Morning all,

Sticking something up now as I'm out all day tomorrow and for bits today so dont know if I will get another chance. Throw in the fact that the forum is generally dead these days and I'm unsure as to what sort of traffic these threads will get now. Here goes anyway :)

Dennis Priestley v Vincent Van Der Voort:
Old Father Time Den turned 60 yesterday and he's opening the tournament against the quickest player around. Den's not shown anything on tv for a while but VDV is incredibly frustrating as he can average anywhere between 75 and 100 from match to match. Throw in the fact that Den's slow pace is going to bother him and this looks like a watching brief early on.
Recommendation: No bet

Colin Osborne v Wayne Jones:
Interesting match here in the fact that I've been disappointed by Osborne's overall performance since reaching his first major final last year. His floor performances have been generally disappointing and I think he hasn't kicked on as expected. Jones is a great floor player who gets a bit of unfair press for never showing it on tv. I think its a tad harsh as he's a 90 average on tv pretty regularly which is by no means shabby but he does have troubles with doubles at times. I think he's got a good chance here of sending the more fancied player packing.
Recommendation: 1pt win Wayne Jones @ 11/8 (General)

Ray Barneveld v Denis Ovens:
3rd match sees forum fave Captain Hobo take on the incredible sulk Raymond. If anybody had said 18 months ago that Ovens would be 2/1 to beat Barney I'd have laughed but its a measure of how much barney is toiling that this is the case. He's never had a good run at this venue, hates the extreme heat and still hasnt stopped fiddling with his equipment. However can I bring myself to back Hobo at shortish odds? Not a chance and I will simply look out my scaffolding sponsorship and cheer him on Laugh
Recommendation: No bet

Ronnie Baxter v Jamie Caven:
Final game of the evening sees my bogey man Baxter take on Jabba Caven who falls into the category of never showing his best on tv. If I back Baxter he plays like an idiot but if I oppose him he plays like Taylor! He does like this venue but at times he just looks like he doesnt really care which annoys me. I'd love to back Caven who is a former world junior champ but until he shows more consistency on stage then its impossible to do. Might be a decent match to trade though if thats your thing.
Recommendation: No bet

Sunday:

Andy Hamilton v Co Stompe:
First game tomorrow sees The Hammer take on The Matchstick in what looks like a fairly decent match. Hamilton has started to play really well again and everybody knows about his power scoring. Stompe is also showing glimpes of his best on the floor and this might be the venue to bring out the best on him. Think this looks like a close match and as such the bet I like is the total 180's. We all know about Hamilton's ability to hit them but Stompe aint shabby either and I can see 17 or 18 legs minimum here. As such I like getting on over 7.5 maxes.
Recommendation: 1.5pts win over 7.5 maxes @ 9/10 (SJ)

Adrian Lewis v Mark Webster:
Game here features 2 of the younger players on tour and I think its a bit closer than the prices suggest. Lewis is a wasted talent as far as I'm concerned and until he loses some weight and starts to really focus on his game then he will continue to underachieve. He is undoubtedly very talented but does he have the will to win that you need? Webster is a former BDO champ and in my opinion is a player who plays better on stage than the floor. He finished 3rd at the world championships and showed some great form for the whole 2 weeks there. I think a small bet on him is the play here as Lewis is capable of anything right now.
Recommendation: 0.5pt win Mark Webster @ 7/4 (Lads)

James Wade v Andy Smith:
Two time champ makes his appearance here v Smith and he should have a routine win in R1. He's had some personal problems including splitting with Chamberlain and it seemed to show early on in the PL. However he did recover to reach the final and he loves this venue as well. Smith is best referred to as a journeyman who holds his ranking pretty well but won't ever be a top 8 player for me. Wade should progress comofrtably here and he will fancy his chances of a decent run in the easier half.
Recommendation: No bet

Alan Tabern v Wes Newton:
Last match of the weekend sees a close match to call. Tabern is a funny player capable of spells of great darts but also capable of utter muck. He's not shown too much last year on tv though and he's up against an in form player in Newton. Problem with Newton is that he seemed to always underperform on tv but he did have a good run at the UK Open and maybe it will lead to an upturn in his performances. If pushed I'd side with Newton but prices aint big enough to make me want to back him.
Recommendation: No bet

Summary: 2 small bets over weekend on a couple of the outsiders and also like the maxes on the Hammer match. Should be a great week of darts with the strongest line up in living memory so here's to some winners and great matches. Happy

All views and thoughts welcome and hopefully the posts will be ok from all the regulars on here

Report happyhibee July 19, 2010 11:50 AM BST
Dreadful. It got off to a great start with 21 in the opening session but then last night saw 35 due to all games going long distances. Got 46 to play with in 8 matches but still got big max hitters in Whitlock and Anderson to come so I aint hopeful
