2 from 4 yesterday and a small profit to recommended stakes. Fancy a couple pretty strongly today so fingers crossed the small profit continues Happy

Mark Walsh v Alan Tabern:
R1 Walsh bt Justin Pipe 3-1
3 dart ave: 93.48
Doubles: 37.5%
180's: 3
HC: 115

Tabern bt Richie Burnett 3-2
3 dart ave: 91.14
Doubles: 40%
180's: 5
HC: 112

Opening match sees an interesting match between 2 of the less glamourous players on the circuit. Walsh played ok in his opener and there's no doubt he was affected by his opponent's slow play. This should suit him a lot better as Tabern likes to get on with it. Tabern on the other hand was very poor for 3 sets against Burnett and looked in a bit of trouble before suddenly finding top gear and in the end he won going away. Bet I like here is the maxes as both of these guys are more than capable of smacking the maxes in and I honestly can't see any less than 6 sets here. Could be wrong as yesterday afternoon showed but fingers crossed for a long drawn out battle.
Recommendation: 2pts win over 8.5 maxes @ 5/6 (General)

Wayne Jones v Vincent Van Der Voort:
R1 Jones bt Kirk Shepherd 3-1
3 dart ave: 92.63
Doubles: 34.5%
180's: 2
HC: 116

Van Der Voort bt Preston Ridd 3-0
3 dart ave: 85.85
Doubles: 28%
180's: 4
HC: 81

Fair bet that this game will rattle along at a fair clip as Jones aint slow and VDV is too quick for his own good at times. I thought Jones was his usual reliable self in the win over Shepherd and its very rare on tv these days that he dips below a 90 average and finishes badly. VDV on the other hand could average anything between 80 and 100 on any given day and you just don't know. He was under very litle pressure in his win over the qualifier Ridd but I feel he will need to raise his game as Jones level will not drop. I actually like Jones on the handicap here as I think his overall consistency will be too much for Vince over the long format.
Recommendation: 1pt win Jones -1.5 sets @ 6/5 (SJ)

Terry Jenkins v Steve Brown:
R1 Jenkins bt Joe Cullen 3-2
3 dart ave: 87.11
Doubles: 31%
180's: 5
HC: 97

Brown bt Jelle Klaasen 3-1
3 dart ave: 91.46
Doubles: 35.7%
180's: 5
HC: 96

Final match of the afternoon sees an intriguing battle between the experienced Jenkins and a fine up and coming player. Jenkins played well for 2 sets v Cullen but then totally lost his way and thats the problem a lot of the time for him these days. He seems to lack the consistency for a whole match these days and he has admitted that he doesn't practice as much as he should. Brown on the other hand has all the marks of a very hungry player to me. He looks focused and is definitely intent on rising through the rankings. On R1 form alone he has a better average, finished better and had an overall better manner to him. Throw in the fact he beat Jenkins at the Matchplay in July and I think he is a really good bet to win this match. At a big price as well he may offer value in the 180's match bet but I am content with the match win.
Recommendation: 2pts win Steve Brown @ 3.45 (BF)

Wes Newton v Brendan Dolan:
R1 Newton bt Darin Young 3-0
3 dart ave: 87.95
Doubles: 52.9%
180's: 0
HC: 122

Dolan bt Kevin Painter 3-0
3 dart ave: 96.32
Doubles: 60%
180's: 3
HC: 108

Opening match of the evening sees Wes Newton take on one of the surprise packages of R1 in Dolan. Newton in his opener did all he had to but played an opponent in Young who was for want of a better word dreadful. He did all he had to do but wasn't overly impressive in doing it. 88 ave is ok but if Dolan plays as well as he did v Painter it will have to be improved upon. Dolan has been on the circuit for a while but he produced undoubtedly his best performance in his hammering of Painter in R1. A near 97 average with 60% finishing is not something I thought he had in him and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The question now is can he play to the same level again? Newton is a player I am always keen to oppose at short odds on tv and as far as I am concerned the price of Dolan is just too big.
Recommendation: 1pt win Brendan Dolan @ 11/4 (Slybet)

Simon Whitlock v Denis Ovens:
R1 Whitlock bt Steve Evans 3-0
3 dart ave: 90.41
Doubles: 47.4%
180's: 2
HC: 110

Ovens bt Jyhan Artut 3-1
3 dart ave: 88.87
Doubles: 68.8%
180's: 2
HC: 106

I wasn't that impressed with Whitlock in R1 and I haven't been for a while now. When he first burst onto the PDC scene last year his scroing and finishing were unreal but it was probably unrealistic to expect him to maintain that. Now I think he is going to be a very solid player but might not kick on as expected originally. Ovens was reportedly suffering from a really bad dose of flu in his opener which meant any win was good. I was especially impressed with his finishing but you feel for him to live with Whitlock here he has to finish as well and add 4 or 5 points to his average as well. Not really convinced any value lies here and as such I will simply watch and cheer on our favourite bearded darter Captain Hobo!
Recommendation: No Bet

James Wade v Mensur Suljovic:
R1 Wade bt Antonio Alcinas 3-0
3 dart ave: 91.53
Doubles: 56.3%
180's: 1
HC: 121

Suljovic bt Michael Van Gerwen 3-1
3 dart ave: 91.51
Doubles: ?
180's: 3
HC: 136

Wade was efficient in his win over Alcinas in R1 and openly said he was very nervous after what happened v the same opponent at the World Cup. He never has produced his best at the Worlds and this is a big week for him as I think he definitely has the game to go very close if hes at his best. Suljovic is a favourite of mine as he's done me a few favours at big odds v name players and I think he will definitely force Wade to play well here. I have a small fancy for maxes in this game as Suljovic is one of these guys who mixes a lot of mediocricity with sudden bursts of heavy scoring and if he can nick a set I think the line can get passed.
Recommendation: 1pt win over 8.5 maxes @ Evs (SJ)

Summary: Really sweet on the chances of Brown as well as the maxes in the opening match between Walsh & Tabern. As well as that have some smaller fancies that hopefully prove to be profitable. All views and thoughts much appreciated as always and fingers crossed we can keep one of the best threads on here as lively as ever all day Happy

Best of luck to all punting
HH

Pretty much agree with everything you have posted HH.  I think Jones will deal with VDV without any fuss and Brown and Dolan are definitely overpriced.

Sorry scarecrow :)

I'm good thanks hib, can rarely be bothered with the footy forum but I thought I would check in here now we're getting to the interesting stages of the tournament.

The bad news for you is that I almost totally agree with everything you say! I was really impressed with Brown against Klaasen and think Jenkins has been on the decline for a while now. Am also going for 4-3 both players and over 8.5 maxes in Walsh v Tabern.

How are you doing? Did you see Per Laursen's filthy looking daughter? Webby has ditched the loose looking lady he had on his arm when he won the BDO, I notice.
