one of the surprise packages in Van Der Voort and its a fair bet that this will be the quickest match of the day. Pace will suit both players here and I think that will ensure a really exciting match. Lewis was at his best v Thornton in R3 and posted his first 100+ average in the tournament. For once he didn't panic when losing the 3rd set (as is his want) and I thought he showed real maturity for once. VDV caused the shock of the round in beating last years finalist Whitlock and I think few would argue it was a deserved win. He still looked very nervy at the business end but for spells his scoring was unbelievable including 1 set where he averaged over 120 for the set. Bet I liked the look of originally was the maxes but after crunching some numbers I'm not as confident as I was originally. Based on their maxes so far in the tourney I think to get to 15 which is the lowest line we're going to need 26 legs +. I just have a nagging doubt that VDV might freeze a bit here though and if that happens 15 seems a long way off. However I will be having a small bet as both are undoubtedly capable of banging the maxes in.
Recommendation: 1pt win over 14.5 maxes @ 5/6 (Hills)

Gary Anderson v Ray Barneveld:
R3 Anderson bt Andy Smith 4-0
3 dart ave: 108.39
Doubles: 42.9%
180's: 10
HC: 100

Barney bt Colin Osborne 4-3
3 dart ave: 97.19
Doubles: 35.3%
180's: 9
HC: 156

Easily the game of the day and potentially one of the most eagerly anticipated games of recent times for me. Anderson has been simply sensational so far in his 3 matches and a tourney average of 105+ is unbelievable darts. There's always a nagging doubt in a close match he might choke but if he keeps scoring so heavily then he might take a lot of stopping. I thought Barney got a bit of unfair criticism in his R3 win as he had a nightmare on the doubles but still averaged over 97 and dug out a win. I think 12 months ago he'd have lost to Osborne but he hung in there and played a great deciding set when he needed it. He's also had a very consistent 3 matches as is shown in the fact he has the 2nd highest overall average in the tourney. Anderson looks a worthy favourite but at 1/2 he does look a bit on the short side. I think this has the makings of a 8 or 9 set classic and as such then the 180's looks the way to go. Anderson is averaging a max every 2 legs and Barney is 1 ever 3.33 legs so if this goes over 7 sets then 20+ maxes aint out of the question.
Recommendation: 2pts win over 17.5 maxes @ 4/5 (Hills/Joes)

Phil Taylor v Mark Webster:
R3 Taylor bt Peter Wright 4-1
3 dart ave: 98.07
Doubles: 38.9%
180's: 6
HC: 88

Webster bt Mark Hylton 4-1
3 dart ave: 93.25
Doubles: 40.6%
180's: 3
HC: 156

Final match of the day sees the current champ take on a former BDO champion in an really interesting match. Taylor has had a funny tournament and considering he's only dropped 1 set he hasn't really impressed. In his last match its fair to say at times Peter Wright had him going and thats simply unheard of. If ever people want to take his title then as far as I'm concerned this year is when he is at his most vulnerable. He misses far more doubles when involved in close matches and if you can keep with him he does now give you chances he never used to. Webster was excellent in his first 2 matches but then struggled a bit when putting Mark Hylton away. However he still came through it unscathed and he has the knack of hitting big finishes when he needs them. He's going to have to finish well tonight though to win this match as his doubles are definitely his weakest part of the game. Anybody opposing Phil over the years will have a massive deficit to show for it but at the prices today I can't resist a small bet on Webster tonight.
Recommendation: 0.5pts win Mark Webster @ 9/2 (General)

Summary: Bet of the day has to be over the maxes in the Anderson match but I also like smaller bets on the maxes in the Lewis match and hopefully Webster to open up the draw by knocking out Phil. All views and bets as welcome as always and here's to a prosperous 2011 and a great day's action Happy
